Chapter 39: Fragment Of Death.

The air suddenly changed!

Liora felt it, she had tried her best to keep shut, felt the reverberations of Shadow’s battle with the demon, she had seen him get beaten beyond compare, brutalized, broken and tossed about like a rag doll.

She knew he had given up his life to save hers, she felt it in the command he had given her, yet she could do nothing against the barrier the demon had set up, nothing but watch her brother get beaten to death.

But now, now she wasn’t sure what was going on.

She was sure that Shadow’s legs and arms had been broken by the demon, yet there he floated in the air, shrouded in complete darkness, so whole and complete it sent shivers down her spine.

This was a power she had never felt before, nor was it one in which she could understand its depths. Encompassing, whole, complete. Yet so foreign atrocious. This was deeper than the power the demon held, much more fearsome than it, than anything any human had a right to own...

Not even the saints of this world could boast of such strength...

Lips drawn to a line, she watched as that same power knit his wounds and healed his broken body, she shied away, deeper into the shadows, nothing felt as black as what her eyes saw then. Even the demon took a few steps back, unsure of what to do.

Shadow lay motionless, floating unlatched in the air, as though it were his domain. Then his eyes slowly opened, looking about him, observing it’s environment, completely ignoring the demon.

Shadows eyes were black.

"Damnations..." Liora whispered, holding her breath with both palms. That wasn’t Shadow, she was so sure of it, the thing that stretched about while floating was not her brother.

"Aaaargh" Shadow stretched, his bones making popping sounds as relief flooded his bones.

"How long has it been? A half a millena? Or longer?" He sighed, his voice sounding unlike anything that left his lips, like that of a woman.

Shadow turned around noticing the dead bodies for the first time, then covering his nose, waving his hand as though to chase away the stink.

"Such horrendous acts? Are humans still capable of such, or perhaps..." His black eyes shifted to the demon who stood motions over there.

Liora’s heart thumped loud enough for her to hear it, she knew she would soon be caught, but where could she run too? Where could she hide from such an entity.

"You... You should be dead. Fragment!" The demon screamed, little rubble of stone and wood shook and fell from the ceiling from the might of its scream. Liora herself squeezed both his ears shut, even using mana to block the scream, but blood flowed from her ears regardless.

"So loud" Shadow sighed, flicking his hand as a wave of dark energy slammed into the demon, sending it towards the wall of the cave.

Shadow tendrils, like little hands materialized from the shadows around, pinning the demon against the wall.

"Unhand me. Forgotten fragment! Remnant of a dead god, you couldn’t possibly kill me, you are weak!" The demon’s voice thundered happily for some reason, Liora couldn’t make sense of it, she could barely even hear at this point...

"Tsk. My master is not dead!" Shadow hissed, waving his hand in a wide arc, the shadows that bound the demon to the wall, began pulling away at its body, ripping its arms and legs from its torso one after the other.

The demon screamed, not in defiance, but in pain, Liora couldn’t handle much of it, she felt herself slowly fading, maybe she would die, but if she were to survive, she would probably be deaf. That wasn’t so bad...

She saw the shadows around her shift, moving in a wide circle to wrap around her in a ball, her eyes quickly darted to that of Shadows, she saw his face, smiling gently at him, something Shadow would never do. But perhaps that was all she needed, she smiled back at Shadow as the shadows around her wrapped her completely, blocking the screams of the demon.

The demon kept regrowing it’s limbs in defiance, screaming in its rage, cursing swearing upon a dead god, Liora couldn’t understand any of it but she felt an immense relief, the demon could be killed.

How? She didn’t care, her lips slowly formed into a smile as black shadow hands kept ripping of at it’s joints, blood pooling around the demon continuously. It was a gore sight she thought she hoped she would never see again...

This kept on till all that remained was it’s head and torso of the demon, it struggled to breath, while it lay in its own blood.

"You... A servant of a dead god... Do this to me..." It’s voice was raspy, as life quickly faded from the demon.

"To bring me to this state... Haaa, disgraceful indeed. Whatever... your plan is, shall fail", it said while turning his head towards Shadow.

"Perhaps, it shall fail. But, his will to be free is stronger than you imagine" Shadow giggled, his voice still feminine. "If you had known him better, then you’d understand".

"Mors is no more, vanquished by the gods. Erevos shall reign supreme" it said at last, its final words.

"Fool. You cannot kill, a god of death!" Shadow sighed, then flicked his finger. The demon’s head went flying off, detached from its body and not growing back.

Shadow looked around slightly, "How long do you intend to hide yourself?" He asked, still possessed by an unknown entity.

Liora felt as though she was being spoken too. She tried standing up to answer but the weakness in her legs wouldn’t let her.

"Hey...." Another feminine voice answered, Liora looked around, searching for the voice but not seeing who owned it.

Out of thin air, a young fair skinned petite woman materialized herself, she held a staff in hand as she knelt on both knees towards Shadow.

"I greet the fragment of Death" she said, touching her head towards the ground. "I am Eryn, a spirit Mage".
