Chapter 252: Chapter 252: Awakening of the Spiritual Roots
"Brother Jun is back!"
"Dad!"
"I have to thank Auntie Qi!"
Like always, in the evening, Liang Jun returned home and picked up his son from the neighbor’s.
"Dad, today I was able to finish the full sequence of White Cloud Fist Technique. Granny Qi even praised me for my capability!" The six or seven-year-old Liang Cheng was exceptionally smart, appeared to be very sensible, he held his father’s hand and boasted while they were on their way back home.
"Uh-huh, Cheng is really good!" Liang Jun revealed a smile, then reached out and patted his son’s head.
Under the dusk’s glow, the scene was ordinary yet warm.
The father and son got back home, had dinner, and as usual, went to bed early.
······
"Roar!"
In the wee hours, Liang Jun was awakened by a commotion.
"Dad, I’m scared!"
Liang Cheng, who was sleeping by his side, also woke up. Hearing the noise outside, he looked at Liang Jun with blurry eyes.
"Good boy Cheng, Dad is with you!"
Liang Jun calmed his son, quickly got up, and as he opened the bedroom door, the noise only grew louder; even hints of firelight could be seen.
’Did something really happen?’
His expression changed slightly, he swiftly jumped onto the rooftop and saw fires breaking out everywhere and various crowds running in chaos.
"Roar!"
Suddenly, a man in the crowd let out a beast-like roar. He suddenly emanated a black energy and collapsed to the ground. While he struggled, his body inflated by more than double, his legs bent and stretched out like two misshapen beast legs.
Both of his hands also changed into front claws, his clothes torn apart from the enlarged body which now had sparse yellow hairs. His face grew long and narrow. From an overall look, he resembled a weird canine with a humanoid appearance.
The man who had turned into an odd canine-creature had pitch-black eyes, losing all the whites of his eyes and all reasoning, he barked at the crowd in panic and pounced.
"Demon!"
As residents of the border city, they were not unfamiliar with the concept of demons.
Between dramatic changes, Liang Jun swiftly jumped off the house and rushed into the room.
"Dad!"
"Hush!"
Liang Jun quickly gestured to Liang Cheng to keep quiet, and Cheng obediently shut his mouth.
Liang Jun took Liang Cheng and quickly entered the backyard of the house and hid. Instead of running around, he was aware that running around in the dark was more dangerous.
······
With his son, he quietly hid until dawn. Although nothing dangerous happened, the noise inside the city was increasing and the demons’ roars were becoming more frequent.
’We can’t wait like this, or we’ll be discovered sooner or later!’
After the sky brightened up, Liang Jun realized that he couldn’t wait like this anymore, otherwise, there was only a dead-end.
With a nervous heart, he carried his son on his back and quietly left the courtyard.
Throughout the night, the demon caused chaos and the city had turned into a ruined city. Fires were everywhere, there was fresh red blood spilled on the streets, and various mutilated corpses. Liang Cheng on his back unconsciously tightened his grip on Liang Jun’s neck.
"Don’t be scared, Dad is here!"
Liang Jun, with somewhat of an anxious voice, comforted his son.
"Uh-huh, Cheng isn’t scared, Cheng is a big boy now!" Liang Cheng earnestly replied. However, despite being just six or seven years old, he was as mature as a ten-year-old kid.
Liang Jun tightened his grip on his son and quickly made his way out of the city.
"Roar!"
Suddenly, a raggedly dressed woman charged out from the alley and lunged towards Liang Jun. Aware of the danger, Liang Jun swiftly avoided the attack.
The girl, who should have had a beautiful face, was now crawling like a cat, her hands turning into sharp claws. Her face smeared with fresh blood from devouring a corpse had taken on a beast-like transformation, making her look like an ugly cat monster.
Liang Jun, who had never fought a demon before, was extremely nervous. Having no experience in fights, he turned and ran. However, after only two steps, he felt movements behind him.
Out of an instinctive need to protect his child, he sidestepped.
"Rip!"
A cold light flashed past. A hand like a sharp claw had grazed his side, scratching several wounds in his abdomen.
"Dad, watch out!"
Liang Cheng who was on his back, let out a cry, seemingly reacting faster than Liang Jun.
Before Liang Jun could feel the pain of his wounds, the cat monster that had just bypassed him had already sprung off from a nearby wall. Changing direction, it charged him again, lunging for his chest.
"Thud!"
He was hit directly in the chest. The enormous force threw both of them into the air, and Liang Jun spat out a mouthful of fresh blood mixed with internal organs.
Mid-air, Liang Jun instinctively flipped over, nestling his son on his back.
"Crash!"
The massive impact caused a house to collapse.
"Ugh!"
Liang Jun grunted, his eyes rolled back, and he almost fainted. A strong willpower kept him conscious; he seemed to be oblivious to the wounds on his body, and he scrabbled to his feet and continued to run.
"Roar!"
But no sooner had he staggered to his feet and taken a few steps than there was a commotion behind him.
"Run!"
He tossed his son ahead and yelled at him, then suddenly turned and charged at the demon.
"Boom!"
Liang Jun had scarcely taken two steps when a spiritual light suddenly fell from the sky, striking the monster like a meteorite. The monster, which he could not fight off, didn’t react at all under the bombardment of the spiritual light and shattered into pieces.
Liang Jun paused for a moment, raised his head abruptly, and saw a sight he would never forget.
He saw an immortal palace appearing in the clouds. Countless celestial fires fell like meteor showers, as if it was the divine punishment from the immortals to the monsters. All the rampant monsters in the city without exception were quickly slain and destroyed as soon as they were struck.
One by one, the immortals, clad in robes and emanating an otherworldly aura, flew out from the palace and descended into the city as if to redeem them.
"Immortals, there are real immortals in this world! The once-in-a-decade legend of the Immortal Child ascending to immortality is true! Cough, ugh!"
Liang Jun was excited for a moment, then coughed up a large chunk of shattered internal organs. He then saw two beautiful celestial maidens approaching the shattered corpse of the monster.
"Dad!"
At that moment, a teary-eyed Liang Cheng came running over. Liang Jun, struggling to steady himself, grabbed his son and quickly approached the two immortals. He knelt down and said, "I beg you, please save my child."
"We..."
"Ugh..."
Before the two could answer, Liang Jun, who already felt at his limit, voluntarily ceased suppressing his injuries after making his request. He spat out a mouthful of blood and became completely silent.
"Dad!"
Upon seeing his father collapse after spitting out blood, Liang Cheng cried out. His emotions seemed to go out of control.
At that moment, spiritual light began to coil around him, forming a small whirlwind. Tiny purple arcs of electricity popped out in the air, sparking nonstop.
A powerful spiritual pressure emanated from Liang Cheng’s body, causing him to float in the air while electricity flickered within him.
"Could this be...the awakening of the Spiritual Root Talent?"
"An Immortal Spiritual Root and it’s a top-grade spiritual root?"
"Thunder and lightning talent, is it the First Class Immortal Spiritual Roots?"
The two disciples who had come to collect the corpse were startled. Before they could react, three beams of escape light descended from the sky.
