Chapter 80: Novice Champion Rewards
Chapter 80: Novice Champion Rewards
His eyes sharpened.
The first was a set of armour, mounted on the wall at the left side of the table.
It was pitch black with dimly glowing blue lines running down the sides of the chest, shoulders and thighs.
’An armour set.’ Riley thought, his eyes shining in excitement.
He placed one hand on the chest piece, feeling its smooth texture, and a tab displaying more information about it appeared in front of him.
[Champion Armour Set (Rare)]
[Description: An armour set crafted by the best blacksmiths of the novice village, meant to be given to the champion who defeats the village boss. When equipped, Strength is boosted by 20%, and all other attributes by 15%. Automatically reflects damage below 500, and grants a 10% boost in attack damage.]
A second window appeared underneath:
[Do you want to equip ’Champion Armour Set’?]
[Yes/No]
Riley barely hesitated.
"Yes," he muttered, nodding once.
The armour immediately vanished in a flash of light, reappearing as a second layer wrapped around his body.
Clink!
Clank!
All the pieces locked perfectly into place on his body within seconds.
His limbs grew heavier for a brief moment... then lighter, as if strength had poured straight into his muscles.
Riley clenched his fists, which were now covered in sleek black gauntlets, the blue lines along them pulsing softly.
’Perfect fit.’ he thought, already feeling the slight power boost from the armour coursing through his body.
’Not bad,’ he thought, a small smirk spreading across his lips.
He turned to the next item on the table.
It was laid out neatly in the centre, positioned with care between the two other rewards—as if it was the most important of all.
It looked like a scroll at first glance, but upon closer inspection, it was parchment folded with a white thread.
[Novice Village Map (Rare)]
[Description: A detailed, interactive map of the entire Novice Village and its surrounding regions. Bound to the user on pickup. Synchronises with the system minimap.]
Riley raised an eyebrow.
’A map?’ he thought, a bit surprised at the reward.
He leaned forward slightly, his eyes narrowing slightly.
He then picked up the map, and a notification appeared before him.
[Do you want to equip ’Novice Village Map’?]
[Yes/No]
’Yes.’
The parchment immediately vanished from his hand, and a new holographic panel appeared before him, displaying an aerial view of the novice village.
It was well-detailed, showing all the buildings, forests and even the paths between them.
The location of different secret areas was also displayed, however, they had all been completed.
That was another disadvantage of not being a beta player, which was missing out on secret areas.
Fortunately, he had knowledge from his past life, so he was able to discover one the beta players hadn’t explored yet.
Some parts of the map were glowing green, indicating that he hadn’t explored them yet.
[78% Completed]
Nonetheless, it didn’t matter that he hadn’t explored all parts of the novice village, since he had already done all he had to do.
He chuckled, turning towards the third and final item on the table.
It was a bracelet—sleek and black, with soft blue lines running around its surface.
[Champion’s Bracelet (Rare)]
[Description: A bracelet forged by the best blacksmiths of the novice village to be handed over to the champion who defeated the village boss. When equipped, boosts mana by 15% and slightly improves mana regeneration speed.]
’Even the design matches the armour set,’ Riley thought, picking up the armour.
[Do you want to equip ’Champion’s Bracelet’?]
[Yes/No]
"Yes," he said quietly, nodding.
The bracelet vanished from his hand in a flash of light, then instantly reappeared, now clamped around his right wrist, over the gauntlet.
It blended seamlessly into the armour, almost as if it was designed to be worn together.
Riley flexed his wrist slowly, admiring how comfortable the armour felt on him.
The black of the gauntlet flowed into the bracelet’s surface naturally, and the faint blue glow pulsing from both made the set look even more refined.
"Good," he muttered, nodding in satisfaction.
But just then—
"GET HIM!" a loud voice echoed from outside the castle.
"We’ll find the person who killed our chief... and MAKE HIM SUFFER!"
Another voice shouted immediately after.
"I’m sure it’s one of those stupid players!!"
Dozens more voices followed, each growing louder and louder as the sound of heavy food steps drew nearer to the chief’s castle.
Riley turned slightly, chuckling to himself.
"Ohh," he said softly, his eyes flashing with amusement. "They’re finally here."
The village guards had finally realised their chief was dead, and now, they wanted revenge.
"Good luck with that," Riley muttered, glancing down at the new armour that clung to his body like a second skin.
The blue lines glowed faintly across his chest, shoulders, wrists and thighs, reflecting the soft lighting in the room.
He touched the side of his gauntlet once more and nodded, pleased.
Even though all the rewards were only Rare-grade, they were still quite valuable for this early stage in the game.
And more importantly, he had taken all three.
Normally, the novice champion was only allowed to pick one of the rewards.
After defeating the village boss, they’d be told to go to the castle and show the coin—the same one the scorpion had dropped earlier.
Once they arrived, the chief would smile, congratulate them, and then ask them to cast lots—a random selection between the three reward options.
They wouldn’t be told the rewards, nor would they be able to see their description.
It would all depend on pure chance. And depending on their luck, they might end up with the armour, the bracelet, or the map.
That was it, no second chances.
But Riley... he had changed that.
By killing the guards, and even the chief, he had broken the normal rules of the game, giving him the chance the claim all three.
He glanced back at the table one last time, now empty.
Outside, the enraged guards were getting closer by the second.
Riley slowly turned toward the door again, his smirk widening.
"Guess it’s time to go."
