Mythical Monster Evolution
Chapter 35: Special Rats

Chapter 35: Special Rats

’What are you talking about? Why would it matter if it saw you?’ Kai asked as he couldn’t comprehend what was currently happening.

’Well, there is a bit of history between me and the Elven Spirit King... that’s all.’

Kai shook his head.

The more he learned about Isla, the more shocked he became. He knew that she was special since she was so close with Varkul. However, it just seemed like before being bound with the Mythical Evolution System, she was one of the strongest people in the world. Not only that, she literally knew a lot of the strongest beings the world had ever seen.

The woman from the Corrupted Tree was someone she knew. Puma, one of Varkul’s creations... and now the Elven Spirit King. The list could go on and on... and the worst part about all this was the fact that they were only in the first realm. As they began to climb the realms, more and more people would begin to recognize her without a doubt.

’Do you feel him close?’ Kai asked as he couldn’t sense anything nearby, and he was getting closer and closer to running out of Monster Energy.

’Hm... I think so. With my current strength, I can’t tell if he’s currently looking at us...’ Isla said with a sigh.

Kai understood her frustration. For someone who was used to being extremely powerful, finding herself in such a situation must be extremely hard for her. Kai could only imagine what it felt like, even if he had previously been in a similar situation, even if it wasn’t on the same scale of things whatsoever.

’I see, then I’ll deactivate [Shadow Cloak] and [Shadow Armor]...’ Kai said as his Monster Energy was running dry.

He still had the ability to fully recharge it at any time. But given the cooldown, Kai thought it was best to use it when truly necessary, especially since he could also recuperate Monster Energy through the Cultivation Technique over time.

But then, as soon as Kai deactivated [Shadow Cloak], he started hearing a bunch of squeaky noises a bit further down the cave.

The noises were hard to distinguish, especially since Kai couldn’t see the monsters.

’Should I go and check it out?’ Kai asked Isla, who immediately began nodding as she deemed that it didn’t seem very dangerous.

As Kai began walking in the direction of all the noises, a scream resounded in his ear.

"!$&!)$!"

It was full of gibberish. However, it definitely sounded like words. It wasn’t a monster; someone was definitely shouting something.

’Quickly, it’s an elf. He’s calling for help!’

At those words, Kai picked up the pace as he arrived on the other side of the cave, where some lava was lighting up the surroundings, making it possible for Kai to finally have a good glance at what could be found in this place.

The walls were covered with beautiful gems of different colors: blue, green, red... it was truly a sight to behold. However, Kai had no choice but to quickly dismiss those thoughts as he locked eyes with the being who had just screamed for help.

Right beside the lava, an elf was currently injured, with a bunch of giant rats slowly getting closer to him. In his hands was a broken pickaxe that had probably broken as he tried to mine the minerals etched into the cave walls.

Giving him a quick glance, Kai counted at least three giant rats on the verge of jumping on him.

They were massive, each of them being at least two times the size of Kai in his current growth stage. However, as Kai glanced at them, he didn’t feel a lot of danger. He could take them on; he was confident. Still, he needed to act fast or that elf would die without a doubt.

Kai’s Monster Core was currently about one-fourth of its full capacity. But even then, that much energy was sufficient to deal with weak monsters like this.

"Hey, you ugly rats, look over here!" Kai screamed in dragon tongue, hoping to grasp the attention of the rats.

All of them, without exception, snapped their heads around as they hissed toward Kai and his presence, not even backing down.

Suddenly, the biggest rat of them all took a leap toward Kai with its claws right in front of his face, clearly aiming to injure Kai right away.

However, the rat’s attack was way too sloppy and slow to have any effect as Kai gracefully dodged the attack, optimizing his movements to the best of his ability.

Right as the rat’s front legs landed on the ground, Kai activated [Shadow Claw] and cut both of its legs off, making it unable to battle any further.

After showing such skills, the two other rats hesitated before moving... unsure what to do as their "leader" was currently at their enemy’s mercy.

They exchanged a few chirping noises before running away just as fast.

Kai smirked as he saw that behavior and killed the rat he injured a few seconds ago, using [Devour] on it. He was curious to see what kind of bloodline he would obtain from a rat.

-Bloodline Origins-

[Ratbo (95%)]

[Blue Dragon (3%)]

[Spirit King(1%)]

[Various Undetermined Bloodlines (1%)]

’Why does this rat have a bloodline related to the Spirits and a dragon?’ Kai immediately asked as he couldn’t believe his luck. ’Put him in my evolution space. It could be useful later.’

This made no sense at all.

How was it that a rat he could defeat without even struggling possessed such powerful bloodlines? Sure, they were not a high percentage. But even then, this was definitely very strange.

’Hm... for the Blue Dragon, I think it’s quite easy to explain. Most beings born in the Elven Forest will be related to him since he is the one giving the hallucinogenic effect on those entering the forest. To counter that, he probably gives a very small portion of his bloodline to the monsters born in this environment.’

’As for the Spirit King bloodline... who knows why such a weak monster is related to him?’ Isla said as she shook her head rapidly. ’The fact that he tried to attack us was already strange enough. Something definitely changed since I left... maybe the role of Spirits changed greatly after Varkul died.’ She shrugged. ’Who knows? Anyway, you definitely got lucky again. You should definitely kill a few more of those rats; those bloodlines are extremely valuable, and if you could evolve into one of them, it would give you great abilities in the future.’

As Isla began rambling about some stuff, the elf who had been on the edge of falling into the lava was staring at Kai... his uncertain gaze clearly showing his confusion.

"P-Please don’t kill me... I-I’m royalty! The elves will never forgive you if anything happens to me!" the elf, covered in injuries, shouted as a last resort, clearly hoping that the small dragon who had just saved him would understand something coming out of his mouth. "I’ll reward you if you help me!"
