Chapter 126: Chapter 89: This World Has Ultimately Changed
"Teacher, what are you doing?"
In the third-floor bedroom, Wayne watched Sidney with no words, as the latter inspected the sheets and pillows with a magnifying glass, serious and focused, as if she could truly find something.
Veronica hadn’t returned all of last night, and it went without saying what Sidney was looking for.
Golden long hair, or perhaps golden curls.
Of course, there might only be golden long hair.
Wayne suggested that the other party was overthinking it. Setting aside that nothing at all happened last night, even if something had, the butler would have already cleaned up the crime scene.
A moment later, Sidney put away the magnifying glass with a face full of disappointment and gave Wayne a sympathetic look.
And shook her head.
At your age, to not have any worldly desires is unusual; don’t be embarrassed—if it doesn’t work out, we can go to the hospital to check. It won’t cost much.
Wayne rolled his eyes and pushed Sidney out of the bedroom.
Whether from a mother’s standpoint or as a teacher, you’re an elder; can’t you be more reliable?
The two of them went to the living room where Butler Philark offered them red tea. He seemed to have made a decision and addressed Sidney with the title ’Lady.’
Sidney didn’t notice the change in the title, after all, in this house, Wayne was the only master; calling her Lady could confuse the matter of the identity.
Wayne caught on and was greatly pleased, giving Philark a warm look.
"Wayne, how do you like your new home?"
"It’s great. I studied the blueprints last night and gained a lot. I even learned many new things," Wayne knew what Sidney was hinting at, and he replied truthfully.
"Do we need to add more helpers? This house is very large, and it needs to be cared for from top to bottom. I’m afraid four maids might be overwhelmed."
"No need—I don’t like having too many people around."
Wayne shook his head; he liked this house a lot, and he was familiar with the butler and maids. Adding a few unfamiliar faces would make him uncomfortable.
Sidney didn’t dwell on the topic but asked about the student’s meditation condition and if Schrödinger had been bothering him with calls lately.
"The Essence of Life is already filled, but there’s still some time before the Hexagram can be lit. I’m working hard on it."
Wayne looked troubled; cheating was indeed exciting, but when you cheat too much, the side effects are very clear. Every time he leveled up, he had to use more of the Four Elements than other mages.
The Sydney family’s basement also had a Magic Array that gathered the Four Elements, and at night, the forest defense could block the fog, making all conditions favorable for meditation.
But as the saying goes, satisfying The Book of Greed is not so simple.
Wayne had tasted the sweetness of being the transport team leader; it’s hard to go from luxury to frugality, and the slow progress couldn’t cheer him up.
He was puzzled; Dean Plank was clearly a stubborn old man, not one to give up, so why hadn’t he come after him even after so long?
Could it be that the old geezer had seen through him, knowing that he would take advantage of the situation to demand a higher price and had been stalling, waiting for him to capitulate?
Alas, there wasn’t a trace of honesty and integrity in dealing with others; indeed, the world had changed.
The bad guys had grown old!
"Don’t rush or put too much pressure on yourself. Being able to fill up the Essence of Life in such a short time shows that you’ve worked very hard. Just keep it up," Sidney took out an application form and guided Wayne to fill it out line by line.
The application for joining the Naturalism Church—upon approval, Wayne would stand out among the congregation and officially become a Disciple of the Nature Goddess.
Wayne followed his teacher’s instructions to fill out the form, indicating ’detective’ in the volunteer section, not planning to join the Lundan Headquarters to become a public servant.
Sidney didn’t insist. With Wayne’s talent and his pure Magic Power, there was no need to waste time on a public servant’s position; his future achievements would surely be higher.
For instance...
Saint Heir!
Sidney had not become the Holy Maiden back in the day—she didn’t mention it, but she felt a bit of regret in her heart.
Luckily, the Goddess had not treated her poorly. Before the new round of Holy Maiden/Heir assessments started, a student with exceptional talent was bestowed upon her.
As the Regional High Priest, she could fully represent Windsor to recommend candidates. Given Wayne’s talent, registration would mean a surefire massacre.
"Hehehe..."x2
Sidney covered her mouth and snickered, and realizing she was snickering in unison, she raised an eyebrow at Wayne: "What are you laughing at?"
"I don’t know, but since the teacher is laughing, as a student, I can’t but laugh." Wayne shrugged his shoulders, aiming to be obedient.
Sidney nodded repeatedly; the kid was just charming, a thousand times better than that someone.
Speaking of that someone, Sidney suddenly thought of something. She stood up and lifted the hem of her skirt, revealing legs covered in black stockings: "What do you think? If I wore a short skirt to go shopping, how would it look?"
There would surely be countless who’d be hard-pressed to resist!
Wayne mentally gave a response, glanced twice, then averted his gaze: nice legs, and they matched with the stockings well, but this was not for him to admire; some people talking about going shopping probably meant roaming their own living room.
"Why aren’t you saying anything? Don’t they look good?" Sidney frowned.
"They look so good that I forgot to speak."
"What a sweet talker."
Sidney let go of her skirt and vividly started talking about the day’s events at The Church. She inadvertently lifted her leg once, and Flora was totally entranced by it.
The latter was ritually distracted, opening her mouth several times as if she wanted to ask something but ultimately was too shy to speak and left the office feeling frustrated.
A massacre!
Flora was someone Wayne did not know or intend to pay attention to, only aware she was a Priest who parachuted in. From his teacher’s hints, Wayne could catch a whiff of that high-molecular-weight polymer scent typical among good sisters.
