Chapter 316: Chapter 315: The God Hunting Instrument
"Just tell us directly, what should we do?" Mekefa spoke up.
"Find a weapon that can kill a divinity," Luoxia declared slowly and clearly, "and when the God of All Machines reveals itself, completely annihilate it!"
The sitting room fell into silence for a moment.
The same thought bubbled up in everyone’s minds.
Does such a weapon truly exist? If it does, who crafted it?
"I know the questions in your minds, and I can assure you without a doubt—the weapon exists!" The Duke/Duchess stood up, their voice suddenly rising eight octaves, "In fact, we have already obtained a part of it!"
They clapped their hands, and an attendant immediately came to the side of the table, holding a lacquered black wooden box.
The Duke/Duchess opened the lid of the box and took out a strangely shaped dagger.
It was likewise completely black, about the length of a handspan. Notably, the blade of the dagger was not straight but twisted back and forth like a snake. At the handle, there was no wrapping at all, the slender tail exposed, making it look nothing like a weapon suited for combat.
In other words, it resembled more a piece of art than a weapon meant for actual battle.
But everyone understood that the esteemed Lady of the Magnificent Castle would not joke about such a matter, so they all waited quietly for her to explain further.
"I wonder if you have heard a story, long ago when humans still lived in a primitive state, their greatest dream was to capture prey every day," Luoxia did not prove anything immediately, but instead turned to narrate a legend, "Under the prayers of many tribes, a new divinity was born. He was a remarkable hunter who could shoot birds out of the sky from a hundred miles away and hunt down the beasts of the deep sea, and the tribes blessed by him always returned from the hunt laden with spoils. With an abundance of food, these people soon became powerful clans that settled parts of the continent."
"However, this Hunter God, like many ancient Latter Gods, gradually went into decline. We still do not know the specific reasons, but before leaving for good, he handed two treasures to his blessed people. With these two items, their hunts would always be successful."
"One of them is this dagger?" Ryan asked hastily.
"Indeed, it’s known as the Divine Hunting Dirk, possessing a peculiar power to curse life. Legend has it that even an armored giant elephant or the deep-sea dominator, the specter squid, would die immediately upon being stabbed by it, no matter where the wound is," Luoxia gently caressed the back of the dagger with her other hand—everyone could see that she was extremely careful, as if she truly believed the rumor. "If I had lived in that era, I’d have been overjoyed by such a treasure. After all, hunting an armored giant elephant often requires hundreds of people, with inevitable fatalities, and a single elephant can provide all the meat a tribe needs for the winter, making risks sometimes necessary. With this dagger, just poking once could solve the problem, making it a Divine Artifact to me."
"Forgive my impertinence, Duke/Duchess..." Mekefa also rose to his feet, "Are there any death row prisoners in Zhaixing City?"
"Of course," the Lady nodded.
"Perhaps we could attempt a verification—I do not know if it would work on divinities," he added, casting a glance at Kokomoqi, "but if it is effective on people, it will give us more confidence."
Shandela looked surprised at the Blooming Excalibur.
She understood the necessity of this verification, but did not expect such words to come from a member of the Royal Guards.
In her impression, aside from their outstanding abilities, every predecessor who joined the Guard was also a moral exemplar; in the fading era of knights, they were considered the last emblems of chivalry.
"You are still in formal attire, visiting the dungeons would be rather unseemly, so let’s just verify it here."
Unexpectedly, Luoxia not only agreed to his suggestion but was more direct!
As soon as she finished speaking, two attendants escorted a noble into the sitting room.
"No, how dare you treat me like this... Duke/Duchess, please hear my explanation!" The nobleman, upon seeing Luoxia, hastily cried out, "I don’t know who has been slander-mongering behind my back, but I am absolutely loyal to you!"
"This person seems to have attended the banquet before," Ryan muttered to Shandela in a low voice.
Indeed, although Shandela could not recall his name, she remembered his face.
Lady Luoxia, however, couldn’t be bothered to give him a glance, "Make him be quiet."
The Attendant delivered a fierce punch to the man’s stomach, abruptly cutting his pleas for justice short. Then, a white cloth was stuffed into his mouth, rendering him speechless.
"Mr. Andor, after your death, your amassed wealth will be invested in the construction of Zhaixing City so that every mountain dweller may benefit. This, for the ’loyal’ you, might just be the best ending," Luoxia said as she gently drew the strange dagger across the back of his hand.
Everyone saw that the cut barely penetrated a millimeter into the flesh, not serious enough to endanger life or even considered a light injury; the kind of superficial wound that would heal by itself if left untreated.
However, the next second, the nobleman known as Andor’s eyes widened tremendously. He emitted a muffled sound, and within the blink of an eye, his skin began to deteriorate, turning a deathly gray, and his struggles ceased instantly as if he had lost all his strength.
He was dead.
In just those few seconds, Shandela sensed his aura vanish completely, leaving no trace. If she had not witnessed it with her own eyes, she would find it hard to believe that such a scene had actually happened. Poisons and terminal diseases could not achieve this, and even cyanide, which could cause death if ingested, would take several minutes to spread throughout the body.
"See, this dagger is indeed effective," Luoxia said with a smile, "Take him down for burial, but still arrange the funeral according to the standards of a knight."
Now, no one doubted.
Shandela even heard Ryan swallow hard.
"How did you come by it? Could you tell us?" Mekefa asked with great interest.
"Of course, there’s nothing for me to hide from you all," Luoxia said, placing the dagger solemnly back into the square box and closing the wooden lid, "In fact, this matter has to thank General Fales Ben. He wrote to me a year ago, saying if the day came when we had to battle with the divinities, we would need to find weapons that could match them. He researched various documents, consulted with Glaik Academy, and after multiple verifications, confirmed the location of the Hunter God’s relic."
"Indeed, the general’s vigilance against the Longjiu Family’s rebellion was earlier than you all might imagine," Lady Luoxia sighed, her expression filled with regret, "it’s a pity the Royal Capital is a complex place. Not all the big shots supported him, and even among the Laurel Family, there was no lack of skeptics."
In Shandela’s mind, the memory of meeting Elise at Magnificent Castle surfaced...
’No matter what happens in the future, you will stand by the General’s side, by our family’s side, right?’
Back then, the lady and good friend Elise had shown a rare moment of vulnerability.
She looked at her subconsciously.
So the daughter had already sensed her father’s unease back then...
"Hmph, it’s because of that Heretical Cult suppression campaign more than ten years ago," a Royal Guard with an eyepatch sneered, "The general led the Kingdom Army to slaughter across half the continent, killing countless people, including many nobles involved. Those old-timers still remember that account!"
