Chapter 106: The Eaglet’s Choice

Chapter 106: The Eaglet’s Choice

Naomi’s eyes widened as she froze in Zylan’s arms, her legs still wrapped around his waist. Realizing how intimate and awkward their position was—especially with Rylan there—her face flushed an even deeper red. She began to wriggle, trying to loosen herself, though a spark of excitement bubbled within her at the mention of the Eaglets’ arrival.

Meanwhile, Rylan scratched the back of his head, turning his face to the side, avoiding eye contact with both his boss and his boss’s wife.

"You may go," Zylan said calmly.

Rylan sighed in relief. Who knew his boss could be so gentle and soft? He shook his head, still surprised by what he had just witnessed. Zylan, noticing Naomi’s attempt to free herself, frowned slightly.

"You can let go now," Naomi said, her voice shy yet firm.

But Zylan shook his head. "Not yet, Eaglet," he teased. His tone was steady but playful, and he glanced at her, his eyes gleaming. "Do you want to see the Eaglet?"

Naomi’s head moved in an eager nod before she quickly recomposed herself, aware that showing too much excitement might provoke Zylan to....

"Yes," she replied, forcing a calm demeanor.

Zylan smirked knowingly. "It seems you’re getting too excited," he teased, his voice laced with a hint of amusement.

"No, no, I’m not," Naomi blurted quickly, shaking her head. "Of course, it’s normal for the owner to want to check if their pet matches the description. We don’t even know if they swapped the last one we saw, maybe for advertisement purposes. It’s important to make sure our Eaglet is strong and healthy," she added, rambling to cover her enthusiasm.

Zylan watched her, a smile tugging at his lips. Her nervousness was endearing. Finally, he set her on her feet with a gentle motion.

"Let’s go," he said, the air between them lighter now.

As they walked towards the entrance, Naomi struggled to keep up with his long strides. "Are we going to see the Eaglets now?" she asked, her voice laced with hope.

Zylan shook his head, his expression unreadable. "No, we’re going to meet your parents."

Her heart sank momentarily, but she masked her disappointment. She didn’t want to sound too eager, even though she felt like giggling and jumping with excitement inside hearing that the Eaglet had arrived. "When we’re back, we’ll see the Eaglets," Zylan reassured her.

They continued walking in silence for a few moments before Zylan suddenly stopped and turned toward her. Their gazes locked, a flicker of something unreadable passing between them.

"So tell me, darling," Zylan said, his voice low and almost teasing. "Do you want to see the Eaglet now?"

Naomi pouted slightly, turning her face to the side. "Of course, who wouldn’t want to see their new pets?" she muttered, trying to keep her tone neutral.

Zylan chuckled. "Nice try, Eaglets. You’re making your point without sounding desperate, huh?"

Naomi smiled shyly, lowering her gaze. Zylan led her toward the garden, the soft sound of their footsteps on the gravel path echoing in the still air. When they reached the outdoor seating area, she noticed the cage of the tiny, adorable Eaglets placed on a small tea table. Her heart leaped with joy as she stepped closer, marveling at the little creatures she had been so eager to see.

As they reached the cute pink cage, Naomi realized that everything was exactly the same as when they had last seen it. A huge wave of relief washed over her. The Eaglet inside looked as healthy and energetic as ever, its soft feathers gleaming in the sunlight.

Naomi bent down slightly, peering at the eaglet. The bird turned its head to look at her, tilting it to the side as if wondering who she was. Naomi smiled, giggling softly, and tilted her head in return. The eaglet mirrored her movements, tilting its head to the other side. Naomi giggled again, repeating the motion, and the eaglet followed suit. Soon, she was laughing out loud, her laughter soft and delicate.

Zylan stood there, utterly stunned. He couldn’t believe it—Naomi’s laughter, so pure and joyful, was all because of the eaglet. He was speechless. She was perfect, elegant in everything she did, and here she was, laughing like a little girl over a bird. He found himself silently wishing he could make her laugh like that. Yet, it was the eaglet who had done it in just a few minutes.

Shaking his head, Zylan spoke, his voice surprisingly soft. "That’s enough, Naomi. Let’s go."

It wasn’t that he wasn’t happy to see her laugh; in fact, it left him speechless. But the fact that it was over a bird... he didn’t know what to say. Naomi turned to him, pouting slightly.

"Come on, come on, the eaglet wants you to say hi," she urged playfully.

Zylan froze, unsure of what she meant. Could she hear the eaglet? Was that even possible? His mind raced as he moved closer, his body stiff with hesitation. Naomi shook him playfully. "Don’t be so stiff, come on. Tell the eaglet hi." She gestured for him to do the same as she had.

With a reluctant sigh, Zylan mimicked Naomi’s actions, but his face remained stiff. To his surprise, the eaglet tilted its head toward him, as if acknowledging him. Naomi laughed. "See? He says you’re welcome."

Zylan turned to her, his face still stiff as he muttered, "He."

Naomi beamed. "Yes, it’s a male’" she spoke, a playful glint in her eyes.

Zylan shook his head, his once almost there smile disappearing into a frown. He reached for her hand and led her toward the car. "Let’s go. It’s getting late."

Naomi glanced up at him, surprised by his sudden change in demeanor. "Why the rush?"

"The eaglet needs to be changed," Zylan said casually, his tone matter-of-fact.

Naomi stopped in her tracks. "Wait, what? Why?"

Zylan’s tone shifted to something more serious. "We’re changing the eaglet to a female."

Naomi’s jaw dropped. Was he not happy because the eaglet was a male? Was this really happening? She stared at him, her eyes wide with disbelief. "No, Zylan. I really like this eaglet."

He didn’t answer as he got into the car. Naomi followed, sitting beside him. She waited until the door shut before she turned to him, her voice serious. "Zylan, you’re joking, right?"

Zylan was surprised by her seriousness. He looked at her, his expression unreadable. "I’m not," he said, his tone firm.

Naomi’s voice softened. "Please don’t. It doesn’t matter if it’s a male or female. It’s our pet, and it’s so, so cute. I promise I’ll behave. I’ll do anything you want. Please, don’t change the eaglet."

Zylan stared at her, stunned. He couldn’t believe it—she was actually pleading for the bird. She had some kind of spell over him, because right now, he couldn’t trust himself to be strict with her. He didn’t know how to respond.

He turned his face away, his thoughts racing. "I’ve made my choice," he said softly.

Naomi crossed her arms, her voice quiet but determined. "Fine. Then go ahead. Sell it."

She turned her head to the window, silent and upset.

After a long pause, Zylan finally spoke, his voice soft. "Fine. You can keep the eaglet."

Naomi’s head snapped toward him, her eyes wide with surprise. "Really?" she asked, her voice filled with disbelief. Zylan simply nodded, as if to say she could keep it.

Before he could react, Naomi pulled herself closer and wrapped her arms around his neck, hugging him tightly. She pressed a soft peck to his cheek and whispered, "Thank you so much. Thank you so much, Zylan. I promise to do anything you want."

Zylan blinked, taken aback. "Anything?"

Naomi nodded enthusiastically, her smile radiant.

Zylan couldn’t believe it. This girl—his wife—had somehow used her magic or whatever spell she had cast on him to make him do exactly what she wanted. He shook his head in disbelief as he held her, still not fully understanding how she had such an effect on him.

Naomi hugged him again, as if to say her thank-you wasn’t complete without one more squeeze.

And in that moment, Zylan couldn’t help but think: This wife of his would be the death of him.

Naomi finally pulled away, her eyes gleaming with joy. She adjusted herself in her seat and turned to him with a determined expression. "So tell me, what do you want?" she asked eagerly, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.

Zylan’s face turned serious. Who would have thought? That this bird, this simple little creature, would bring him to the point where he was about to say something he had feared saying for a long time now.

"Are you sure you want this?" he asked, the seriousness in his face and tone catching her off-guard just a bit. But Naomi stood her ground, her voice unwavering.

"I’m more sure than a pilot about to take off," she said confidently.

Zylan couldn’t believe this wife of his. She had him wrapped around her finger, and he was more aware of it than ever before.

"Fine then," he muttered. "Let’s never have a divorce."
