Chapter 86: Chapter 86: Some Underworld’s Funerary Preserving Vein

Flying into the sky, Wang Zijia witnessed a magnificent scene.

Everywhere he looked, waves of escape lights, magic tools, and paper kites took off one after another, heading to the same destination.

In particular, within the building complex of his own Qifu faction and the neighboring talisman master factions, the rising paper kites were exceptionally many, creating an opulent spectacle akin to a myriad of birds heading toward a phoenix, or a multitude of immortals paying homage.

Wang Zijia merged into the flock of paper kites, appearing as one member of the myriad creatures flocking toward a phoenix and arrived above the Funerary Preserving Vein.

Though the landmark building of this vein wasn’t the largest within the sect, it was the most unique and most eye-catching among the many doctrines within the entire Outer Sect’s boundary.

Because it was a coffin, a skyscraper of a coffin standing upright.

The scope of the building complex of this vein wasn’t large either. Despite its not so distant location from the Inheritance Peak, it was much smaller than the other major veins located at similar positions.

What’s more bizarre was that many of the buildings within this vein, to a greater or lesser degree, all had somewhat of underworld-esque features.

There were houses that were like standing or lying coffins;

Small courtyards adorned with floral wreaths were also present;

Ghost houses with blood-red lanterns hanging high, always shrouded in gloom, even during the day were there;

Spirit rooms resembling paper houses with paper figures scattered all over were even more commonplace.

All over the Funerary Preserving Vein, all the buildings seemed quite bizarre, somewhat hinting at the underworld and exuding a subtle eeriness.

Even though Wang Zijia had heard many tales about this vein during his recent cramming of basic knowledge, he still felt slightly perturbed when he actually saw the real situation of this vein.

Even while still in the sky, everything felt quite gloomy, as if he had arrived in the netherworld.

Would living in such an environment turn a person somewhat underworld-esque?

...

Hovering in the sky for a short moment, Wang Zijia then followed the crowd, guided by his identity card, and arrived at a huge square not far from the coffin landmark building.

Having observed the scene on the square, Wang Zijia realized that the underworld-like buildings around were no longer of much significance.

Right below him was a gigantic square that could easily accommodate tens of thousands of people. Right now, a huge Eight Trigrams diagram had been set up on it.

At the centre of the Eight Trigrams, the Yin and Yang Fish area was encapsulated by an array, making it impossible to see the situation inside, only a gigantic Yin and Yang fish could be discerned.

But the Eight Trigrams region around it could be clearly seen. The entire Eight Trigrams’ horizontal strokes (Yao) were completely composed of groups of coffins placed side by side.

The entire square was densely packed with at least tens of thousands of coffins. Each coffin was not empty, but occupied by a corpse. Because the coffins were not yet closed, Wang Zijia could clearly see the people lying inside.

All of them had been carefully prepared, seeming as if they were peacefully sleeping, yet also giving off an eerie vibe.

About ten coffins grouped together formed a set, with several dozens of such groups distributed within a region, forming the most basic horizontal stroke of the Eight Trigrams.

At this moment, next to every few groups of coffins, a lower-level disciple from the Funerary Preserving Vein was meditating in wait, seemingly having been prepared for quite a while.

The reason they could be immediately recognized as from the Funerary Preserving Vein was their rather distinct attire.

Very few of these people were wearing the standard uniforms of Outer Sect disciples. Some were dressed in Heavenly Master robes, some in Funerary Daoist robes, there were even those dressed in shrouds...

These clothes were of a wide assortment, collectively exuding an underworld-esque vibe.

It remained unknown whether they would normally dress like this, or if they were dressed like this because of today’s special occasion, using these clothes for work purpose.

Looking at the scene below the square, Wang Zijia felt some chills were constantly emerging from the Eight Trigrams Square below.

Some of the faint-hearted senior brothers and sisters from the Qifu Faction around him had their faces turning slightly pale.

Wang Zijia didn’t linger for too long. There were quite a few flying in the sky at the moment, remaining for too long could easily cause aerial congestion. Moreover, he didn’t know how the Sect arranged the entrance order. He found that the big shots of this Dharma Assembly had already taken their places.

All those currently entering the stage were disciples, resulting in the largest crowd of people, flying densely in the sky.

Having them, of such a level, to clinch the finale, Wang Zijia felt that the order was flipped.

However, precisely because of this, everyone was extremely cautious, quickly descending toward the ground, not daring to delay for too long. After all, being waited upon by such senior masters which were rarely seen usually, it was only natural to feel nervous.

...

Wang Zijia, according to the indications on his identity card, arrived at the southern side of the Eight Trigrams: the Li Position Area.

Most of those who arrived with him descended towards the edge of the Li Position area. However, Wang Zijia and a small group of people were guided towards the central area of the Li Position.

Having sensed a little, Wang Zijia understood the reason roughly.

It should have been due to his Earth Spirit root.

Earth stood in the middle position among the Eight Trigrams. It was likely that they were not qualified to be arranged inside the Yin and Yang Fish, so they were arranged in the Li Position belonging to fire. Therefore, they were closer to the center.

When Wang Zijia arrived at a stroke in the Li Position area according to the guidance, a meditation-cushion-like spiritual light array lit up on the ground below, resonating remotely with Wang Zijia’s identity card.

Without any hesitation, Wang Zijia immediately jumped off the paper kite, landing on that position.

Upon him sitting down cross-legged, the spiritual light under his feet faded, and the identity card in his hand vibrated slightly, indicating that he was already in position.

Ally, Wang Zijia finally heaved a sigh of relief, finally having the free time to observe his surroundings.

From this perspective, the scene was completely different from what he saw from the sky. Before Wang Zijia was rows and rows of coffins, forming a gigantic square array.

The square array was vaguely divided into ten regions; each region had a disciple of the Funerary Preserving Vein dressed in underworld-esque bizarre attire, waiting there.

The square array was surrounded by disciples like Wang Zijia, creating a human-formed border.

Above the square, four people sat cross-legged in the void, floating three meters above the ground, quietly waiting.

Looking far to his surroundings, at least four or more big shots were floating, waiting above every stroke of the Eight Trigrams diagram. And the disciples, riding on their paper kites, were like migratory birds returning to their nests. They descended around the coffins that formed the strokes of the Eight Trigrams diagram, forming a human-formed border.

Among these disciples, Wang Zijia noticed that at least half of them belonged to the Talisman Court and roughly one-third were from the Pill Institute. The remaining twenty percent belonged to the Artifact Academy and the Formation Institute, with a few others from miscellaneous factions.

Most of the disciples were likely in the same situation as Wang Zijia, quickly finding their positions after discovering that the senior masters were waiting for these small fry to arrive.

As a result, although the sky was densely packed with paper kites flying when Wang Zijia arrived, within just a quarter of an hour, the majority had already completed the positioning.

At this time, Wang Zijia suddenly felt a surge of aura spreading out from the center of the Eight Trigrams, the Yin and Yang fish started to gradually rotate.
