Chapter 502: Chapter 221 Dark Knight Wayne
"That year, I experienced a crisis in my relationship with Hefei because of faith. She left Lundan and took up a job in Paris..." Austin sank into memories.
"Isn’t it because you messed around outside, which infuriated the teacher and drove her away?" Wayne mocked with a sarcastic tone.
"Do you still want to listen or not!"
"..."
"As a member of the Tulip Family, I was brought up with an education that made me particularly averse to The Church. Faith makes people steadfast, religion makes people foolish, and the faithful are all lunatics," Austin expressed his contempt for faith without mincing his words, then continued, "But they possess the most powerful force in the God-chosen Continent, magic, and only magic can defeat magic. To win back Hefei, I had to gain greater power through faith."
Here, Austin hid certain things, like his lifeforce physique.
Hefei had Dragon Blood, while Austin was just an ordinary Silver Mage with average magical talent and no surprises in his lifetime—he would never advance to Gold.
The years he dated and married Hefei, his frail body was ravaged.
To make his wife happy and to be able to stand up and speak loud, he strived to climb up desperately, broke monopolies again and again, and became a higher-up in the Magic Department thanks to his sharp mind.
Then, using the lavish perks of the higher-ups, or so-called balancing the books, he plundered Magic Tools to enhance himself.
The effects couldn’t be said to be nonexistent; it was more that it hardly mattered. Faced with Dragon Blood, he still had no power to resist.
For others, before the marriage, relatives were obstacles; after the marriage, relatives were saviors. For him, it was different; before and after, relatives were always saviors.
The good news is, the Magic Tools weren’t entirely ineffective. With Austin’s persistent strengthening, his resistance to being struck improved remarkably.
"The most fundamental conflict between Hefei and me is that she is a devout Disciple of the Nature Goddess, while I am a Liberty Mage with no faith to speak of..." Austin paused mid-sentence, he once had a dream to eradicate all beliefs on the God-chosen Continent.
His first target for eradication was the Naturalism Church!
As a capitalist, he knew all too clearly that so-called faith was no different from his sustainable fleecing of the flock.
Capitalist: "If you don’t work hard, how can I get a new car, a new house, or even change the mistress next year?"
Goddess: "If you don’t work hard, how can I dominate the world and bestow upon you infinite glory?"
"Thus, I was targeted by the darkness, or to be accurate, I found a dark legacy in a ruin..." Austin frowned, "The legacy of the Dark Knight, an extremely terrifying power. I was ecstatic, and because of that, I was cursed by the darkness."
"The Knight’s legacy was not meant for me. I should have taken this power out of the ruins and given it to the true God-chosen Knight, then the Goddess would grant me a certain reward. But I forcibly kept Twilight Deadlock with me, and the curse of darkness began to take effect."
Austin recounted his memories, once again skipping over a large portion.
The Dark Goddess saw through Austin’s desires and commended his dream of eradicating all faith, hence, she invited him to a little game.
The game of darkness.
Twilight Deadlock brought Austin eternal suffering, tormenting his body and mind, while the sword bestowed upon him the power of the Dark Knight.
The more pain Austin endured and understood, the stronger the power of the Dark Knight became.
And during this period, he was unable to revert from his Dark Knight transformation.
Only by giving up Twilight Deadlock and finding the true God-chosen Knight, could the curse be lifted.
Austin thought he could endure it, but he couldn’t. Unlike Hefei’s affectionate punches, the pain from darkness was not something he could take—it nearly drove him mad.
"I couldn’t bear the curse of darkness and didn’t want to give up its power, so I had to find another faith to suppress the darkness...," Austin said, spreading his hands and looking at an Ancient Silver Coin, "I found Death, and obtained a Lucky Coin."
"Death and darkness are allies, aren’t they? Why would it help you? Also, about that dark curse you mentioned, as far as I know, there’s no curse on a Knight?" Wayne was skeptical, his Death Knight Vest didn’t come from a legitimate source, so he had no right to comment.
Austin didn’t reply but continued, "The entity I traded with was not the Goddess of Death, but one of Death’s Proxies, the Observer Doom Spider Grew..."
"He is a demigod of Death, the embodiment of Doom, who can manipulate the ethereal luck."
The so-called "rand" is actually gambling. Although Austin’s enterprises never involved casinos, if you look at the first half of his life, every major turning point was a gamble.
"I traded with Grew, and he bestowed luck upon the Ancient Silver Coin, allowing me to acquire good fortune while suppressing the dark curse. That’s why I must always carry this coin with me," Austin said.
"So how do you roll in the sheets? You can only... only play one-handed with Megan?"
Wayne was about to make a sarcastic comment, thought better of it, and instead asked, "So the Ancient Silver Coin you gave me that night was fake, you have two Ancient Silver Coins?"
"That coin was Austin’s Ancient Silver Coin. My own was with Megan at the time. I worried that the Death Knight would take the Ancient Silver Coin, so I swapped them." Austin didn’t hide this detail.
Wayne nodded, "No wonder you were always touching Megan’s butt. The Ancient Silver Coin was in her pocket."
Megan: (눈_눈)
I didn’t touch it all the time, just once.
"What would happen if the Death Knight took the Ancient Silver Coin?"
