Mystery Paradise: Wishing Power Demon -
Chapter 348 - 347 Redefining Paradise
Chapter 348: Chapter 347 Redefining Paradise
"Buddy, is this really a border city?"
Someone among the soldiers couldn’t help but say.
"My hometown, Windless Port, isn’t this lively even during the trade season."
Immediately, more people agreed.
"Look at what those people are wearing; it’s obvious they’re not local outfits."
"What are these outsiders here for?"
Even Kokomoqi could tell something was amiss—a remote, primitive resource city with an exaggeratedly large number of people on the streets. People of all ages seemed to stroll leisurely along the streets, obviously of a class without too much work pressure, contrasting starkly with Thistlefort, where life revolves around lumbering and hunting. If this were Royal City or some town with unique scenery, she might understand. But here, surrounded by hundreds of miles of uniform forests, what was the point of crowding here?
Could the Paradise Sect have given them some sort of enchanting drug?
"Instead of guessing here, why not ask someone?" Ryan casually stopped a passerby, pretending to be a visitor, "Excuse me... are you from Bloodhand Port? I see you’re wearing Blood Coral Beads on your hand..."
"Yeah," the man frowned, "What about it? If you run into trouble, go find the police."
"No, no trouble, I grew up in Bloodhand Port too." Ryan immediately switched to a different dialect, "I asked because I thought you might be from the same hometown."
"Ah... I see." Hearing his hometown dialect, the man became much friendlier, "My name’s Robert, what’s yours?"
"Ryan." He blinked, glancing at the crowd by the roadside, "Are you here for business?"
"No, I’m here for fun. Aren’t you?" Robert laughed, "Look, so many people, probably all like me, wanting to try out the latest leisure projects in Paradise."
To Thistlefort... for entertainment?
This answer greatly exceeded everyone’s expectations.
Seeing Ryan a bit stupefied, Robert patted his shoulder, "Buddy, when it’s time to relax, just relax. There’s no need to keep thinking about business. You’ve come to Thistlefort; why not relax with everyone? Can’t talk now, my wife is waiting for me ahead, I’ll leave first."
"Captain, you know the Bloodhand Port dialect!" The soldiers gathered around.
"I know a lot of things," Ryan said proudly, "but I’m a bit concerned about their leisure project. That... Magic Goddess, if you have official business to discuss with the Paradise Sect, I can escort you there first—"
"No," Kokomoqi interrupted him decisively, "Yu wants to see what these people are playing at in Thistlefort first."
The moment she entered the territory of The Divine Country, the Paradise Master must have been aware of her arrival. Since he did not appear immediately, obviously not minding her wandering around, there was no need for her to rush to meet him at the first opportunity. This was the reserve of the elder, as well as the consideration of the wise.
And she was indeed curious, what kind of entertainment could attract so many people from outside to the city.
It couldn’t possibly be rows of Spring Towers, could it?
So they just walked and asked questions along the way until they finally reached the southeastern corner of Thistlefort. The number of people gathered here had reached its peak, and there were crowds everywhere. The stone-paved road extended out into the countryside, and at the same time, a huge archway appeared before them.
The sign on the archway read "Wilderness Theme Park."
"Aaaahhhh—"
Suddenly, a scream pierced everyone’s ears.
Kokomoqi and Ryan immediately spotted the source of the noise—a massive circular track structure stood hundreds of meters away. Its supports were painted in bright and vibrant colors, making it very conspicuous, but the purpose of the circular track was not to transport goods; it was to send people plunging back and forth at high speeds. Participants were strapped into a small train, unable to do anything but scream, as if they were undergoing a torturous test of their courage.
"Oh my goodness..." Ryan murmured.
He immediately understood how much fun this thing must be!
Many people never left the ground in their entire lives, just like when he rode on an airplane for the first time at Magnificent Castle and experienced the thrill and shock of looking down at the earth from the sky, which was surely unforgettable. The overhead railway might not offer the same freedom as an airplane, but it was at least dozens of meters off the ground, which was like flying for the average person!
The facility on the other side was also eye-catching. It was nearly a hundred meters tall, grander than any building in Thistlefort. Its main structure was a metal wheel, with cabins hanging on the edge, slowly rotating in one direction. It was clear that visitors could look out at the city from an unprecedented height by sitting in the cabins... no, maybe they could even see the Misty Zone at the edge of the continent!
Viewing facilities like this existed in Royal City as well. But Ryan knew that the observation elevator in Royal City was not meant for ordinary people; it was mounted on the Laurel Luxury Hotel, driven by steam constructs, could only go straight up and down, and the elevator itself was a luxurious banquet hall, inaccessible to those without a certain status.
"Interesting concept." Kokomoqi was relatively unimpressed, as levitation was just a thought away for her. But she also had a big question in her mind. Thistlefort wasn’t considered a wealthy town, and it had been thoroughly plundered by Duke Rosha, so to have anything other than a sense of desolation and decay here would be a surprise. Yet, looking at the snack shops lining the road into Paradise, with all kinds of grilled, skewered, fried, and boiled snacks, their aroma wafting all the way to the gate, it didn’t seem at all like a place that had been stripped bare.
"Can we go in and experience it too?" someone in the group of soldiers asked eagerly.
Ryan looked at the Magic Goddess, who nodded indifferently, "Go on, if you want. I’ll go elsewhere for a walk."
"I’ll go with you..."
"No need, just meet back here at the gate in two hours."
Kokomoqi said. After all, no one here could see through her magical disguise, and she looked just like an ordinary fifteen or sixteen-year-old girl at the moment. Moreover, she preferred wandering alone over being accompanied by a crowd.
As she joined the crowd, she saw many interesting places—the park seemed to have been built recently, as many branching paths had yet to be paved with stone. There were plenty of signs, but many attractions were still marked as not yet open. The idea of congregating a large number of amusement activities together made her think of circuses and festivals, but whereas the latter two focused on observation and appreciation, the entertainment here involved active participation by visitors.
If such changes were all due to the Paradise Sect’s presence, they had certainly chosen the right name. Even someone as indifferent to business as her could see the immense commercial opportunities inherent in this model.
Unfortunately... as entertainment and games go, these offerings were still too superficial. Whether it was the flying tracks or the panoramic towers, they were all about simple sensory stimulation and did not significantly differ from the thrills of circus performances. They were sufficient to attract ordinary people, but she was not ordinary.
Kokomoqi considered herself to have a profound understanding of games, and if she could meet the Paradise Master again, she would surely have a good conversation.
Then she saw a hall with a sign that read "Illusory Electric World." Many people were coming in and out, their discussions of joy and reluctance were unceasing, suggesting it was quite a satisfying place.
The Magic Goddess followed them inside.
Inside, rows of strange machines lined the hall, with people tapping buttons in front of the machines, looking extremely focused. Curious, she went behind one of the travelers and saw that he was controlling a character moving through a town filled with monsters, occasionally jumping to open treasure chests overhead and obtaining treasures within, while the machine’s nameplate read "Super Olimar."
