My Son-in-law Is A War God -
Chapter 1364 - 1365: Turns Out It’s the Boss!
Chapter 1364: Chapter 1365: Turns Out It’s the Boss!
Qu Hongbo froze for a moment and instructed his subordinates to open the paper box.
A statue of Maitreya suddenly appeared in front of them.
"This! This is a glass-type green jade Maitreya!"
Qu Hongbo looked extremely surprised.
"Take a closer look at the inscription on it!"
Xiao Chen said.
Qu Hongbo examined it carefully and couldn’t help but exclaim in admiration, "It’s actually the work of the master sculptor Long Wenxin. Good, good indeed, Qingcheng, I’ve truly underestimated you.
You are indeed a good child. Back then, my affection for you wasn’t in vain."
Upon hearing Elder Qu’s words, although many people didn’t know who Long Wenxin was, they vaguely felt that he must be someone extraordinary.
"Who is Long Wenxin? Is he famous?"
At that moment, Shang Teng, acting like a buffoon, blurted out a question.
"Heh, you don’t even know who Long Wenxin is? No wonder the painting you gifted, allegedly by Master Yan Qing, turned out to be a forgery."
Xiao Chen sneered.
"You! You’re lying! How could my painting be a fake? I spent ten percent of Dashang Group’s equity to obtain it. There’s no way it’s counterfeit."
At this point, he abruptly shut his mouth, realizing he’d said too much.
Xiao Chen chuckled, "Well, that only proves your stupidity. Master Yan Qing’s Wing Chun painting is housed in America’s New York City Museum.
You all know Master Yan Qing’s character—he never creates duplicates of any painting, and all his drafts are immediately burned.
The piece in America has already been validated as authentic by experts worldwide.
What do you think yours is?"
Qu Hongbo’s face turned pale; he truly didn’t know this. The forgery was way too convincing.
"Do you have proof?"
Qu Hongbo asked.
Xiao Chen directly took out his phone and displayed several photos and videos recorded on-site.
"This! This!"
Qu Hongbo was infuriated.
He glared fiercely at Shang Teng, who was so terrified he fell off his stool onto the floor.
"Elder Qu, I didn’t know! I didn’t know! It was Qu Zhenye—Qu Zhenye deceived me. I bought this painting from him."
Qu Zhenye never expected to be sold out like this and looked utterly embarrassed.
He dropped to his knees: "Grandfather, please let me explain!"
"No need for explanations! You’ve truly let me down!"
Qu Zhenye’s misfortune brought immense delight to Qu Zhenjia and Qu Zhenjun.
With this, they had one less rival to deal with.
"Take your worthless painting!"
Qu Hongbo picked up the painting, ready to smash it into Shang Teng, but Xiao Chen intervened.
"Elder Qu, although this is a forgery and not one of Master Yan Qing’s works, it is still a rare imitation.
The artist behind the imitation is none other than Zheng Banqiao, a renowned master of the Qing dynasty. While this was one of his early, less mature works, its rarity still grants it considerable value as a collector’s item."
Xiao Chen explained.
"Oh?"
Qu Hongbo took another look at the painting; indeed, it did contain some of Zheng Banqiao’s distinctive artistry—albeit raw, it authentically reflected the growth of a master.
"What’s your name?"
Qu Hongbo turned to Xiao Chen and asked.
"Xiao Chen, husband of Xinmeng Group’s Chairwoman Jiang Meng, and the second son of Shang Qingcheng."
Xiao Chen replied.
"Oh, so the Shang Family has such a remarkable descendant. Truly astonishing. Come, come, take a seat over here. All of you, come over."
Qu Hongbo prided himself on his exceptional appraisal skills, but even he had been deceived by the imitation. Xiao Chen, however, saw through it—this was rare indeed.
Hence, he held Xiao Chen in high regard.
Xiao Chen smiled, "There’s no need for me to take a seat. I’m afraid certain people might grow jealous and stir up trouble. Thank you for your kind offer, Elder Qu. Besides, I must also look out for my friend’s reputation."
The friend, naturally, was Qu Zhenyu.
During their earlier conversation, Xiao Chen had learned of Qu Zhenyu’s current status.
This young man was not entirely without merit.
At twenty-five, he had already joined Tianxing Company and had been the Capital City branch head during his university years.
The irony, however, was that Qu Zhenyu wasn’t aware Tianxing Company was owned entirely by Xiao Chen.
Over there, after hearing Xiao Chen refuse his invitation, Qu Hongbo seemed somewhat displeased, but he didn’t say anything more as other guests continued presenting their gifts.
Xiao Chen, meanwhile, struck up a conversation with Qu Zhenyu.
Their initial rapport was already strong, and now that Xiao Chen knew Qu Zhenyu worked for Tianxing Company—a subordinate—it only made their interaction more amicable.
"How’s Tianxing Company treating you?"
Xiao Chen asked.
"It’s great. The benefits are impeccable, and the boss treats everyone like brothers. My dream now is to join Tiangang and become one of them."
Qu Zhenyu replied.
"Join Tiangang? That’s a dangerous endeavor."
"I’m not afraid. To serve a boss like this, I’d gladly risk my life. Truthfully, it’s funny—I’ve felt more happiness and fulfillment in this company than I’ve ever experienced with my own family."
Qu Zhenyu chuckled.
"I see."
Xiao Chen nodded, "But have you considered that if you became the Family Head of the Qu Family, your contributions to Tianxing Company could be even greater?"
"Of course I have, but is that realistic? You’ve seen how grandfather treats me; how could he possibly pass the title of Family Head to me?"
Qu Zhenyu waved dismissively.
"Attitudes can change. Your grandfather seems deeply admiring of King Yama War God. If you told him you could arrange for him to meet King Yama War God, what do you think he’d think of you?"
Xiao Chen smirked.
"But the problem is, I don’t have that ability. Lies will only unravel eventually."
Qu Zhenyu shook his head.
"You can’t do it, but I can."
Xiao Chen grinned, "All I need to know is whether you’re willing to take a gamble."
"Of course I am; what’s there to fear? At worst, I’ll be cast out of the family. Haven’t I lived this way all these years anyway?"
Qu Zhenyu replied nonchalantly.
"Good. If you’re willing, then it’s simple. Just tell him at the banquet that after today’s celebration, he’ll get to meet King Taishan and King Yama War God."
Xiao Chen smiled.
"Who exactly are you?"
Qu Zhenyu stared at Xiao Chen, feeling as if he were dreaming.
Xiao Chen’s plans were audacious enough to defy belief.
Despite seeming a bit outrageous, he exuded an undeniable sense of trustworthiness.
"But I don’t understand—why are you helping me?"
Qu Zhenyu furrowed his brows. While he could sense Xiao Chen’s formidable presence, helping someone just because they clicked in conversation seemed far-fetched.
"My surname is Xiao. Still don’t get it?"
Xiao Chen said with a faint smile.
"Xiao?"
"Xiao!"
Qu Zhenyu suddenly looked at Xiao Chen. He had heard that the owner behind Tianxing Company bore the surname Xiao.
He hurriedly stood up, ready to bow to Xiao Chen.
But Xiao Chen held him down: "It’s enough that you know. Do well, and I’ll have Zhang Qi groom you further. People with your temperament have the potential to achieve great things."
Qu Zhenyu grew more certain—calling Zhang Qi "that kid" was something only Tianxing Company’s boss could plausibly do.
Meanwhile, the gift-giving continued, though the Qu Family members seemed to have lost interest.
