Chapter 1058: Chapter 376: Life Should Be Brave Enough to Face Every Challenge
"A nation cannot be without a ruler for even a single day; The Church cannot be leaderless for one day..."
"I support Pontiff Saina; she is truly the people’s choice!"
In the Temporary Council Hall, the senior ranks of the Naturalism Church gathered. Weiwen slammed his hand on the table and rose to his feet, glaring at Beck and Makarai.
These two insectoids actually survived what should have been their death due to friendly fire and now have become heroes for exposing Ludwig—it’s simply outrageous!
"Why are you looking at me?"
"Weiwen, put away your thoughts of stirring up trouble. We too are absolute supporters of Pontiff Saina. If someone else becomes the Pope, Makarai and I will be the first to refuse."
"Ha, you merely fear His Holiness the Pope’s martial prowess. I’m different; I worship her for her noble character, and my loyalty comes from the heart."
"Child of the Beach!"
The three Divine Oracle High Priests argued noisily, and the superiority of the council system was vividly demonstrated at this moment.
"Enough! Stop arguing. You are all Divine Oracle High Priests. Behaving so absurdly, what example are you setting?"
Pontiff Saina, sitting in the Pope’s chair and dressed in Life Armor with the Elemental Mantra on the table, spoke sternly, "Who is the Pope, who can become the Pope, these decisions will determine the future development and overall interests of The Church. This matter is of great importance and must be handled with caution. We shouldn’t rush into a decision, and it’s not for you three to determine."
"Your Holiness the Pope, it is precisely because the matter is of such great importance that a decision needs to be made immediately."
"The traitor Ludwig is a minion of the Devil, and his death will surely provoke bloody retaliation from Hell and Prussia. If The Church remains fragmented, delaying the selection of a new leader will only lead to greater sacrifices."
"Yes, The Church and Prussia are too deeply entwined; a new leader must make timely decisions to cut ties, delaying it will harm the Church’s future and overall interests."
For the greater good, please become the Pope!
"I have made up my mind; let’s discuss this further!"
"We will obey His Holiness the Pope’s command, and discuss this further." x5
Tubie and Dusa joined the chorus of yes-men.
Gavin: (ಠ_ಠ)
Isn’t this already decided?!
Gavin watched the scene with a dark face; Saina’s becoming the Pontiff was set in stone. He lacked the right to object, nor could he find any reason to.
Gavin didn’t like Saina. In his eyes, all four Divine Oracle High Priests were power-hungry; they had wasted plenty of Church resources for their own interests.
The difference was, Weiwen, Beck, and Makarai were more shameless. Saina had some shame but was more dominant, a well-known hawk within The Church’s hierarchy.
With her as the Pontiff, she would surely tear up agreements, waving the banner of developing followers to launch offensives against other churches.
Strictly speaking, this is not a qualified leader.
But...
Gavin looked at the Elemental Mantra, with many words on his lips, yet unable to utter a single one.
Saina’s supporter was Wayne, the future Naturalist Knight. The Goddess had chosen Wayne, Wayne had chosen Saina, which was tantamount to the Goddess choosing Saina.
He only hoped Wayne would restrain Saina more, temper her dominant character, and avoid a war of faith among the churches.
"Vice Commander Gavin, what does your darkening face and silence mean?"
"Steamed bun, are you dissatisfied?"
"I knew you were a troublemaker. Tell the truth, do you want to become the Pope?"
The three insectoids took the opportunity to show loyalty, and seeing Gavin’s silent and lofty demeanor, they immediately focused their fire on him.
You’re lofty, you’re incredible, you have the spirit of a Knight, and we’re all beneath you, right!
"I have no desire to become the Pope, and I am also willing to support High Priestess Saina." Gavin stated directly, interrupting the barrage from the three insectoids.
This brought smug satisfaction to the trio, as if they had drawn a respectable man into the mud.
No matter how much Gavin boasts of knightly virtues and keeps a lofty distance in arrogance, in the end, he’s just like us, humbly submitting to the absolute Fist Power.
Speaking of absolute Fist Power, the trio of Weiwen couldn’t help but glance at the Elemental Mantra on the table.
Ludwig unleashed his Life Domain, possessed the Philosopher’s Stone, a half-demi-god with the additional half being the form of a Hell Black Dragon, an intimidating level of strength that led to despair.
Saina and Wayne shouting love and bonds and such, used a Fusion Skill to charge and take down Ludwig.
Of course, to everyone else, the mysterious Naturalist Knight was never seen from the beginning to the end, only bestowing the Elemental Mantra, and then half-demi-god x2 Ludwig was vanquished.
If not Saina, who else to support?
This, this is the absolute Fist Power!
Seeing Gavin, who was always so proud, choose to support her, Saina’s lips curled into a slight smile. She ran her hand over the Elemental Mantra, feeling as if she had reached the pinnacle of life.
The insectoids’ support was neither here nor there; the loyalty of the Riding Strong Faction wasn’t worth mentioning – they supported whoever won. Gavin was different; he stood for justice and righteousness, a Knight of strong principles.
Saina still remembered how coldly Gavin used to greet her.
Looking back now, Saina felt utterly at ease, wishing she could pursue another battle after the great conflict.
Unfortunately, battle was not an option for now. Today’s meeting was critically important, and moreover, Wayne wasn’t within her but in the Dark Domain of the Archbishop’s Great Hall, cracking Ludwig’s safe.
"Enough talk; the selection of the Pope is a matter of grave importance. Capability, strength, and character are essential. Not just anyone is qualified, yet now The Church is on the edge of a cliff, and we must have a strong acting Pope to take charge..."
After an impassioned speech by Saina and modest refusals three times over, she reluctantly became the acting Pontiff, taking charge of the affairs of The Church of Naturalism.
Everyone was sincerely convinced, praising her for her detachment from fame and power, free from the entanglements of authority, and having a responsible spirit of self-sacrifice – truly a model of knighthood. To have such an acting Pontiff was an honor for all members of The Church.
