My Vampire Beloved Husband -
Chapter 33: Being Petty
Chapter 33: Being Petty
Naomi froze. She hadn’t expected him to say that. The way he’d spoken earlier had made her think otherwise. He had seemed so distant, so aloof, and yet his words now shattered all her assumptions. She didn’t want to—No, she realized now she might have acted a bit petty. How had she let something so small feel so significant, to the point where she’d started ignoring him?
Her heart hammered in her chest, and she felt the weight of her behavior pressing down on her. She was trying avoiding him, unable to understand why she felt so distant. Was it because of the tension between them? Or perhaps her own insecurities? Naomi shook her head internally. She had let her emotions get the better of her, but how had something so small, so seemingly insignificant, gotten in the way of everything else?
"That’s... that’s not why I... I wasn’t ignoring you," she managed to say, her voice shaky. The closeness between them was overwhelming, and her thoughts scattered as her heart raced in her chest. He stood so near to her that every breath she took felt intertwined with his. She suddenly felt so aware of every little detail—his presence, his scent, his touch on her chin as he gently lifted her gaze to meet his.
Suddenly, in one fluid motion, Zylan closed the distance between them, pressing his lips to hers. Naomi’s mind went blank. What kind of kiss was this? She had never been kissed like this before. Wait—was this an upside-down kiss? Her thoughts spun in confusion, and she felt her head swimming. Everything she had been feeling, all the doubts and insecurities, faded away in an instant, replaced by the strange, intoxicating feeling of his kiss.
Her mind raced, trying to understand the situation, but her body reacted on its own. She found herself holding his face, her fingers gently tracing his jawline as she pressed deeper into the kiss. It wasn’t deliberate, but the moment felt too powerful to resist. She had never felt anything like it before, and before she knew it, the kiss deepened even more, as though it had a life of its own.
Zylan pulled away slightly, his lips curving into a smirk. "My little eaglet is getting bolder by the second," he said, his voice low and teasing. Naomi’s cheeks flushed a deep crimson. She hadn’t expected him to say that, but then again, she hadn’t expected any of this.
Naomi’s mind reeled, and for a moment, she forgot what they were even talking about. Her heartbeat pounded in her ears, and she tried to compose herself, unsure of what had just transpired between them. She had kissed him, and he had kissed her back. But what did it all mean? Was it just a fleeting moment of passion, or was there something more to it?
Her thoughts were interrupted when she heard Zylan speak again, and his voice pulled her back to the present.
"Do you want to come outside?" he asked, a playful glint in his eyes. Naomi blinked, her mind trying to catch up to the conversation.
Wait—could she? She hadn’t expected him to ask. Was this really happening? Could she actually step outside? For a moment, the excitement swelled within her, but she bit her lip in an attempt to hide her excitement. Zylan’s gaze never wavered, and in that moment, she realized that it must have appeared as though she was fighting to contain a smile. She nodded, her heart fluttering in her chest, and he turned toward the large, see-through window where she had been earlier.
Without a word, Zylan pressed a button, and the glass began to slide open with a soft hum. Naomi’s breath caught in her throat. What? She thought it was fixed. Was it possible that this was how it worked? even if she spends days here, she was sure she would never fully understanding how this place operated, and now everything seemed to be shifting, revealing a new layer she hadn’t yet discovered.
At this point, nothing about this place should surprise her anymore. The ship—or whatever this was—was more like a grand vessel, a luxurious palace floating on the water. The walls, the furniture, the technology... everything about this place felt out of place yet somehow familiar. Naomi could never have imagined living in a place like this, and yet here she was, standing at the edge of it all.
As the door slid open, a rush of cool, fresh air swept into the room. The soft, soothing sound of the waves crashing against the ship’s hull filled her ears, and for the first time in what felt like forever, Naomi felt a sense of peace. The cool breeze tousled her hair, and she walked over to the railing, leaning against it as she let the wind play with her locks. The sensation of the ocean air on her skin was both calming and exhilarating. She couldn’t help but laugh. The sound of her giggles echoed into the night, a bright contrast to the otherwise quiet atmosphere.
She had never felt so free, so alive. The joy that bubbled up inside her was contagious, and her laughter was filled with the purest sense of happiness. Naomi had always been trapped within the confines of her own fears and insecurities, but in this moment, she felt the weight of her worries lift away. For the first time in what felt like years, she felt like she could breathe.
Little did she know, Zylan had been watching her the entire time. He stood just inside the open door, his gaze fixed on her. There was a strange expression on his face—curious, but almost unreadable. He was fascinated by her, but for reasons he couldn’t quite explain. What was it about her that made her so different from everyone else? Her laughter, her innocence, her ability to embrace the moment without hesitation... it captivated him more than he cared to admit.
Zylan’s expression calm as he watched her, his sharp eyes observing her with something that bordered on..... was it...admiration.
Naomi seemed to have an effortless joy about her, a carefree happiness that he hadn’t expected from her. She wasn’t like the others—like the people he had known before. She was different. And in that difference, something about her intrigued him. He found himself wanting to know more, to understand what made her tick, what made her laugh like that.
He stood there for a moment, just watching her, his unreadable expression hiding any hint of what he was truly thinking. Naomi’s laughter filled the air, and for a moment, it seemed as though the world had faded away. It was just her, and the sound of her joy, echoing into the night.
Then, as if sensing his gaze, Naomi turned to him. Her eyes met his, and she spoke his name—"Zylan"—with such soft, melodic grace that had taken him aback. The way it rolled off her tongue made him want to hear it again and again. There was something about the way she said his name that felt... different, almost magical.
He took a few slow steps toward her, his gaze never leaving hers. She smiled, a hint of mischief in her eyes, and with a playful motion, she signaled for him to come closer. Zylan obliged, his movements deliberate but casual. He walked toward her with the same calm demeanor he always had, but this time, there was something more to it. He couldn’t quite place it, but the connection between them felt stronger, more palpable than before.
"What are you thinking about?" she asked, her voice light, but with a trace of curiosity.
Zylan chuckled softly, a low, rumbling sound that seemed to resonate through the air. "I was just admiring the view," he replied, his eyes still fixed on her. "You."
Her cheeks flushed a soft pink in surprise. She hadn’t expected that. Naomi had always wondered how Zylan felt about her, but she couldn’t ever bring herself to ask directly. The way he looked at her now, though, made her heart race. Was this how he flirted with others? Zylan didn’t seem like the type, but then again, looks could be deceiving. Naomi had learned that much over the years—never judge someone based on appearances alone.
"That’s not what I meant," she said, her voice low as she struggled to regain her composure. "I mean, do you... enjoy the view?" She gestured toward the vast expanse of the ocean, hoping to redirect the conversation. She wanted to know if he truly appreciated the beauty around them, or if he was simply lost in his thoughts.
Zylan, however, remained focused on her, nodding slightly, his gaze calm and unreadable. The way he looked at her made her heart race in a different way now, a feeling that bordered on something more than just attraction. There was something deeper in his eyes, something she couldn’t quite decipher. His gaze held her captive, and for a moment, she forgot everything else around her.
"Let’s go back inside," Naomi said softly, turning her face away to hide the smile that tugged at her lips. She quickly made her way toward the room, trying to steady her breathing as she walked. Her heart was still pounding from the intensity of their exchange.
Just then, she heard the soft ping of the doorbell. It chimed once, and for a moment, Naomi wondered if she had imagined it.
Moving to press the green button, she hesitated for a moment, sensing a change in the atmosphere around her.
"You can open it," Zylan said, his voice calm yet authoritative.
Naomi nodded, feeling a mix of anticipation and uncertainty. Had Zylan changed somehow, or was she simply overthinking things? She pressed the button, and the door opened to reveal two people in uniforms holding different boxes.
"We apologize for the interruption," the male said, his voice friendly.
Naomi offered a warm smile, which seemed to ease their tension slightly. However, Zylan, standing just behind her, looked slightly displeased, his cold, unreadable gaze making the delivery staff tremble.
"We brought games," the male added, his enthusiasm evident.
"Not interested," Zylan interrupted, his uninterested tone leaving no room for discussion.
"Wait..." Naomi interjected, pointing at a particular box that caught her eye. "I want us to play that." She turned to Zylan, hoping to gauge his reaction. He simply nodded, his stoic expression revealing nothing of his thoughts.
"Thank you, Mrs. Naomi," the male said, a hint of relief in his voice as he saw her enthusiasm.
However, Zylan didn’t like the way she was giving her attention to them. "You may leave," he said coldly, and the door closed with a soft click behind the staff.
Naomi felt a rush of excitement mixed with nervousness. She had heard about this game but had never actually participated in it. She wanted to play and experience it for herself, hoping it would give her a glimpse into the mind of her mysterious husband.
"Eaglet, what’s that?" Zylan asked in a quiet tone, curiosity lacing his voice.
"Truth or Dare," she replied, her heart fluttering at the thought of the game.
