Chapter 62
[You have killed a B rank human x4]
[You have obtained 100,000 EXP x4]
[You have obtained blood crystals x4]
Compared to killing monsters, killing humans didn't yield much. Though it did give me something quite an expensive and rare item that has ever existed. A blood crystal.
Contrary to monsters that accumulated mana in the form of a crystal, the human-constructed cores were a bit different. They weren't as volatile as a monster's, so there was no need for crystallization because where monsters couldn't control their mana like a human, humans could willingly control their mana and keep it in check.
Of course, there were some intelligent monsters that could do so as well, but core crystallization was an advantage then instead of a means to even things up.
Anyway, long topic, not necessary.
What was necessary was to understand the worth of a blood crystal. Blood crystals could only be obtained upon killing humans with mana, and that too above C rank, because that was where core solidification started in real.
[Blood crystal]
[Rank: B]
[Description: An item containing the resentment and authority of the human it belonged to prior to their death
Not only does it contain their resentment that is of the highest level, but the chances to gain their authority can be very high as well, considering the rank of the crystal]
[Effect(s):
#1: Upon consumption, the permanent effect 'Insanity' would be applied
#2: Stats according to the mana's nature would be increased. The current increment would be: +50 STR, +40 AGI, +75 STM]
Yeah, one would think it was such an OP item, but it wasn't. A blood crystal in its raw, impure form was the most lethal poison a human could ever consume. The insanity effect would increase upon the consumption of each crystal, so too much consumption was never a good thing.
But like a drug, once consumed, a human body craved more and more of it. Even I, with my exceptional mental state, wasn't impervious to the blood crystal's effects.
But, then why would I say it was such a precious item then?
Well, that was because it was the same item dropped by vampires. Of course, the characteristics were a lot more diluted compared to a vampire's blood crystal, even a low-blood vampire's, but the essence remained the same.
As for dilution, well, it could always be concentrated with enough means. And I just had something to that with.
I pulled all the dead bodies in my inventory, of course, only the human ones. These were the poor lads I had killed in the dark district of the town. Why poor? Well, no one ever bothered to investigate their disappearance.
Anyway, while they didn't give me anything when I killed them except for my 'First Blood' achievement, I didn't save them in my inventory for nothing. Besides, my main goal in killing them was something else.
Once I had placed them in perfect order and gathered the rest of the corpses around me to place them in the perfect position as well, I began to draw a circle around them.
With my own blood as a catalyst, of course. But it wasn't just any blood. It was the blood with my life force infused so...

In total, I lost ten points of my HP to draw the witchcraft circle. That was what magic was after all, an equivalent exchange, and what could be a better exchange than one's own life force.
Considering I gained one point of HP every level, it was quite something. But there were ways to compensate for that, of course, the lost HP would never return since my health was connected to the system, and once lost from the system, there was no way to gain it back. Or at least I didn't know of one.
Once done, I sat in the middle, around me a circle of corpses reaching around two meters in height. More could have been better, but I had something to compensate for that after all.
I placed the four blood crystals before me and began to chant. My blood that was used to draw the runes and the circle began to light up, glow, and then glow to an unprecedented brightness, which then began to burn.
However, the fire wasn't hot at all. Well, it was, but I could feel none of it. After all, it was the fire from my essence; it couldn't harm me. On that note, I could have just added pure fire essence to a mana container.
But then, the fire's origin wouldn't have been mine, and it would have melted me who was in the middle of it. See the logic?
Anyway, once the fire pillar of about ten meters arose, it began to purify everything within the circle, with me being the exception because I was already purified as hell thanks to the awakening of the system.
The entire process lasted for about ten minutes before everything just ended abruptly, and before me was a floating orb, the size of a tennis ball, blood red in color.
I grabbed it, and it reacted to my touch. It was bonded to me after all.
[Pure Blood crystal]
[Rank: Undetermined]
[Description: A blood crystal without all the flaws and nothing but advantages
The fire of purification has washed away all negative aspects and has enhanced the positive gains using the remnants of the essence of impurities
With the addition of the user's blood, not only is the item bonded to the user, but it is also tailored to the needs of the user]
[Effect:
#1: MP+ 1,000,000
#2: Blood Control +50%
#3: Resistance to blood control -50%]
[Limited to the user]
Now it was as overpowered as it sounded. But was it enough? Of course it wasn't.
What would I do with a million mana points right now? A million mana points couldn't awaken my son. Like so, the blood control and resistance were useless as well. Only the royal vampires possessed that ability, and even if I were to encounter them, I could still resist them, although not as easily, but still, it wasn't a difficult task for me.
You see, this crystal had the purest power in the world, although a little less than I would have liked, but it still gained a significant amount. And it wasn't replenishable but the permanent one, which was about ten times more precious than the ones that weren't.
For example, I could have gained the same amount of mana if I were to use a mana container of a higher rank. But would a mana container of a higher rank permanently increase my mana?
No, it would not.
Hence why this orb in my hand was so precious.
My goal, in the end, was to create a dragon heart, or something with similar effects.
And now, I had something like that in my hands. Now what I needed was a few more of these, maybe two more, and the skill rank of my creation skill to be SS at the very least.
Granted, making another one wouldn't be so easy. I needed at least ten B rank awakened to make this one. Even if I were to use the entire town's population, which I wasn't going to because I wasn't a maniac, I still wouldn't be able to make this one.
Either I needed an A rank awakened, or ten more B ranks to make this. Not possible in this town any longer.
So, perhaps now, it was a good time to move on to a higher-ranked city. And I had the perfect city in mind.
~~
I arrived home only to find everyone asleep. Since the men were out overnight, I was alone with the women of the house. Although the former lord of the city had asked me to stay at his residence in his absence, I had a feeling his orders were no longer applicable.
And since Zara had already excused me for the night, I decided to have some fun at home. It was well past two in the morning, and dawn was just two hours or less away.
I went to the parents' room to find Rayla sleeping peacefully. As much as I wanted to wake her up and have some fun with her, I felt like I had been neglecting the sisters ever since we returned from the forest.
I sighed and made my way to their room to find them sleeping on the same bed. Since this house had only four bedrooms, either Lucas and I or the sisters had to share one. Since I was the sole breadwinner of this house, I was given the biggest room after the parents, and Lucas was given the smallest one, while the sisters got the last but the middle one.
I smiled and entered the room to disturb their sleep to celebrate my good mood.
I was now just a few steps away from awakening my son.
