Chapter 12: Record

In the morning, the first thing that Leon did was check on his loot, and that’s when he found out that he had only managed to get one Energy Orb.

Then, he absorbed it to level up once more. The energy from the Energy Orb wasn’t enough on its own, but he still had some of the energy left over from the previous orb he had absorbed.

Both of them combined helped him reach Level 7.

But even with that, he was still the second lowest in the class. The only one below him was the other male student in the class, who was at Level 5.

However, the reason everyone was surprised was exactly because Leon was a man.

"How is that possible? He almost caught up with us?"

"A man catching up to us... impossible!"

"He must have used some kind of item or potion. There’s no way he can be at that level."

Many of them couldn’t even believe their eyes. They were among those who fancied men and treated them like trophies to be conquered.

All because they believed themselves to be far superior to men. The fact that most women were naturally above men in strength and potential only boosted their arrogance further.

Some even believed that men only existed to provide their seeds for reproduction. The sexism was at its peak, and even the government couldn’t do much about it.

They could only keep issuing more laws to protect men.

Normally, most women could clear the first Tier in their first year but struggled to level up at the same rate in Tier 2.

Because of that, most of the students were hovering between Level 11 and Level 15, with a few almost touching the peak of Tier 2.

Aside from Silver, there was only one other woman who had actually managed to step into Tier 3.

That alone spoke volumes about her talent.

Nonetheless, the fact that a man had almost caught up with their pace didn’t sit well with many of them. After all, they had the luxury to hunt Abyssal Creatures and monsters to level up, while men could mostly just sit and gather Essence.

Even getting Mana Shards was tough for men, so the Academy only provided a fixed amount to each of them. There was no way Leon could have used those to advance faster.

Besides, there were limitations to them too.

Normally, a first-year man would be around Level 3, and if they worked harder and had good talent, they might reach Level 4. That was the usual speed of Essence Cultivation, and the reason men were considered weak.

But Leon had surpassed all of them and actually reached Level 7 in just one year. His speed was almost the same as the average woman’s, which stunned them all.

Even Silver was surprised, as the last time she had asked him about his level, he told her he was Level 4. So she turned to look at her best friend, who was sitting calmly as if none of this had anything to do with him.

’Damn! He’s so handsome when he’s so nonchalant!’ Silver instantly forgot about everything and began to admire him.

Denver, who was sitting some distance away, was also surprised and turned to look at him. He had worked hard for the last one year and had almost reached Level 6.

It was a great achievement, and he had even been praised as a genius by the Vice Headmistress. But just now, he was surpassed by this man...

’Leon Walker... I didn’t think there would be another man of such calibre here,’ Denver smiled to himself. ’I hope you can continue like this. Only then can we stand against the discrimination.’

Unaware of everyone’s thoughts, Leon sat calmly as he stared at the list. ’Still at the bottom of the list. This is just straight-up pathetic. I need to work even harder.’

When he sensed others’ gazes on him, he almost rolled his eyes. They considered him some kind of genius for reaching Level 7 so quickly, but who was going to tell them that he had to die twice just to level up three times?

’It won’t happen again. I will kill that bastard for good next time.’

"Impressive! Leon Walker, you just became the first man ever to reach Level 7 in just one year," Amber said with sparkles shining in her eyes. "If you don’t lose the spirit, then you have good potential."

"I will work harder than ever, Professor," Leon replied calmly.

His attitude seemed to satisfy Amber, as she nodded and said, "Never get arrogant just because you achieved a success, even if it’s a big one. Once you do that, the world will make sure you understand the price of it."

Her smile turned cold as she continued, "I was wondering if I should take you all to the Primordial Expanse, but that means you will be in much more danger than in the dungeon."

Everyone was once again surprised by her words, as they all wondered if there was anything left that could still surprise them today.

Students of all Academies could only enter the Primordial Expanse under two conditions.

The first was if they received a Call from it, which meant they would be dragged into the other world without their consent.

The second was rather simple: only Third-Year students and above could enter the Primordial Expanse. It was way too dangerous and deadly even for them, though they had higher chances of survival.

Amber rubbed her chin in thought and whispered, "Perhaps I should talk to her about this. This class is actually better than the last one."

A smile formed on her rosy lips as she raised her head and said, "Consider this an opportunity or a punishment—I don’t care—but the top ten students who perform the best in the dungeon will come with me to the Primordial Expanse, and I will guarantee their safety."

Nobody knew how to react to that information, because as she said, it could be both an opportunity and a punishment depending on how things went in the Primordial Expanse.

That world was a place where even the strongest of humanity had fallen, so everyone was scared. But it was also a land full of opportunities—especially for women—as it was filled with harrowing monsters that gave huge chunks of EXP.

Leon narrowed his eyes and thought, ’This is bad. I didn’t think things would change right off the bat. But I should have considered it. With her personality, she would definitely do something crazy. Change of plans.’

"Alright, you can think this through later on," Amber said, her voice commanding again. "But for now, I’ll start the class. For the next five days, it’ll just be theory classes, but very important ones—so whoever misses can forget about ever coming back to my classes."
