Chapter 166: Chapter 105: The Goddess is Somewhat Careless_2
The existence of the Valkyrie is difficult to describe, visible but intangible, yet when she donned her armor, he could feel her very real presence.
Under these circumstances, outsiders couldn’t see the Valkyrie; to Wayne, it was as if he were sitting in a cockpit, with the elegant knightly big sister’s spirit pressing close against his back.
Out of curiosity, he wondered if the big sister was clothed.
The Valkyrie glanced at Wayne and then at Ah Xue; the former was the God-chosen Knight’s heir, and the latter was a Divine Envoy. Faced with choosing one over the other, she decided to trust her own eyes.
Inside Wayne, the Valkyrie could feel an extremely pure light, small but vigorous and full of limitless potential—absolute faith that even she felt inferior to.
So, what you see is what you get, and Wayne was right.
Also, the Divine Envoy was too weak, and the image differed significantly from what she remembered.
The Valkyrie grabbed Wayne’s hand, the Knight’s Sword slowly lifted, hovering at the Owl’s neck.
Speak, what exactly are you? If you don’t tell the truth today, you’ll bleed from the throat!
Ah Xue was terrified, internally condemning the fallen knight, manipulated by the Death Knight and even raising a butcher’s knife against her own kind.
"Why use a Knight’s Sword to kill a chicken when there’s a perfectly good knife in the kitchen?"
Wayne stopped the Valkyrie, reminding her that a knight shouldn’t be too extreme. Then he sneered at Ah Xue, "True to the Goddess of Death’s undercover agent, you really aren’t afraid of death. Alright, keep it up, and let’s see just how tough you can be when cooked!"
Having said that, he strode towards the kitchen.
After fifty paces, Ah Xue was no longer so tough, cooing and begging the Valkyrie for mercy, explaining the reason behind its drastic change in appearance.
Once, it too was a majestic and powerful lion, walking among humans to deliver the Goddess’s Divine Decrees. Due to a grave mistake and punishment, it was sealed by the Proxy and turned into an Owl.
The sentence was one hundred years, and it had already served nearly fifty.
The Valkyrie nodded; the excuse was not unacceptable, but misidentifying Wayne as a Blasphemer was a mistake on the part of the Divine Envoy.
No, he really is the Death Knight!
Ah Xue was nearly frantic, unable to understand why the Death Knight could gain the favor of the Sun Goddess and at a loss to explain why Wayne could take off the Death Armor at night and don the Sun Armor by day. Faced with irrefutable evidence, all it could do was reluctantly admit its mistake.
It was blind!
Wayne was not satisfied with this apology. Ah Xue knew too much; keeping it around was not very useful and was ultimately a risk. To be safe, a new dish must be added tonight.
This time, the Valkyrie disagreed. Both the God-chosen Knight and the Divine Envoy fought for the Goddess. They could sit down and resolve their differences amicably without resorting to a fight to the death.
It’s just a misunderstanding. Divine Envoy, apologize and let’s put this behind us.
"..."x2
Staring with big eyes at small eyes!
Ah Xue didn’t want to apologize to the Death Knight, and Wayne thought keeping it was a disaster. But with the former scare of death and the latter unable to resist the big sister’s influence, one was forced to apologize, and the other reluctantly accepted.
The Valkyrie knew nothing about it, only that a Divine Envoy had appeared by the side of the heir to the God-chosen Knight, and it was all arranged by the Goddess. She instructed the Divine Envoy to make contact with the local Church as soon as possible to formalize Wayne’s knightly status.
You want me to be your guide?
Impossible, not even if there’s no door!
Ah Xue’s eyes widened. To personally lead the Death Knight inside, if discovered, would surely cost it its life.
Good news: it no longer had to serve fifty years in prison.
Bad news: direct execution.
"Makes sense, what are you waiting for? Hurry up and contact The Church. The gym isn’t far from here; remember to be quick about it."
A corner of Wayne’s mouth curled upward. With the Valkyrie watching over, and given Ah Xue’s special identity as a Divine Envoy, directly killing it was a risk.
Not killing it felt wrong, but killing it was even worse. So, he decided to keep it as a dog.
"We’re both in this together; if I go down, you’re on a dead-end street as well. Put up a good front and cover my back well in the future, and you won’t miss out on your share of the spoils."
Ah Xue was unwilling. To it, either option meant death, but it wished to stay loyal to the Sun Goddess and refused to serve as a guide no matter what.
It had some backbone, but fate had other plans. Another guide had led the muscle coaches from the gym over.
...
Outside Wayne Manor, the high gates of the courtyard stood tall.
Verily rang the doorbell.
Led by Dick, more than ten coaches stood in a line, each wearing a white tank top and shorts, muscles bulging under the fabric.
A sight to behold, indeed, as a passing couple couldn’t keep their legs together, intentionally slowing their pace and breathing a bit more heavily.
Verily was but a curse away from blending into the scenery.
The gates opened, and the lot of them made their way in.
Upon returning home, Verily immediately reported the Dragonheart Island knight’s situation to Dick, who was greatly surprised. Without a second thought, the gym closed down, and he rounded up a bunch of his followers and paid a visit.
His visit had two purposes.
One was to flex muscles, warning a certain pretty boy to think before acting rashly; Verily might not have parents, but she certainly wasn’t lacking in uncles.
Second was to retrieve the knight.
He was confident about the first objective, but not so sure about the second.
He didn’t have complete confidence.
First, the Divine Envoy and Wayne left, and then Kennedy and Wayne unexpectedly met—too many coincidences to be coincidental, and such continuous coincidences couldn’t be accidental; it was all guided and arranged by the Goddess.
However, Wayne was not a devotee of the Goddess; he had joined the Naturalism Church and had even been taken in as a student due to his impressive talent by the High Priest.
Dick didn’t quite understand what the standards were for the Goddess’s choice of knights. Why ignore her own devout Disciples and have to seize someone else’s? It was just too, too...
