Chapter 314: Chapter 158 Questioning Austin, Understanding Austin, Becoming Austin_2

This isn’t the point, the point is Veronica berating two pieces of social trash from her high perch, her words flying as quickly as a machine gun.

Wayne was pinned on the sofa, staring at the approaching face, and his mouth fell open.

"???"

A string of question marks floated across Veronica’s forehead. What was this move, the latest expression for admitting wrongdoing?

Wayne shut his mouth. Seeing Veronica’s baffled look, he slowly said, "There’s a scent of dessert, too much sugar intake, but I wouldn’t recommend vigorous exercise after a meal. It’s bad for your health. You should control your diet in the future."

Veronica: (꒪⌓꒪)

Wayne:

"You can be this trashy?"

"Yeah, impressive, right!"

"..."

Bang!

A loud noise.

Wayne shot out the window like a cannonball, skidded along the lawn upon landing.

He lay on his back, touched his face, and realized the big news tonight was about himself.

Bang!

Another loud noise, and shards of glass rained down.

Wayne saw a shadow burst through the window, fast and fierce, hitting the trees deep in the forest with precision.

"Austin, is that you?"

Wayne sat up with his back against the ground, looking cheerfully towards the direction of the grove. Just like flight, Austin went much farther than he did.

Commercial Street, Wayne Detective Agency.

Mona pushed open the office door as usual and saw Wayne in the boss’s chair, surprised. "Boss, you’re actually coming to work?"

"How about that, do I need to report to work to you?" Wayne glanced at Mona as he continued to write furiously.

He was supposed to be learning Faith Magic at Lando Manor now, but Hefei was a bit irritable, and so was Veronica. To be safe, he had put today’s lesson on hold.

In time, when Veronica is ready to face the harsh reality, he can go back and resume the lessons.

Click!

Mona locked the office door from the inside and set up a soundproof barrier to prevent the office assistant, Carrie, from hearing anything from outside.

"Something up?"

Wayne looked up, puzzled. Office, boss, female employee in black stockings—this plotline seemed familiar.

"There’s something I’d like to discuss with you; I just haven’t found the right opportunity before."

Mona walked around the desk to Wayne, following Gunther’s narrative method, she undid the top button of her shirt and sat on Wayne’s lap.

She wrapped her arms around Wayne’s neck, pressing down with her chest, and cooed "Master."

Wayne almost laughed, not because Mona wasn’t attractive, but because without a full skill bar, her attempt to be seductive came across as forced, and the awkwardness added to the humor.

He picked up Mona and placed her on the desk, walked over to the window, and said without any politeness, "Detective Agency regulations: subordinates may not kiss their superiors. Don’t do such boring things in the future."

"I understand."

Mona felt dejected. She had said that the master wouldn’t fall for such tactics, but the Archbishop insisted it would work. Now, she’d been disliked again.

"Come on, what is it? Did the Holy See give you another task?" Wayne waved his hand, gesturing Mona to leave the desk, her sitting posture being too sophisticated, and the plot getting too familiar.

"It’s about the Papal State. The Archbishop passed on the intelligence back to the Papal State, and the Pope has arranged for an Envoy to meet with you."

Mona stepped down from the desk, rebuttoning her collar: "The Archbishop knew you didn’t want to reveal your identity, so he didn’t finalize the time and place for the meeting. Please give an answer when it’s convenient for you."

"I’ve said I’m busy and don’t want to meet with them."

"..."

Mona looked down. The Archbishop had replied the same to the Papal State, but they had said they needed to meet no matter what.

If one request fails, request twice; if twice doesn’t work, try three times. The Holy See and the Angels are not enemies. If the persistence is matched with sufficient sincerity, they are sure to get an affirmative answer eventually.

Wayne, realizing she wasn’t speaking, guessed the other side’s approach—it was like flirting, shamelessly persistent in pursuing Angels.

His eyebrows arched; this might be an opportunity.

Bound by the agreement signed with the Royal Family, the Holy See couldn’t send a Legendary Mage to serve as the Bishop of the Windsor District. Gunther was capable but not outstanding, just a Golden Mage, so it was normal he failed to discover the bug in the Golden Rule Bible.

The Pope’s Envoy was different, however. With seven Reincarnated Angels, the Papal State must have found at least two or three with plenty of experience, surely able to prove he’d been wronged.

Speaking of which, Wayne, though he favored having multiple vests, wasn’t too keen on Angels’ vests.

Unlike the Death Knight’s vest, he would prefer to shake off an Angel’s vest, or if that was not possible, never admit to it.

Reincarnating seven Angels at once surely indicated an important mission. If he dared guess, this power could change the dynamics of the God-chosen Continent.

The Devils from Hell grew increasingly brazen, desperate to manifest in the world of men, even controlling the Death Knight and providing the Sealing Book to steal his Obelisk Stone Tablet.

Linking these two pieces of information, it’s highly probable that the reincarnated Angels came for the Devil.

Broadly speaking, it’s a matter involving the God-chosen Continent, with responsibilities too great for Wayne to bear.

On a smaller scale, it concerned his personal safety: at best, his reputation would be ruined, and at worst, he could end up dead.

Knowing he was a fake Angel yet refusing to confess for some petty benefits was not just foolish, it was ignorant.

Wayne decided to seize this opportunity and sighed, "Alright, your sincerity has moved me. Go back and tell Gunther to contact the Envoy from the Papal State; I’m willing to meet with them."

"Really?"

Mona exclaimed in surprise. The Archbishop had said that to move an Angel, sincerity had to be matched with tangible benefits. She hadn’t even gotten to the benefits part, and yet the stance here had changed?
