Chapter 110 - 83 Family Banquet

Chapter 110: Chapter 83 Family Banquet

"Ah, the family banquet is on July 25th, which is tomorrow night?"

"What’s wrong, do you have a date?"

Hefei put down the suit and leather shoes she had ordered for Wayne, and said bluntly, "You’re still young, and young people should prioritize their studies, don’t always think about going on dates with girls. Listen to your sister, cancel this date, and some other day I’ll introduce my daughter to you."

"But I’ve already promised..."

"Decided so happily!"

Hefei stuffed the clothes into Wayne’s hands and pushed him into the bedroom, closing the door and saying, "Try the clothes on, see if they fit, if not, I can take them back and adjust them."

"This is too much of a coincidence."

Wayne, holding the clothes, changed helplessly. He had made plans to attend Veronica’s gathering on the 25th evening, which coincided with the day of Hefei’s family banquet.

After changing into a new outfit, Wayne stood in front of the full-length mirror and looked at himself from the side: the material was high quality, the craftsmanship was exquisite, and the size was so perfect it could be called flawless.

He was sure that he had never encountered the tailor from the clothing store before, which meant Hefei’s eyes must be equipped with a measuring tape; no wonder she was one of the top fashion designers in Paris.

Speaking of fashion design, Wayne thought of stockings and, out of curiosity, called out to the outside, "Teacher, three months ago you said you were going to have someone research stockings, have any samples come out?"

"They’re being rushed, currently in the model fitting phase, and it will take a bit longer for the finished product."

"I suggest you hurry up. August is coming, and summer is the best-selling season for stockings."

"I know, I know, are you done changing yet? You’re dilly dallying like a woman, do you want me to put makeup on you as well?" Hefei complained, and when Wayne pushed the door and came out, she immediately paused.

As a female fashion designer, Hefei had only made clothes for two men: one good-for-nothing husband and one student.

Without the clothes on, she didn’t notice anything, but once Wayne donned them, she increasingly felt that these two men were very much alike, not just in hair color and appearance, but also in their inner... qualities.

That kind of quality that appeared obedient and compliant on the surface, but was actually fully stubborn and rebellious on the inside!

Hefei frowned, Goddess above, let it be a misconception; having chosen a good-for-nothing as a husband, she prayed not to pick another good-for-nothing as a disciple.

"What’s wrong, is there something not right?"

Seeing his teacher’s displeased look, Wayne instinctively lifted up his sleeve to check; the clothes really made the man, and this suit made him look a class apart.

No problem, looking sharp, definitely wearable.

"Nothing, just thought of some unhappy things."

Hefei waved her hand, telling Wayne not to go anywhere on the afternoon of the 25th, as she would come to pick him up then.

After saying that, she left in a hurry to go back to her office to work.

Wayne shrugged his shoulders, hung the suit back in the wardrobe, changed into casual clothes, and dove straight into the basement, calling Ah Bin and Yuliya, and began to wander along the sewer.

Destination: Detective Agency, and along the way, he decided to help out some homeless fellows.

Sessions can be skipped, but the hustle never stops; no hustle, no future!

Riding his horse, Wayne moved at a leisurely pace and arrived at the Detective Agency after dark. He checked and sensed a hint of Magic Girl’s lingering fragrance in the air, guessing that Veronica had been there that day.

Sure enough, there was a note from her on the desk.

[Why haven’t you taken your diary yet? Call me back soon]

All this time, the Detective Agency had never installed a telephone, and it was always Wayne who initiated contact with others: Veronica had no way of finding Wayne’s telephone number.

What annoyed Veronica the most was that, despite being so familiar with each other, they still hadn’t exchanged their magical communication birds’ contact lists.

Wayne felt very helpless; he did think of it, but he had been too busy lately, and besides, the phone line at his temporary residence had been cut, and the repairman had yet to arrive.

That’s just how Lundan works: make a bunch of promises to lure the clients in, then once the money is in the account, they’re short on staff, resulting in a terrible customer experience.

Wayne pocketed the diary and went out to the street to make a phone call, quickly getting in touch with Veronica.

He might have to stand everyone up on the date of the 25th, and he hoped the organizer wouldn’t be angry as the main character would be missing.

"Yo, if it isn’t Boss Wayne, you’ve been so busy lately, haven’t you?"

"For the sake of making a living, being busy is good!"

Wayne put on a thick-skinned smile, feeling bad about standing people up, especially three beautiful young women, pondering how to pass the buck without hurting feelings.

But before he could speak, Veronica hesitated and said, "About tomorrow night’s gathering, an emergency situation has come up on my end, and I might have to reschedule."

"What do you mean, did you get your period?"

"Sort of..."

"You know, we set the date a week in advance; how can you just cancel on a whim? Aren’t you a girl? Can’t you count your days?"

"I thought we were friends, I trusted you so much, and this is how you treat your friends?"

Upon hearing that Veronica was canceling, Wayne immediately raised his voice, as everyone knew he detested people who broke their word.

On the other side of the phone, Veronica apologized quietly, explaining that she had already talked to Vily and Kris and had made a special trip to the Detective Agency since she couldn’t get in touch with Wayne.

"What’s the use of saying this now, do you know how much I was looking forward to tomorrow night’s gathering, Veronica, you’ve really disappointed me!" Wayne scolded loudly, "Also, apologizing so quietly, it shows no sincerity at all."

That’s preposterous, don’t get too arrogant!

Veronica was furious, took a deep breath, thought about it and realized that she was indeed at fault first, and quietly apologized again.

"I’m sorry."
