Chapter 279: Chapter 146: The Lost Relics, Buried History_3
With the addition of the curse of Death, this would be foolproof!
"The rest of you, follow me..."
Sebastian gazed towards the distant Obelisk, marveling that the Divine Decree conveyed by the Death Knight was indeed true, the corners of his mouth curving into a slight smile, "The lost relics, buried history, all things of the past must eventually return to the embrace of Death. Isn’t this a kind of fate?"
————
The white skull cackled eerily as two Black Crows flew out from its eye sockets, heading straight for Wayne and Mona, hidden deep within the ruins.
The buildings within the ruins were unusually tall. As Wayne climbed a high wall, he could see the curse descending from the sky.
The Goddess of Death reigned supreme, three beings who held divine power since the age of gods, governing the Divine Nation for the Goddess, and the curse of Death was generally divided into three kinds.
Wayne had the misfortune of tasting Observer Grew’s curse once, his condition not severe. The truly unlucky ones were Verily and Chris, the former changed in nature, and the latter not only changed in nature but also in species.
The Observer’s curse did not kill Wayne or anyone else, which had much to do with the Observer’s character. He wouldn’t kill his targets directly with a curse, preferring to let them crumble from agony.
Thus, Observer Grew was also known as the Doom Spider.
In contrast, the Judge Sine didn’t have so many gimmicks. The Spirit-eating Crows sounded malign, straightforward and lethal, striking to kill.
If one must identify a distinction, it’s merely the difference between dying instantly and dying slowly in agony.
Mona climbed the high wall, looking at the incoming crows with great horror, and forcefully deployed Holy Light Magic for defense.
This was her last thought!
Wayne didn’t stop her, quietly waiting for Mona to push aside a Holy Light Wall.
The eerie cawing grew closer. Two Black Crows, one after the other, penetrated the sanctified light and shadow, their momentum suddenly slowing.
Following that, one crow flapped its wings and flew out, eyes blazing red, and plunged directly into Wayne’s chest.
"Ah! I’m dying!"
Wayne let out a soft cry, his face a shade of impending doom.
Mona collapsed to the ground, dizzy and trembling, biting down on her lip, using the pain to avoid passing out on the spot.
With no time to worry about Wayne’s condition, the second crow flew out and with its wings drawn in, it hurtled towards her.
Mona, helpless, simply closed her eyes tight.
Three seconds later, she slowly opened her eyes, astonished at the figure standing before her.
"Wayne, are you alright?"
Although she didn’t understand how Wayne managed to draw the curse away, being struck twice by the Spirit-eating Crow meant the effects of the curse were far from the simple sum of one plus one.
The upright figure swayed slightly, a voice weak from enduring pain spoke, "I’m fine, the important thing is you. Go to sleep if you’re tired, don’t overdo it."
Wayne was more than fine; he was exceptionally well. The crow entering his body felt like returning to its nest, realizing the mistake, it reconciled on the spot.
And it sent a snack to The Book of Greed.
The amount was small, but better than nothing.
Wayne urged Mona to lie down quickly. There were many opponents opposite them, and he was eager to transform and take charge.
Mona resisted, mustering her tired thoughts to stand up from the ground, her legs weak and trembling, only holding onto Wayne’s sleeve to keep from falling, "I still have a bit of thought left, let’s see if I can transfer the curse. If it’s you, you’ll definitely be able to escape."
Wayne was shocked by her sacrificial spirit, ready to face death; she was dazzling, and he felt somewhat ashamed.
On the bright side, at least his feeling was right.
"Go to sleep, maybe when you wake up it will be all right." Wayne spoke gently, raising his hand to touch Mona’s face.
The sweet scent of flowers wafted through the air, Mona’s eyelids grew heavy, gasping for breath, she nearly lost consciousness, gripping Wayne’s collar fiercely, "This might be a long sleep. Tell me, are you... are you Bruce?"
"A name I’ve never heard of. You’ve mistaken me for someone else."
Wayne pinched the back of Mona’s neck and gently placed her limp body on the ground. After a moment’s thought, finding it inappropriate, he picked her up in his arms, leaped out of the giant’s window-like entrance and into the room.
Wayne laid Mona down on the ground and conjured four earthen walls with a wave of his hand, ensuring she wouldn’t be affected by the fight, before finally turning his attention toward the Obelisk.
"The hunt begins!"
