Chapter 414: Chapter 413: The New Divine of the North

However, today’s atmosphere had changed.

When Mekefa was invited into the Ice and Snow Hall, he felt the Guards puffing out their chests a bit taller, and the butler leading the way seemed to move with added haste.

It was as though the clouds that had been looming over people’s heads for the past few days had suddenly been blown away.

He frowned slightly and cautiously entered the inner sanctum.

The other members of the Royal Guards were already there, along with the priests of the Furnace Cult, Count Francken, and Duke Rosha himself.

Yet, not one of them stood at the main seat.

Mekefa subconsciously looked towards the center of the hall, where atop the three tiers of stone steps stood a blurry figure. The blazing fire basins on either side cast his shadow onto the high wall behind him, making it appear exceptionally towering. Unlike ordinary people, the shadow had two pointed horns atop its head and a pair of bizarre wings unfolded at its side.

These wings almost immediately reminded him of the statue of the divinities that had been resurrected in the City of Defense!

"Everyone has arrived." Duke Rosha glanced at him, then walked to the front of the stage and spread his arms to the crowd, "Ladies and gentlemen, on behalf of the Winter Country, I am pleased to announce good news to you all! For a long time, we have been praying to the heavens, hoping that one day we could once again welcome a protective deity of this era. Now, our prayers have finally been answered! The new divine entity has come before us!"

Divine... entity?

Mekefa looked incredulously towards the figure on the stage, and as if to validate Duke Rosha’s words, the figure began to materialize from the flames. Gradually, it was no longer a vague apparition but a solid entity. In a sense, it resembled a person, yet possessed many aberrant features, such as red skin, cat-like golden pupils, horns, and membranous wings... Such a person, if placed outside, would most likely be categorized as a member of a strange race like the Haiwei People, lucky to not be killed on sight.

And Mekefa could not sense this individual’s presence.

An existence like Kokomoqi, even resembling a young girl from the outside, could be felt from tens of meters away with that oppressive presence. But this "person" had none – either it was too good at concealing, or it simply lacked the power of divinities.

"Please allow me to introduce them, this is the New Divine born in response to our prayers, the great Savior, Alparan!"

As Duke Rosha loudly proclaimed, the crowd around also erupted into excited cheers!

But Mekefa noticed that those who were raising their hands and shouting were all from Zhaixing City. Those from the Furnace Cult were skeptical, and Count Francken’s face was particularly grave.

"I would like to ask Duke Rosha," the Earl gestured to interrupt the cheering, "Before this, you and Sir Hollis locked yourselves in the Ice and Snow Hall without seeing outsiders or dealing with governmental affairs, could it be that you have been concentrating solely on prayers, putting all your hopes in the hands of the divinities?"

"My lord Count, mind your words," Hollis said displeased, "Are you questioning Duke Rosha’s approach?"

"We all know... blind prayers might invite disasters, like the attention of the Evil God." He didn’t intend to let it go and took a step forward, "As far as I know, the birth of a divinity would cause changes in the heavens, as well as disruptions to the absorption of Faith Power. Yet, my lord has not sensed anything like this recently... So, I want to know, what exactly did you do in the Ice and Snow Hall? This ’divinity’ doesn’t seem like a righteous god born of prayers from thousands of people."

"What I did, you do not need to know," Rosha said slowly, "Although we are allies, we do not share the secrets of our families... Especially secrets that have been passed down for generations. And regarding ’my lord’ you spoke of, if you are referring to that God of the Furnace, it’s normal that he didn’t notice. After all, he is also an ancient god who has been around for several hundred years, and in this era, he has already lost the role he once had."

"What did you say!?" Count Francken’s face turned ashen, "The Furnace Cult cannot tolerate such insults, please retract your words!"

The once buzzing hall suddenly fell into utter silence.

"What’s the matter? Did I say something wrong?" Duke Rosha shrugged, "The protection of divinities has its time limit; I thought you understood this truth. The Magic Goddess and the God of Heroes are prime examples, they were once immensely powerful, and I had great hopes for them, but what was the result? They ended in betrayal."

"This truth is cruel but simple to comprehend; divinities, like people, will wither away. The rise of the Longjiu Family and the ascendance of the Paradise Sect are because they possess newly born New Divine Entities."

Angered, Francken retorted, "The God of All Machines is indeed powerful, but do not forget that the Longjiu Family controls the continent’s wealthiest machinery companies, they have countless nobles, security companies, and mercenaries serving them — this isn’t merely a matter of divine favor."

"It seems... some do not believe in my abilities." Alparan, the God of Redemption, scanned the attendees and finally rested his gaze on Count Francken, "I’ve just awakened recently and am still unclear about the rules of this world. How did past divinities demonstrate their power?"

Duke Rosha respectfully replied, "There are many ways... Some divinities unfold their Divine Country, manifesting their power; others fulfill the wishes of those who pray to them, turning the impossible into possible."

"So it’s all about one’s own ability, right?" Alparan smiled, "My domain is redemption, representing the light in the depths of despair, much like the situation you all are now facing, with half of your beings sunk in despair. But don’t worry, with enough power, any desperate situation can be overcome."
