My SSS-Rank Dungeon: Reborn In A Reverse World -
Chapter 27: Hinata
Chapter 27: Hinata
Leon wanted to talk more with his mother, but there were classes, so he had to hang up the call. Still, a single call from his mother put his mood back up, and he was ready to face the world again.
Since it was already late for breakfast, he headed directly towards the classroom. A few of his acquaintances came over to comfort him, as everyone in the Academy had already heard about Silver.
It wasn’t a surprise considering she was one of the most promising students among the new batch, and she was also friends with him—the man who broke the world record of achieving Level 07 the fastest.
Yes, that news had also spread around, and many had begun to look at him in a new light and thought of befriending him. He was already quite famous previously, but it was different this time.
So, he wasn’t surprised to see so many people trying to get close to him, especially women who seemed to have found a new target for their husband list.
Leon didn’t really have a cold personality, so he greeted them all with a smile, which made his appeal even stronger.
Realizing the situation he was in, Leon sneaked into an alley before running towards the classroom. If he got late, Amber would deep fry him.
As he was running between the gaps of buildings, he didn’t find anyone, as other classes had already started, so he also didn’t care to slow down.
But as if the heavens were against him, someone came before him from the side. He tried to stop, but his momentum still carried him forward.
Fortunately, his reaction had gotten better because of the dungeon, so he managed to shift himself to the side and got slammed against the hard wall.
It also scared the girl who was in the way. She screamed, dropped the books she was carrying, and fell on her butt. Her eyes hidden behind thick-rimmed glasses showed panic as her puffy cheeks swelled up.
Leon rubbed his forehead where he had hit the wall and turned towards the girl, finding her quite familiar. That familiarity came from the game, which surprised him since he didn’t think he’d recognize her.
’Oh wait! It’s her!’ Leon’s eyes flashed in understanding as he stared at the rather fat girl with her features hidden behind layers of fat and also a dull look. Her hair was also tied in twin tails.
If he had to describe her, it would be the girl version of what the internet called a fat loser nerd boy. Of course, he knew very well that this girl was far from being a loser or a nerd.
She just lacked self-confidence and had severe inferiority complex.
He smiled and approached her. "Hey, Hinata, sorry about that. I was just running for my classes."
"A-Ah! It’s fine! It was my fault!" The girl named Hinata panicked upon seeing his actions and quickly tried to gather the books fallen on the ground. "I’m sorry. It was my fault. I should have been looking at where I was going."
Leon really felt bad for this girl and began helping her, which surprised her—or to be more precise, shocked her. Especially the gentle gaze through which Leon looked at her.
It was the first time for her, so she couldn’t even react for a while. By then, Leon had already collected all of the books and gave them to her with a warm smile on his face.
"I’m confused though, why do you always use books when we have other mediums?" Leon asked in confusion.
"I-It helps me in f-f-focusing better," Hinata replied unconsciously, affected by his contagious smile.
"Oh, that’s good. How about we talk later? My classes are about to start," Leon said, as he moved to the side.
"Oh... I mean, please! Don’t waste time on me. And I’m again sorry for delaying you," Hinata bowed lightly.
"Don’t worry about it. I was also at fault for running recklessly, so I’m sorry for that," Leon said as he ran off again.
Hinata suddenly caught something he had said earlier and called out, "How do you know my name?"
Leon slowed down, turned back, and shouted, "What are you talking about? We were in the same batch in the Research Department. See ya in the library someday."
"See ya..." Hinata whispered in a daze, her thoughts only known to her.
On the other hand, Leon continued his run towards the classroom. He didn’t help Hinata out of pity or sympathy really. He just remembered her from the game, and she wasn’t even in the main plot.
She was just a side character in one of the side quests meant for nothing but giving EXP to the MC. He liked her character a lot because she was a true hard worker. Even under unfavorable conditions and suffering from severe inferiority complex, she worked hard to achieve her goals.
She had done that her whole own life. When the MC extended the hand filled with warmth, hope, and kindness, she didn’t hesitate to take it and work hard to overcome her weaknesses.
She just needed a slight push, and Leon planned to give her that. He didn’t consider himself a saint, far from it actually, but if he could make a person’s life better just by extending his hand for her, he didn’t mind doing that.
’Whatever. She can live a better life if she decides to take my help. I’ll do my best!’
Soon, he reached the classroom and swiftly entered it. Fortunately, he was still a few minutes early, so he didn’t miss the class.
If he was late in Amber’s class, he could only imagine the punishment...
Leon panted and looked around the classroom with seats. He turned speechless upon seeing so many heated gazes on him as if they were looking at a five-star meal.
’It seems like I underestimated the influence being a Talented man has in this society.’
He shook his head and approached the empty seat beside Denver and slumped casually on it. He glanced at Denver, who was eating a burger, and asked, "Do you have an extra?"
"Uh, sure," Denver passed one to him and said, "Also, how are you? I mean, your friend..."
Leon smiled hearing him. He clearly was concerned about his new friend, yet couldn’t ask properly. Still, it wasn’t like he completely lacked social skills.
He was just a little hesitant toward people because he focused mostly on his Cultivation.
"It’s fine. I have confidence in her and know she will come out even more powerful," Leon said, as he began to eat the cheeseburger. "That’s why I need to work even harder to match her progress."
"That’s... admirable. You’re really amazing, Brother Leon." Denver spoke with sparks of admiration in his eyes.
Leon was just going to say something when he heard a voice he didn’t really want to hear.
"Hello, little brother. Are you okay?"
