Chapter 1214: Chapter 415: New Version, The Death Holy Maiden Arrives First_2
Beside Wayne, Hexuno’s figure emerged.
The Archangel was curious about the reason for the Death Holy Maiden’s visit. Hexuno and Mona’s memories overlapped, leaving Wayne with no secrets except The Book of Greed in front of her.
She didn’t keep it from her this time; if Hexuno wanted to listen, Wayne gave her a front-row seat.
Of course, Hexuno wasn’t Mona; Mona could sit in the front row without paying any price, but Hexuno couldn’t – she had to write two IOUs to get the ticket.
The Archangel had already seen through it all; after the breakthrough zero, she cared less and less about such matters.
On the other side, Sukra didn’t notice an additional presence in Wayne’s Life Force Field, and got straight to the point: "Wayne, you can’t appear in Paris now. The former Death Knight Rone will sense your presence, and he will come looking for you to retrieve Shadowmare."
"Just as a reminder, it’s the Headless Knight, no, Headless Infantry."
"???"
Confused, Sukra recalled Rone’s current situation, surprised, "You have met him, you know his head is missing?"
"Met him once, but Yuliya mentioned his condition before that."
Wayne stroked his chin. It was the first time he had heard the Headless Knight’s name was Rone.
The age of the Headless Knight was a matter of speculation; this old bone was the longest-lived amongst the five God’s Chosen. So much so, that Death Knight had become a name rather than a codename, not even Mula, Leo, or Dreyne knew his real name.
Neither did Yuliya. According to her, the poor guy had forgotten what he used to be called, choosing to live by the name Death Knight.
Rone didn’t tell Yuliya his name; he either deliberately concealed it or truly forgot.
Who is Yuliya?
The cheerful little mare, beloved by both Wayne and Rone; Wayne would bet that if Yuliya asked, Rone would willingly let her ride him.
So, there was only one truth: Rone’s mind was so vacantly content that he truly forgot his own name.
If he himself had forgotten, yet the Death Holy Maiden remembered it clearly...
Information must be 80% from the Goddess of Death.
Brilliant!
The Goddess of Death, as envisioned by Wayne, with fair skin, striking looks, an elegant demeanor, long black hair, black stockings, and black high-heels with a red sole, finally made her entrance.
"Wayne, when and where did you meet Rone?" asked Sukra anxiously.
"In Windsor, at the ruins of the Storm and Thunder God; he was manipulated by the Devil Alliance, lost his head, and was coerced into serving Hell..."
As Wayne recounted the situation at that time, he winked at Hexuno beside him, it was all a twisted fate; Mona had concluded he was the Reincarnated Angel on that very night.
And then it was given for free.
It was a buy-one-get-one-free deal.
Hexuno didn’t want to talk to Wayne and rolled her eyes at him.
It was a good thing Heya wasn’t there; otherwise, she might have started scolding.
"Ro... The Headless Knight was half-mad, half-idiotic back then, one moment unswervingly loyal to the Goddess, the next a willing hound of Hell. He tampered with the Sealing Book; after seeing me, a strand of his thoughts appeared, and after a brief moment of lucidity, he clarified his situation and warned me not to set foot in Paris, or else, between him and me, only one God-chosen Knight would survive," Wayne continued.
"Knowing this, why did you still come to Paris?" Sukra couldn’t understand.
"Her Holiness thinks I’m bound to lose?"
"Yes."
Sukra nodded, initially that was indeed what she thought, but now she wasn’t so sure; Wayne had changed more than she could have imagined, quite possibly being able to tie with Rone.
"Wanna bet on it? On whether the Headless Knight or I will survive," Wayne raised an eyebrow.
Hexuno, on the other hand, looked on with cold eyes; she was familiar with this routine and if she wasn’t wrong, the Death Holy Maiden was about to betray the Goddess of Death.
"No, thanks. Death is peaceful and serene; we don’t engage in meaningless struggles," Sukra gently shook her head with a hint of sorrow, "Although we are disciples of Death, what we seek is not death itself. Gambling with lives doesn’t align with our beliefs, I hope you remember that."
Wayne: "..."
The Naturalism Church seemed to have sunk even lower.
Looking at other churches, that had morals and strength when needed; the only thing the Naturalism Church had was, well, nothing. The one formidable figure they had, Saina, had now become a traitor.
Sukra continued, "Leave Paris. Now is not the time for you and Rone to meet. Your talent is commendable, but you haven’t had Shadowmare long enough; you will lose to Rone..."
"If he retrieves Shadowmare, everything will be beyond redemption."
"What do you mean, beyond redemption?" Wayne frowned, sensing an ulterior message in Sukra’s words.
"With the Devil Alliance strengthening further and controlling the complete Death Knight, no one can prevent Hell Gate from opening; everything will be irretrievable," explained Sukra.
Really? It doesn’t seem like that’s the reason.
Wayne looked intently at Sukra, who was shrouded in mist, making conversation with such a person very taxing.
Taking a deep breath, he said sincerely, "Her Holiness, I am the God’s Chosen Knight recognized by the Goddess; we are all on the same side. If there’s something hidden, just say it outright, I would never betray the Goddess."
"No, you are not the Knight chosen by the Goddess; it was I who chose you. I led Yuliya to bring Shadowmare to your side," Sukra corrected Wayne’s misconception.
"Ah, this..."
Sukra narrated the circumstances of the time, still being cryptic as ever. She concealed much, revealing only the part about Wayne acquiring the Godchosen Artifact.
And told Wayne that she deliberately left a trace of Death’s essence at the Wayne Detective Agency from the get-go. Guided by that trace, Yuliya followed the scent right to him.
