Chapter 1169: Chapter 404: Such a Terrifying Chapter Name
"You are..."
"Wayne?!"
Against the backdrop of swirling dust, Isabella’s face showed shock. Two years had passed, but she still remembered Wayne’s face and manner of speaking, yet the strength he displayed made her hesitant to acknowledge him.
She felt Wayne was even stronger than she was!
She herself was already a Gold Mage, whereas two years ago Wayne was merely a Mage Apprentice.
A misconception?
Is there a possibility that the shoes are an extremely powerful Magic Tool?
Around them, the members of the Scalpel Organization lived up to their elite reputation. After a brief moment of surprise, they swarmed around the mutated creature, keeping a certain distance, and recast their spells to restrain it.
No big deal, as effortless as always.
The creature, like a deflated balloon after its outburst, slumped down wilted and powerless to resist.
Facing the inescapable seal, the mutated creature turned back into a human form and let out a couple of wails. Its vitality dispersed, and the moisture in its body instantly evaporated, leaving behind a mummified corpse.
Under the pressure of the seal, the mummified corpse turned into ashes, leaving in a hurry, without even uttering a spiteful ’I will return.’
There’s a problem! xN
The consecutive bizarre events confused the elites, and their gaze toward Wayne became somewhat strange.
According to their years of frontline experience, there is a demon at work behind any abnormality. The person who appeared at the crime scene without warning and who seemed out of place, was very likely the real mastermind behind the scenes.
Criminals, after all, take pleasure in appearing at the crime scene to appreciate their own masterpieces up close.
Noticing her teammates’ glances, Isabella frowned slightly. She also felt that there were many questionable points about Wayne; his rapid advancement in strength did not seem likely to be his doing. Someone else must have disguised themselves as him.
But if it was through acquaintanceship, there was no need to impersonate Wayne. She knew Wayne, but they were merely normal friends, not that close.
Isabella picked up the shoes from the ground and examined them closely. They were not Magic Tools, just a very ordinary pair of shoes.
Handmade, expensive, but nothing special about them.
For a moment, Isabella felt even more wary, firm in her intuition that the mystery person in front of her was not Wayne. Someone had used disguise to take on his appearance.
A cold wind blew, adding a sense of solemnity to the atmosphere.
Wayne, with a dumbfounded expression, probably guessed something. He waved his hand and reached into The Void, searching through his Personal Space.
Everyone stepped back in unison, Isabella took a defensive stance, signaling tactic hand signals behind her, and concentrated, waiting for the mysterious person to make a move.
A formidable opponent, at least at the Gold Mage Level. The slightest mistake could lead to a dead end.
Ding-dong!
"Oh dear, how did my Divine Oracle High Priest Scepter, identification, and badge end up on the floor?"
Wayne raised an eyebrow, exuding the dignity of a leader, half-mockingly said: "What are you waiting for, you fish from Paris District? You don’t have an eye for detail! Do you still want to keep your job or not!"
"???" x7
The scene shifts.
The members of the Scalpel Organization lined up neatly, with Isabella at the foremost, standing tall and proud, hands tightly by her sides, looking straight ahead without swaying.
Sweat poured down like rain, with panic setting in.
After verification, the scepter, identification, and badge were all real; it was indeed the person of the Divine Oracle High Priest himself.
"Number off!"
"1!"
"2!"
"3!"
"...
7!"
"Not bad, you lot, daring to make an attempt on the life of The Church’s Divine Oracle High Priest in the dead of night! What is the meaning of this, Paris District? Where is the High Priest? Putting a scalpel into the heart of Church headquarters, are you trying to revolt?"
Wayne paced in front of the line with his hands behind his back, punching no. 7 in the chest and angrily exclaimed: "Insolence at its finest, disregard for Church doctrine, I can’t stand you rebellious sorts, completely lacking loyalty, all of you deserve to be shot..."
"No, this is an old revolutionary district, according to local culture, all of you deserve the Execution Platform."
Wayne moved his fist from no. 7 to no. 2 as if punching them, and when it was the turn of no. 1, which was Isabella, he transformed his punch into a palm and then into a claw, waving it in front of Isabella.
Sweating bullets yet?
Seeing Isabella looking straight ahead, Wayne humphed twice, drew back his hand, and scolded: "Look at you. It’s supposed to be a straight line, and yet it becomes crooked right where you stand... bending and swaying... no team spirit at all... flippity floppity... lacking any sense of discipline..."
Wayne wasn’t exaggerating. The slimmed-down Isabella’s silhouette made the line appear prominent.
Weak sense of discipline, lack of self-control, causing trouble to colleagues, distracting leadership focus, damaging The Church’s image in the hearts of believers, and causing extremely adverse social impacts.
Such a person needs reflection, a deep self-review in the leader’s office!
"Isabella, considering your years of service to The Church, no merits but plenty of hard work, I won’t make things difficult for you today over this major matter, but..."
Wayne performed the leader’s role perfectly, his tone was sharp and caustic: "The impact of this mistake is extremely negative, it could undermine the entire Scalpel Organization’s discipline, and cannot go unpunished."
"Let’s do this, write a self-review essay of five thousand words titled ’My Divine Oracle High Priest Idol.’ Being objective and realistic, no fabrications allowed, and come to my room tomorrow night to read it aloud to me, understand?"
"Yes."
Isabella inwardly groaned, full of doubts, still unclear about what had just transpired.
Her biggest question wasn’t the exaggerated growth in Wayne’s capabilities, but rather his rapid ascent; climbing from a commoner to the Divine Oracle High Priest in just two years was beyond belief, even with nepotism involved.
