Chapter 481: Chapter 214 Dragon Knight
Lando Manor.
Wayne wandered around aimlessly on the lawn outside the small grove after dinner, trying to capture a cutie like Monica or Veronica.
It has to be said, the magic barrier of Lando Manor was still very reliable; the dense fog that enveloped Lundan would detour around here, and one could look up to see a big moon.
The stars were sparse, almost invisible.
The magic barrier could ward off the night fog of Lundan, but only the supernatural kind; it couldn’t repel smog produced by industry. To see the star-filled sky, one would have to go far from Lundan.
While walking, Wayne saw an outstretched hand behind a tree, who then beckoned to him.
Veronica captured.
Wayne happily moved closer, "What a coincidence, Veronica, you’re here too. I’m trying to catch Monica, what about you?"
I’m catching you!
Veronica skillfully grabbed the social trash’s collar and pinned him against the tree, sniffing at the collar.
There’s a scent of perfume!
During dinner, Veronica had smelled an odd scent. With many people around, she hadn’t felt comfortable to inquire; seeing Wayne head towards the grove, she waited here to confront him.
Where’s that perfume from, what were you up to today?
Veronica grew angrier as she thought more about it, glaring at the social trash, ready to speak up.
Then...
Wayne:
Bang!
Veronica, in a fit of anger, punched Wayne in the face, grabbing hold of his collar, "Don’t you play innocent with me. I’ve finished reading your diary in one day."
"I know, a faithful reader."
Wayne covered his nose, pretending to be hurt for a moment, and grimacing, he said, "I wanted to say something during dinner. Seeing you with no appetite, is it because the dishes weren’t to your taste, or is it that time of the month for your relatives?"
"It’s your relatives that are here!"
Veronica followed with another punch. She originally didn’t understand what ’relatives’ meant until she read Wayne’s diary and combined the context to figure out what he was referring to.
"So, the dishes weren’t to your taste?"
"None of the above. During the meal, there was always a strange smell coming from opposite me; it was you, so stinky, it made me lose my appetite," Veronica said coldly.
"No way, it smells good!"
Wayne lowered his head and shrugged his nose, "It’s the perfume from Mona; I asked her out shopping today and bought a lot of things. This bottle of perfume I chose by myself, supposedly it has three layers of scent..."
Bang!
Veronica interrupted with a punch, gritting her teeth, "Who’s asking you about that? As the heir of the Lando Family, you’re always dating frivolous women, tarnishing the family’s image."
"Impossible, Austin has long been bankrupt, the family’s reputation has hit rock bottom, there’s no room to sink further,"
Wayne said with sound reasoning, "Besides, Mona is not a frivolous woman; she’s smart and capable, likely one of the top women out there."
"Who told you that!"
Veronica threw punches one after another, knowing she couldn’t outargue Wayne, she said resentfully, "Exactly because she’s your secretary, you should be distancing yourself from her. Going shopping with her will only lead to rumors, do you understand what I’m saying now?"
"Not quite..."
Wayne almost died laughing inside, his face confused as he said, "Veronica, why so angry? Is it because I didn’t ask you out, and went to Mona instead?"
Veins popped on Veronica’s forehead, her fist raised.
Caught by Wayne.
"Veronica, you’ve misunderstood; my date with Mona was a mission, a necessary step for the sake of the family."
"Ah?!"
Veronica withdrew her fist, crossed her arms, and watched Wayne with a cold laugh, waiting for him to spin the tale further.
"Lundan has been chaotic recently, and I’ve been busy handling it with Austin. You must have noticed. Let me tell you the truth—Lundan has been invaded by devils." Wayne glanced around and whispered in Veronica’s ear.
After he finished, he added, "This is top secret; even Austin didn’t dare tell his teacher, which is you. I wouldn’t mention it to anyone else."
The two were standing so close they could be mistaken for lovers sneaking around in a grove.
Veronica didn’t feel anything amiss; perhaps she was already used to seeing it all, or maybe it was because their sparring involved even closer physical contact. Subconsciously, she felt no need to maintain any distance from Wayne; if she wasn’t worried about soiling her clothes, she would have pinned him down on the grass long ago.
"You’re lying to me again; how can there be so many devils in Lundan?"
Veronica frowned and quickly caught on, "No, wait, if there are devils in Lundan, what does that have to do with your date with Mona?"
"What do you mean ’again’? She’s an undercover agent planted by the Holy See, you get it?" Wayne raised his eyebrows, "We’re both smart people. That’s all I’m going to say; you know enough, just don’t spread the word."
Veronica looked confused, trying to make sense of the cause and effect.
"Devils... Holy See... Royal Family... Tulip Family..."
Wayne explained the series of events and concluded, "Austin is worried that the Heavenly Father’s Court will take this opportunity to invade Windsor in force. He sent me to seduce Mona, to make her devotedly work for me, thereby turning her into a spy that the Lando Family has planted inside the Heavenly Father’s Court. My date with Mona was for the future of the family."
"Impossible, you’re still lying to me!"
Swish!
Wayne pulled out a written agreement, justifying himself, "Megan’s handwriting, Austin’s signature, black on white, none of it’s fake."
Veronica’s mouth hung open in disbelief.
As she reached out to snatch the document, Wayne hurriedly retracted it, "Just look, don’t tear it; where would I find another one? Austin is steeped in darkness, he wouldn’t vouch for me a second time."
Damn trash, how could you do this!
Veronica was at a loss for words, her fists clenched tight, clearly showing her intense anger.
