Chapter 247: Chapter 247: Encounter

"Roar!"

Suddenly, the Magic Panther eating underneath sensed something and roared towards the magic-driven vehicle in the sky.

The magic-driven vehicle paid no attention and continued its course. The Magic Panther also lowered its head again, starting to devour its food.

Wang Zijia sat in the cockpit, been at the helm for a while. Because he was unfamiliar with the wilderness and exaggerated tales about the wilderness, he only slowly relaxed from his slightly nervous state.

······

Time unknowingly slipped away. It took them two full days to cross a vast wilderness area and enter a first-rank dynasty closest to Wanyu Sect.

Under the Wanyu Sect, dynasties were categorized into five levels, with the first level being the highest and the fifth level the lowest.

Generally, the closer the dynasty was to the Wanyu Sect, the larger and more prosperous it was, and the higher its level. Of course, there were many exceptions to this rule.

This was the first time Wang Zijia truly saw the mortals of this world. Through the thousand-mile mirror on the magic-driven vehicle, Wang Zijia clearly saw that the cities along the way were like those in the tales of ancient times. They were living peaceful lives, tranquil and serene, full of ordinary humanity.

Instead of landing, their magic-driven vehicle accelerated. Spiritual light particles erupted, drawing a long tail of flame, which led countless mortals to shout for immortals and continuously genuflect in reverence.

······

In this way, Wang Zijia spent most of his time each day in the control room sitting, with the rest of his time spent on cultivation and eating. Even when he had nothing to do, he was accustomed to sitting there, observing.

In the control room, a group of Array Repairers were busy checking for all sorts of dangers, and Wang Zijia quietly watched them.

When the magic-driven vehicle crossed a dynasty and entered the wilderness between dynasties, Wang Zijia clearly felt that it gradually became more insecure the further they got from Wanyu Sect.

Whether it was the demons visible everywhere in the wilderness or the human presence inside the dynasties, they could all clearly feel that the further they were from the Wanyu Sect’s suppression, the more chaotic the world became with countless conflicts emerging and demonic beings proliferating.

"Beep Beep!"

Suddenly, the entire control room echoed with an alarm sound.

"What’s happening?" Nong Yufei, who was adjusting controls, immediately asked. Wang Zijia instantaneously turned his attention there too.

Among the surrounding Array Repairer disciples in the control room, one quickly pulled up a light screen, operated it for a moment, and then with a push of his hand, moved the light screen to the center of the control room.

While the light screen was being pushed to the center, it quickly enlarged. The Array Repairer disciple hurriedly said, "Martial Uncle Nong, Martial Uncle Wang, our magic-driven vehicle was likely discovered by a high sensory demonic being when we just passed a Demon Lair, and they are chasing us."

As he spoke, the light screen had already been projected to the center of the control room. Everybody looked up to see a group of dark figures swiftly flying up from a giant peak underneath and swarming towards them incessantly.

"Screech!"

The dense figures flying in the air, issued an eerie scream, like the wailing of evil spirits.

As the image zoomed in, Wang Zijia could clearly see the shape of these creatures.

They were creatures akin to enlarged bats, but with devilish skulls, bodies with around two-meter wingspan, wingtips looking like ghost-clawed arms, and legs resembling bird-claws or bird-legs, much like the body of a harpy.

The color of their flesh wings was much more vibrant than the black thin membrane of ordinary bats. They resembled butterfly wings. Among various vibrant colors, there were many small freckles. When zoomed in, they all looked like various deformed skull shapes.

There were bull heads, dog heads, tiger heads, and occasionally human faces. As they flew, their wings flapped and the meat wings moved, as if the creatures on it were still struggling and wriggling.

"These are Devil Face Ghost Bats!" Nong Yufei’s eyebrows furrowed.

These creatures had extremely sharp senses and were incredibly fast, making it difficult to shake them off.

Wang Zijia’s eyebrows were furrowed; he hesitated for a moment, and then proactively suggested, "Let’s gain altitude first, then worry about shaking them off!"

Upon hearing his instruction, Nong Yufei didn’t respond, but the surrounding disciples from the Formation Institute immediately moved without hesitation to activate the light screen arrays when Wang Zijia spoke.

"Weng!"

The magic vessel vibrated briefly and swiftly ascended into the sky.

"Wah wah!"

The swarm of devil-faced bat demons trailing closely behind them also rose quickly in altitude, matching their ascent.

Because they dared not push the limit and increase their speed fully — for fear of causing substantial disorder and triggering unforeseen consequences — the distance between them didn’t increase. Instead, it was steadily closing.

After this high-speed airborne chase lasted for a short while, Wang Zijia’s eyebrows were knitted tightly together in concern.

"Continuing like this, not only will we not be able to shake them off, but the commotion might also trigger other unforeseen consequences. Moreover, maintaining our flight at high-altitude puts us at risk of encountering air demons, which we wouldn’t be able to deal with," Nong Yufei took stock of the situation before making a suggestion. "Let’s make our move! We should deal with this swiftly!"

"Alright, let’s fight!" Wang Zijia also had this plan in mind, so he was resolute and agreed readily.

While speaking, Wang Zijia engaged the broadcast system.

"All disciples, please note that our magic vessel is under attack from a swarm of devil-faced bat demons. Please head quickly to the deck to assist in combat and exterminate the bat demons!"

"..."

The broadcast was repeated three times, and nearly a thousand disciples began to mobilize.

"You control the array, and I’ll go up to the deck and help out. Senior Brother Lei might not be able to manage everything on his own," Wang Zijia stood up and instructed Nong Yufei after the broadcast.

"Alright, I’ll handle things from here," Nong Yufei nodded in agreement.

He quickly traversed several areas, and by the time he arrived on the deck, nearly all of the disciples had assembled and were organized in their positions on the deck.

The magic vessel was still under stealth mode, but the swarm of devil-faced bat demons had obviously used some special method to lock onto them. Demons continuously crashed into the energy shield outside the vessel. Many disciples stared in apprehension at the swarm of devil-faced bat demons.

"Martial Uncle Wang is here!"

"Martial Uncle Wang has arrived!"

Seeing Wang Zijia’s arrival, many disciples felt somewhat relieved, and their anxious moods notably lessened. This was the benefit of fame; it was like an instant calming pill.

Nong, release the stealth cloaking. Shut down the two-way defensive energy shield and activate the one-way repulsive stance defense!" Wang Zijia ignored the surrounding disciples, raised his head and addressed the air after reaching the deck.

"Weng!"

Then, the energy cover, akin to an air wall, also disappeared. A repulsion field emanated outwards from the surface of the vessel. This sudden change in defense caught the devil-faced bat demons off guard, and they were repelled a considerable distance away.

Wang Zijia, who was prepared, didn’t hesitate. The moment the energy shield akin to an air wall disappeared, Wang Zijia roared: "Attack!"
