My SSS-Rank Dungeon: Reborn In A Reverse World -
Chapter 8: I Will Find You!
Chapter 8: I Will Find You!
There were a few reasons Leon chose to follow his plan to hide and wait for the Crimson Rabbits to fall for the bait. The first was obvious, baiting the monsters and hunting them while they were distracted.
It provided him the best opportunity, after all.
The second reason was that he didn’t want to wander around too much in case he encountered the monster who had killed him last time. His current goal was simple, survive as long as he could.
Which brought him to the third point, he wanted to see if the Dungeon would kick him out after a certain amount of time passed or if death was the only way to escape this hell.
So, he lay on the soft grass while gazing at the gray clouds drifting lazily across the sky. It made him wonder if he could ever attain such freedom in this world.
It was also then that he noticed something peculiar about the dungeon.
’I can’t sleep here. Fuck.’
He had thought that maybe repeating the action he used to enter the Dungeon—sleep—would allow him to return to the outside world.
But that didn’t seem to be the case.
The atmosphere was so serene and peaceful that anyone would want to sleep here. Even with the danger around him, Leon was sure he could have drifted off under normal circumstances.
Yet, not even a hint of drowsiness touched his mind.
It startled him, though he had half-expected this outcome. Nothing in this place was going to be easy.
’I’ll just have to wait.’
As he mulled over his thoughts, he suddenly heard faint tremors. The sounds were nearly imperceptible, but he was close to the ground and his enhanced physique allowed him to pick them up clearly.
He rolled onto his belly and raised his head slightly from the grass to peer in the direction of the sound.
’As expected, the blood definitely attracts them.’
A Crimson Rabbit was sprinting toward the corpse of the earlier monster, its speed startling even Leon. Still, he followed the rabbit’s figure silently.
He didn’t strike immediately and waited patiently for the perfect moment. This one looked stronger than the previous rabbits, and Leon didn’t want to take any unnecessary risks.
Seconds ticked by as the rabbit began munching on the bloody remains. It seemed these bloodthirsty things didn’t care what they ate, as long as it was edible.
Its jaws opened and closed rhythmically, exposing its fangs, the one true weakness of these monsters.
Crimson Rabbits had thick hides, making them tough to injure with conventional weapons.
But their own fangs ignored their defenses and could deliver fatal internal damage. Sadly, the fangs didn’t work on other type of monsters.
It was an odd design, but it had worked well in the game.
Leon had never expected it to work in reality too, but back then he didn’t have time to question his decisions.
Surprisingly, it worked just fine.
’Seems like not all rules of the Dungeon I made have changed.’
Leon assessed the scene and judged the timing right. The rabbit was too engrossed in its meal to care about its surroundings.
’Now!’
With a burst of [Sprint Boost], Leon darted toward the rabbit. There wasn’t much distance between them to begin with, so he reached it in no time, catching it completely off guard.
Not wasting the chance, he drove his fist straight into the base of its fang. His skin shimmered with a metallic sheen as the blow struck the soft tissue with surgical precision.
With his other hand, he used the sword to slice through its base.
’I won’t repeat the same mistake.’
He didn’t waste time trying to catch the fang this time and let it drop naturally, ducking low to avoid the monster’s retaliatory pincer attack.
GARHHHHH!!!
The rabbit roared in fury and raised its claws to rip him apart, but Leon had already snatched up the fang.
With swift reflexes even he didn’t know he possessed, he dodged the incoming swipe and slammed the fang into its belly.
The rabbit howled once before vanishing into particles of light.
’Would’ve been so much better if this system had a kill count announcement. Hearing that feels so satisfying.’
Leon chuckled and looked down, waiting for the familiar Energy Orb to form.
It only took a second before it appeared, floating gently above the grass.
He rubbed his sore arm and bent down to pick it up, only to pause as something enormous cast a shadow over him, blotting out the sunlight.
Alarms screamed in his mind as he willed his body to roll away.
He begged every fiber of his being to escape from whatever had crept up behind him.
But it was all in vain.
A massive force came crashing down on him, flattening his skull in an instant.
—
"AGHHHHHHHH!!!"
Leon’s screams echoed through his dorm room as he writhed in his bed. His brain was overwhelmed with the agony of having his head crushed like overripe fruit.
Normally, the body would die quickly and end the suffering, but not in his case.
He didn’t die.
All he could do was endure or lose his mind.
And between the two, Leon would always choose the pain.
The torment lasted a few excruciating seconds, each one feeling like an eternity, before the pain finally ebbed.
Leon lay sprawled across his bed, breathless and drenched in sweat, his eyes bloodshot and body twitching.
But then...he grinned.
A twisted, grim grin.
"I’ll find you, bastard. And when I do... you’ll regret ever being born. You’ll curse the being that reincarnated me. Just wait."
Normally, Leon was a pretty chill guy—focused more on goals, curiosity, and calculated decisions.
But there was a trait of his that not many people knew about.
And the few who did... never wanted to be on his bad side.
Leon was petty.
Petty and vindictive to the core.
If someone crossed his line, he wouldn’t rest until he got his revenge. Even if it took years.
And that monster... had just crossed it.
