Chapter 298: Chapter 231 You Platform Gazing at You Platform

Yu Huaijin, with hands clasped behind his back, stood outside the courtyard gate, watching the retreating figures of Zhao Rong and his wife, Lingfei, as they left together, silently without a word.

Even though she had only recently arrived at Du You City in Wangque State, for certain reasons, Yu Huaijin was quite familiar with the affairs of the Taiching Four Mansions of Wangque.

For instance, there was a female Sword Cultivator with a teardrop mole under the left eye, who was not overly challenged by the Seventh Realm of Tranquility, and who could rank among the top even within the Four Mansions of Taiching.

In her line of sight, this female Sword Cultivator, whose name she had heard mentioned by someone a long time ago, was carrying a food container filled with porridge and following closely behind Zhao Ziyu, who had no love for wearing student robes.

At one moment, the woman lowered her head slightly and cautiously reached out to tug at the corner of Zhao Ziyu’s robe, seemingly smoothing out the creases, but in the next second, her hand was captured by Zhao Ziyu’s returning grip. She struggled twice but could not break free, so she lowered her head and stayed quiet for a few breaths before stealthily stepping forward to press against him. Their fingers intertwined, and they walked away hand in hand.

Yu Huaijin’s gaze stayed fixed on Lingfei until she and Zhao Rong disappeared around the corner of the shady path, then she lowered her eyelids slightly and retracted her gaze.

She glanced down at her damp sleeve, then turned her head and bowed respectfully to Li Jinsu, who had also been watching Zhao Rong and company depart.

"Brother Li."

Li Jinsu returned the bow with a warm smile, "Sister Lingfei and Ziyu are in harmonious union, like a phoenix matched with a luan bird, and share a deep affinity of the sword. Their temperaments are like those of many Sword Cultivators—straightforward, direct, and pure-hearted. Earlier, when she first entered, Lingfei misunderstood you, Sister Yu, and acted rashly. I hope you bear no grudge."

"You worry too much, Brother Li—I’ve already clearly explained it and naturally hold no grudge," Yu Huaijin replied calmly.

Li Jinsu glanced at her expression, nodded, chatted amiably for a few more moments, then turned and departed. Having accompanied Sister Lingfei today, he was able to avoid attending that noisy gathering, a mundane affair, and considering that it involved his junior brother, he presumed the Teacher wouldn’t blame him, and he could now read quietly in his room...

Yu Huaijin returned to the courtyard and saw Fan Yushu sneaking a glance from behind a pile of books. She stood in front of the stone table, watching Fan Yushu and pondered for a moment.

Seeing this, Fan Yushu straightened his back, his eyes filled with hopeful anticipation.

Yu Huaijin looked at him seriously, "Have you had any ladies come to visit you?"

"..."

Fan Yushu felt as though he’d been struck by a ton of bricks, his face the picture of utter dejection.

This was no way to live.

...

A stick of incense later.

After assigning the upcoming studies to Fan Yushu, who was "studying for the rise of Shuaixing Hall," Yu Huaijin also carried a food container as she left the East Fence Small House.

She left Nanxuan Academy, passed the Fountain Pavilion, and headed southeast toward Linlu Academy.

Along the way, she encountered many students from Mochi Academy, yet aside from those of Shuaixing Hall, hardly anyone greeted Yu Huaijin, even though she was known by all students of the Six Halls.

According to the customs of the Academy, when fellow students met on the road, even if they were just acquaintances, they would usually greet each other with a "Brother" or "Sister."

"Huaijin."

A loud female voice called out.

Yu Huaijin, who was walking silently with her food container, turned around upon hearing her name.

The tall Xiao Hongyu, accompanied by the slender Li Xueyou, bounded energetically up to Yu Huaijin.

Yu Huaijin stepped back and bowed in response.

Xiao Hongyu and Li Xue, who had spent some time with Yu Huaijin, were used to her insistence on observing proper etiquette even just for a greeting on the road, and having grown accustomed to it, they patiently reciprocated.

They both bowed as well.

Xiao Hongyu stood straight, her lips spreading wide with a big smile, "Huaijin, where are you going? If you’re free today, why not leave the tutoring for Fan Yushu aside? Come on, let’s go have fun in the city."

Yu Huaijin frowned slightly, "Hongyu, compose yourself!"

"Oh," Xiao Hongyu quickly covered her mouth, brewed a moment, then uncovered it again.

Her big smile was puckered into a "smile without showing teeth," resembling a cherry-like pout.

Trying to keep a straight face, Xiao Hongyu ended up making a rather awkward and contrived expression. She pouted and asked, "Huaijin, is this better?"

"Pfft." The always quiet Li Xue couldn’t help but chuckle at her companion’s antics.

Yu Huaijin maintained her stoic expression, though her sharp eyes softened ever so slightly and imperceptibly beneath her stern brows.

She pressed her lips together and shook her head, "No, I’m off to see Teacher Zhu, and later I need to return to the East Fence Small House."

Xiao Hongyu was taken aback for a moment, "East Fence Small House?"

"Yes, it’s the residence of Brother Teng Ying and Brother Zhao."

"Isn’t that just a vegetable garden?" Xiao Hongyu muttered under her breath, then aware of Yu Huaijin’s glance, she halted and quickly changed the subject, "I haven’t seen Teacher Zhu for a good half a month, but there will be her lesson tomorrow, so we can properly play... ahem, study."

Li Xue nodded.

Xiao Hongyu smiled, "Then we won’t disturb you anymore, Huaijin. Snow and I will go ahead. It’s your day off, and while you may tutor the others, don’t overexert yourself—take some time to relax."

Yu Huaijin lowered her gaze, nodding slightly, yet she still reminded them, "Don’t stay out too late, come back early to rest. Tomorrow has many classes and the first one is at dawn."

"We know." Xiao Hongyu and Li Xue replied with a smile.

Yu Huaijin watched the two depart.

She stood silently for a moment before suddenly turning to take a slightly different path from the most direct route to Yilan Pavilion where the Teacher lived.

Yu Huaijin carried her food container northward into a bamboo forest where leaves had turned yellow with the season. Her posture dignified and footsteps steady, she walked quietly along the secluded stone path lined with narrow bamboo leaves, ascending the hill.
