Chapter 476: More time

Ethan, now fully in his battle form, couldn’t help but glance toward the spatial rift Malenthia had opened.

From within that swirling portal, a relentless tide of 12th-Tier Shadow Matriarchs was still pouring out.

This was Malenthia’s own kin. Sure, they were only 12th-Tier units, but under her command, they fought with terrifying coordination and power.

And more importantly—

She had a lot of them.

According to their intel, Malenthia controlled three full legions of these 12th-Tier Shadow Matriarchs. Each legion numbered 3,000 units—meaning she had a total of 9,000 at her disposal.

They had already wiped out one of those legions when they took down Malenthia’s first castle.

But that still left two.

That’s 6,000 Shadow Matriarchs—still on the field.

And under Malenthia’s command, that many Shadow Matriarchs could easily rival the combat strength of a full army of nearly a thousand 13th-Tier Legendary Units.

And that’s not even counting the dozen-plus orange-tier Legendary heroes fighting on Malenthia’s side.

Sure, in terms of tier, raw power, and hero quality, those orange-tier heroes couldn’t hold a candle to someone like Kaiin or Orryn.

But—

When it came to level, experience, large-scale combat, and commanding armies?

They had the upper hand. No question.

VMMM!

Right then, the Ebonite Colossus, Kaiin, was locked in battle, surrounded by a swarm of Red Dragons.

Dark energy pulsed around his massive frame, forming a shimmering shield-like barrier. Even under the relentless assault of the Red Dragon horde, he remained untouched—completely unharmed.

Instead, he was slowly tearing through them, one by one.

Orryn, the Green Dragon, was fighting with a lot less restraint.

BOOM!

A massive storm surged behind him, like thunderclouds rolling over a dark sea. The power gathered, then crashed forward like a tidal wave, slamming into the Black Dragons ahead.

Behind Orryn, hundreds of Green Dragons followed his lead, charging into the fray.

They were going head-to-head with the Black Dragons.

Forcing a clash between 13th-Tier Legendary Units and 14th-Tier Mythic Units.

ROAR! ROAR! ROAR...

But the Black Dragons were monsters—pure destruction incarnate. Their dark energy surged through the sky like a cataclysmic storm. That power wrapped around their bodies, their heads, their claws—

And with terrifying ease, they shredded their enemies.

Even the mighty Green Dragons—beasts of legend in their own right—were like paper in front of them.

One hit, and they were gone. Scattered. Broken.

BOOM!

Another strike cracked the sky, sending out a shockwave that rippled like a sonic boom. In the chaos, one Green Dragon was caught between two Black Dragons. It didn’t even last a second—torn apart in a single, brutal blow.

But—

The two Black Dragons that delivered the killing strike didn’t get away unscathed.

RUMBLE...

A burst of searing flame and a flash of monstrous claws tore through the battlefield. From the sky and the earth, a Phoenix and an Ancient Behemoth struck in unison. Their combined power slammed into one of the Black Dragons mid-flight, intercepting it with devastating force.

CRASH!

The impact shattered the ground, carving out a massive crater.

ROOOAAAR!

The Black Dragon’s agonized roar echoed from the pit.

But it wasn’t getting back up.

It was trapped. And it wasn’t going anywhere.

On the battlefield, the Black Dragons were kings of the skies—but on the ground? The Behemoths reigned supreme. In terms of overall power, a Black Dragon might edge out an Ancient Behemoth, but when it came to fighting on solid earth, they were evenly matched.

And right now, one of those Black Dragons was completely surrounded by a pack of Ancient Behemoths.

ROAR! ROAR! ROAR!

THUD!

RUMBLE RUMBLE RUMBLE...

The savage roars of dragons clashed with the thunderous bellows of the Behemoths, shaking the air like a war drum. Dragon claws slashed, Behemoth talons swung, and the ground itself trembled under the weight of their fury.

But it didn’t take long.

Outnumbered and deep in enemy territory, the Black Dragon couldn’t hold out. It was overwhelmed—torn apart by the combined assault of the Ancient Behemoths.

ROAR! ROAR! ROAR...

The sight of one of their own being ripped to shreds sent a wave of rage through the skies. The other Black Dragons and Red Dragons let out furious cries, their bodies glowing with surging power. With a single beat of their wings, they dove toward the Behemoth and Phoenix legions, ready to retaliate.

And then things got worse.

Even the Shadow Matriarchs started to move.

Unlike the dragons, they didn’t need to charge into the front lines. As a magic-based army, they could stay far from the chaos and still rain death from a distance.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh...

Countless streams of dark, liquid-like energy tore through the sky, slamming into the battlefield with devastating force. Each blast triggered a shockwave that rippled out for hundreds of feet, obliterating anything caught in its path.

A single 12th-Tier Shadow Matriarch’s spell? A 13th-Tier Legendary Unit wouldn’t even flinch.

But twenty or thirty casting at once?

Even the strongest would take that seriously.

And this wasn’t twenty or thirty.

This was six thousand.

If you did the math—just raw numbers and power output—this kind of concentrated firepower could straight-up kill a Crimson Ultimate hero who’d undergone their first awakening.

RUMBLE RUMBLE RUMBLE...

The Shadow Matriarchs’ barrage swept across nearly half the battlefield. Even the mighty Green Dragons, Behemoths, and Firebirds—13th-Tier Legendary Units—were getting shredded. Those already wounded were the first to fall, collapsing under the relentless magical assault.

Dozens of units were lost in a matter of seconds.

"Damn it!"

Kaiin, Orryn, and Balthazar all wore grim expressions as they watched the carnage unfold.

This battle was turning into a nightmare.

As long as they couldn’t break through the Black Dragon and Red Dragon lines, the Shadow Matriarchs had free reign to bombard them from a distance. It was like shooting fish in a barrel—no risk, no resistance.

"All we can do now is hope Isaryne finishes off those Hero Units soon..."

Orryn, the Green Dragon, glanced toward the distant battlefield where Isaryne was still locked in combat, hunting down enemy heroes. He muttered under his breath, "If she can take them out quickly, the tide of this battle will finally start to turn."

In terms of raw power, aside from Malenthia, Seraphina, and the legendary Emerald Castle Lord—

Isaryne was the strongest one on the field.

A Firebird hero with that kind of strength, if she could fight without holding back, could absolutely shift the momentum of the entire war.

Just imagine it—

If Isaryne could break through and dive straight into the Shadow Matriarch ranks...

It’d be a massacre.

A tiger in a flock of sheep.

She’d tear through them like paper.

Sure, the Shadow Matriarchs were devastating at range, no doubt about that.

But they had one huge weakness:

They sucked at close combat.

Once someone got in their face, it was over. That was when judgment came.

The only problem?

Even for someone as powerful as Isaryne, taking down over a dozen orange-tier Legendary heroes wasn’t exactly a walk in the park.

So what they needed now—was time.

If they wanted to flip this battle on its head, they had to buy her more time.
