Mystery Paradise: Wishing Power Demon
Chapter 364 - 363 Psalms

Chapter 364: Chapter 363 Psalms

"Are you Chaoyang?" It took Ailuodi a full half minute to accept this fact. There was a mirror in the room, and with just one glance, both could see they had completely transformed into another person. "What about the contract between us?"

"It’s gone. Wait for me..." Chaoyang forced himself to calm down and inspect his physical condition. Unbeknownst to him until now, his heart sank at what he found. All those white threads that continuously supplied him with wishing power had vanished, and even the wishing power that resided within his body was now reduced to a mere trifle. If quantified, it was exactly fifteen hundred.

Fifteen hundred... He hadn’t experienced the fear of depleted wishing power in a long time!

This amount of wishing power was roughly the same as when he had just become a demon.

This wasn’t just a setback to the past; it was like going back to the year 1912!

"What’s wrong?" Ailuodi noticed his unpleasant expression.

"The wishing power... it’s all gone. No, let’s not worry about that for now." He extended his right hand, focused his mind, and after quite a while, a contract finally appeared in his hand.

Demonic abilities seemed to still be there, just responding much slower than before, as if there was a high latency in the transmission of his will.

"Does this... prove my identity?"

"Before that, how could you recognize me?"

"You were trying to cleave me with the Storm Sword, right?" Chaoyang sighed, "That resolute expression and the way you wielded the sword were just like when we first met at Dane’s house."

"You still remember that, huh? I’ve apologized already," Ailuodi muttered, taking the contract and glancing over it before pressing her thumbprint, "Let’s try, can you hear me?"

"Yes, there’s sound now."

The moment they reinstated their telepathic communication, both of them let out a sigh of relief.

"What exactly is going on now? You last night to me..."

"I just woke up too, barely two minutes earlier than you!" Chaoyang glared, then quickly averted his gaze, "Clothes!"

Ailuodi’s face instantly turned red.

Even if this body was nothing like her own.

"Help me look!"

Chaoyang had no choice but to search around. Fortunately, there were plenty of clothes in the wardrobe of the room. He randomly picked out several loose robes and shirts and threw them to her, no longer caring whether they were in style or not.

"All right, you can turn around now," Ailuodi said after rustling about for a while.

Only at this moment did he take the time to properly examine her. The angel’s new body was about twenty-something years old, with tan skin and a full figure. Her facial features were nothing like her original appearance, merely average.

"You’ve aged," Ailuodi observed him too, "At first glance, you don’t look like a good person, more like a typical villain in the movies."

"You don’t have to tell me, I already know," Chaoyang sighed. He had noticed in the mirror earlier that his new body was roughly between 35 to 40 years old, of medium height and thin build, with a lot of stubble on his face and deep-set eyes like holes, the mark of a person who neglected personal grooming and probably with a history of heavy drinking and severe lack of sleep. "We need to quickly figure out the identities of the original owners of these two bodies and what our relationship is to one another."

"There’s quite a lot that we urgently need to figure out," Ailuodi said, jumping off the bed and striding over to the window, "but there’s one thing we might confirm. Come here and take a look."

Chaoyang complied and came to the window, looking out at the world outside—right now, the sunlight was so bright it was almost blinding, forcing him to raise his hand to shield his forehead. Beneath the sunlight, there lay a vibrant city with interconnected houses of one or two stories, stretching out for miles. Pedestrians of varied attire could be seen everywhere in the streets and alleys, with the noise of people chatting, the shouting of vendors, and even the sound of fights all mixing into a cacophony overhead. Further away, the sea occupied the entire view, with blue waters extending all the way to the horizon, enveloping the city in its midst.

A seaside city?

Chaoyang leaned out of the window once more, straining to turn his head to look to the other sides—one side still displayed the ocean, whereas the opposite side revealed a stretch of undulating forests.

"Are we in... City of Defense?"

"That’s what I think," Ailuodi nodded, "If it truly is the City of Defense, then it’s rather astonishing. Look... the commotion down there, where’s the slightest sign that it was ever swallowed by the mist?"

The City of Defense, yet to be enveloped by the mist...

Fifteen years ago...

Had they arrived in the past!?

The two exchanged glances, simultaneously arriving at the same conclusion—the Evil God. The fall of City of Defense was due to being shrouded in mist, but they both knew that the mist only appeared where the influence of the Evil God was strongest. And before the Obelisk’s green light had emerged, Shi Yin had also issued a warning of the Primordial Gods’ presence.

"Let’s speculate a bit," Ailuodi said quickly, "Even after fifteen years, the power of the Evil God hasn’t dissipated completely. It has merely been isolated by the mist, preventing it from affecting the outside world. But you dispersed the mist, effectively lifting the veil off City of Defense, and the power of the Evil God was consequently released."

"I think you’re right," Chaoyang could only agree since he felt the same way. Because Shi Yin had boldly claimed it could detect the scent of its kind immediately, he had thought that the biggest obstacle might come from the Mist God. But who would have expected that, even after more than a decade, the Evil God was still affecting this city? The Huiqiu Mine, where the God of Causality had descended, was now nearly a tourist hotspot.

Another oversight was that, from Shi Yin’s warning to the arrival of the green light, there wasn’t even a second’s delay. Yet when faced with the red light of the God of Causality, they had at least a moment to think of countermeasures.

This was no longer a question of mere carelessness... As long as he planned to disperse the mist in City of Defense, he was bound to encounter such a situation.

"That angular Obelisk must be the Evil God..." Ailuodi mused, "At that time, my instinct was to take you away because I sensed a strong danger. Looking back now, that hair-raising sensation is just like when I saw the sky split open at Magnificent Castle."

The sky split open, blood cascading like a waterfall, writhing membranes... Just a bit more, and the God of Causality could have come into this world.

What about that Obelisk? It gave off a completely different vibe—smooth, polished, towering... as though it declared it could not have been naturally created, but was instead a piece of art crafted to extreme precision.

"This might be a new Evil God," Chaoyang murmured.

"I agree," Ailuodi nodded, "Aside from being equally bizarre, it’s completely different from the aura of the Evil God at Magnificent Castle. The question is, are we dead or alive? If all of this isn’t an illusion, then why were we sent to the City of Defense before it was devoured by the mist?"

Just as Chaoyang was about to speak, he suddenly saw a transparent character appear in his field of vision!

Then came a second, a third...

He looked at Ailuodi in surprise and found that she was equally shocked, her gaze firmly fixed on a spot thirty centimeters in front of her—where there was absolutely nothing.

Chaoyang realized that it wasn’t just him; Ailuodi was seeing the same characters as well.

He forced himself to concentrate and began to read the characters one by one.

It turned out to be a poem in Chinese.

"What is a double shadow;"

"What is pity for the world?"

"Hatred arises from the heart;"

"Causality, unheard."
