Chapter 206: Chapter 120 The Devil Really Has Something_2
"They’re just some small bugs; I can beat them myself. Why must I cooperate with you?" Wayne scoffed disdainfully, his skeletal face etched with arrogance.
"A knight may fear nothing, but the followers of death are too fragile. With this as a breach, the splendor of the Goddess of Death can never spread," the Thousand-Eyed Demon reasoned with facts and logic.
Thousand-Eyed Demon spoke in a matter-of-fact way, "As with Lundan now, the reputation of death has improved, but how long can the faithful endure? Knights alone cannot break the cage; you need an ally."
Wayne was silent for a long moment before finally saying, "Tell me your plan."
Hooked!
The Thousand-Eyed Demon smiled. Every life harbors desires, be it humans, God-chosen Knights, or even devils. Before arriving, he knew that an agreement was certain.
Otherwise, the Death Knight would not have bothered to meet him at all.
"Seeing the magic creation of the knight, you must have realized that the mist of Lundan can give rise to magical beings," the Thousand-Eyed Demon said.
"Quietly accumulating power won’t overturn the cage forged by the Life Alliance. Only by forming an army of magical beings is there a chance, and I happen to have mastered this power," the Thousand-Eyed Demon claimed.
"It’s you who have mastered it, not I."
"Knight, there should be a basic trust between allies!"
"Yes, but the Devil is not worthy of trust."
"..."
The Thousand-Eyed Demon felt helpless, the reputation of Hell being so poor. The Devil had no credit to overdraw; nine out of ten descents ended in failure, ultimately because of a lack of trust causing insurrection.
"Fine!"
It seemed the Thousand-Eyed Demon had made up his mind and said slowly, "I will let you know the exact location of the Magic Array and share half the command with you. You provide the manpower, I provide the people; until the army is assembled, I need you to withstand the Heavenly Father’s Court."
"And you, what will you be doing?" Wayne sensed that this was the critical point.
"I will choose a new vessel from among the believers!"
The Thousand-Eyed Demon offered his answer, truthful, though only half so.
"How long will it take?"
"Not long. It won’t take much time."
...
The scene shifts as the Thousand-Eyed Demon brings the Death Knight to the Underground Lair.
It was an abandoned and silent ancient city, its architecture very similar to Ancient Rome, as Wayne recalled—enormous, majestic, spectacular, employing many rounded arch structures and decorative columns.
The origin of the ancient city was unknown, quietly lying beneath Lundan, reachable only through an abandoned subway platform.
Wayne wasn’t certain of the city’s origins, suspecting it had something to do with the Thousand-Eyed Demon. The city emerged after the Thousand-Eyed Demon’s arrival in Lundan.
Whether it was Ah Bo, Ah Bin, or Yuliya, including Wayne himself, who liked to haunt sewers and subway tunnels, they had never discovered this virgin territory at the end of the sewers.
Moreover, after centuries of meticulous work in Lundan, no church had found it—only for the Thousand-Eyed Demon to discover it upon arrival.
The Devil indeed had something up his sleeve!
The Thousand-Eyed Demon led Wayne to an ancient Colosseum-like structure, with a vast plaza and stepped spectator seats all around, the outer walls reaching about a hundred meters high.
In the empty Colosseum, fierce shouts and roars echoed intermittently, contrasting starkly with the completely deserted spectator seats.
Wayne saw dried bloodstains in the Colosseum, the long-dried blood soaking into the boulders, leaving behind a thick layer of black stains.
The Colosseum seemed to have been in use until recently.
Wayne noted these details silently, his demeanor outside as if unimpressed, as though he could achieve the same.
The Thousand-Eyed Demon paid no heed to the Death Knight’s changing expression, after all, it was just a skull, bereft of skin, let alone expressions.
In the Colosseum, the Thousand-Eyed Demon had already set up the Magic Array, with intricate arrays arranged in midair, opening spatial channels and drawing the night mist of Lundan to this place. The symbol of Hell, the Inverted Pentagram, lay across the center, atop which were beasts of strange and grotesque forms, barely recognizable through the Underworld manipulations of the Thousand-Eyed Demon.
In front of the Magic Array on an altar lay a Black Crystal Ball, its interior swirling with dark undercurrents, contorting into twisted faces.
"Knight, by instilling your thoughts into it, you will be able to command these magical beings."
"..."
Wayne didn’t move; the same old story—the words of the Devil are less reliable than his diary, no chance he’s leaving his mind behind.
The Thousand-Eyed Demon shrugged, take it or leave it, the offer made with sincerity. If the Death Knight wouldn’t accept, it was no longer his concern.
Wayne dismounted the Undead Warhorse, which lept into the portal. When it returned, it held Ah Bo, the water sprite, in its mouth.
"Ah Bo, inject your thoughts into the crystal ball and control the army in my stead," Wayne commanded coldly.
"..." x2
The Thousand-Eyed Demon shook its head repeatedly. Its ally’s mistrust was evident, lacking even the most basic respect. If it weren’t for needing cannon fodder, it would have kicked such an ally to the curb long ago.
Ah Bo was totally baffled. The crystal ball seemed unsafe, and injecting thoughts into it—what if a new master emerged...
At that thought, Ah Bo realized he was overthinking it. It was precisely because it was unsafe that his master had pushed him forward.
Being a lackey was so tough, not even death brought peace!
Ah Bo, full of complaints, dared not defy his master’s orders. He raised his hand to the crystal ball and poured his thoughts into it.
"From today on, you must stay here during the day. In the evening, you’ll only have half an hour to bathe. If you detect anything unusual, notify me immediately."
Wayne issued orders to Ah Bo, then turned to the Thousand-Eyed Demon, "If you need anything, you can tell Ah Bo. He’ll contact me."
The Thousand-Eyed Demon showed displeasure. Allies should be equals. With the Death Knight’s actions, it was reduced to working for the other side.
Laughable. The last Death Knight who toyed with a devil in this way had its head turned into a plaything!
As a mature devil, the Thousand-Eyed Demon just smiled and said nothing until Wayne rode off on his warhorse. Then it slowly turned to look at Ah Bo.
"Young man, your master isn’t so kind to you, is he?"
None of your business. I’m happy as I am!
Ah Bo refused to communicate with the devil, not even making eye contact, and went to a corner of the Colosseum to sit down at a random spot.
The Thousand-Eyed Demon didn’t pester him further. Introducing Ah Bo to a new job was more of a professional habit, a means to irritate the Death Knight, with no real intention of poaching Ah Bo.
In its plan, only the Death and Dark Knights were worthy of becoming cannon fodder.
Unfortunately, the Dark Knight was elusive, and the followers of the Dark Goddess couldn’t contact him, making it impossible to assemble a dream cannon fodder squad with both knights.
The Thousand-Eyed Demon looked towards the ancient city’s dome, its eyes flashing with darkness, as it sealed the passage connecting to the outside world.
Now that was solid!

At Wayne Manor, in the study.
Wayne sat at his desk, scribbling on paper, marking locations in the underground ancient city while listing out the intelligence gathered that day.
He frowned at the information before him. Devil’s tales were not to be trusted lightly. The Thousand-Eyed Demon was too easygoing, not complaining even after being humiliated, which could only mean it had grand schemes for which it was willing to lower its stance.
Wayne closed his eyes, "Its goal isn’t the Heavenly Father’s Court. Creating magical beings through mists is just a means, maybe even a smokescreen to distract..."
"Damn, if only I could find its true form."
Wayne opened his eyes and looked out the window, recalling Keith’s face. This detective was likely from the Heavenly Father’s Court. If he were to pass the information of the Thousand-Eyed Demon reaching Lundan to them, the Heavenly Father’s Court might have a way to deal with it.
"No, not now, at least. The Thousand-Eyed Demon would suspect me, and if the clue is cut off, it would be even more difficult to find him again."
Wayne shook his head. Referring to Bishop Keith, the Holy See was unreliable. A hasty action would surely startle the snake.
"But the intelligence must be sent out. There’s no reason that I alone should silently guard Lundan while they revel and carouse night after night..."
Wayne massaged his temples, pondering how to make the Heavenly Father’s Court accidentally discover the underground city. This had to be handled with care.
A moment later, Wayne thought of someone else.
Detetctive Mona!
Mona had joined the Wayne Detective Agency through Keith’s introduction, with unclear motives, possibly from the Heavenly Father’s Court.
The pet disappearance case Wesley was handling had gone nowhere. If Wayne were to transfer the case to Mona, and if she just happened to find the underground ancient city and then reported it to the Church authorities...
"That’s feasible, but I must test her first to see if she really is from the Heavenly Father’s Court."
Wayne pondered for a moment, feeling enthused, and pulled open the drawer, laying out several treasures before him.
The Bible, the Death Gloves, the Dark Ring—these could all come in handy.
"Yes, there’s also this!"
A flash of blood crossed Wayne’s eyes as he drew the Blood Crystal Sword, "A devil’s follower stalking a nun from the Heavenly Father’s Court, holding her captive in the sewers, using all means just to make her fall from grace—such a motive is reasonable, just like they portray in movies. This could work."
