Chapter 141: Chapter 141: Mysterious Night

"Let’s take a look around and see if we can gain anything else!" Wang Zijia suggested, but what he truly desired was to find other newcomers who still retained their sanity.

There had been numerous people who initially entered the Ginseng Garden, including geniuses from various sects, even those who had Dao Seeds. He did not believe that all of them had silently succumbed without even surviving the first wave of identity shift.

Such people should know a lot!

Number 13 and Number 2 had no clues at all, so they followed Wang Zijia upon hearing this.

However, after casually wandering through three streets, the dreary sky started to darken visibly, the light diminishing perceptibly.

The relatively normal streets around them began to take on an eerie darkness, and the blood-red lanterns lined up on both sides of the street started to light up one by one.

The crowd also turned pale as if they were a horde of walking corpses. Their clothes began to brighten up, their styles eerily resembling various types of shrouds.

The three of them didn’t notice anything amiss until the lanterns shone everywhere and the bloody light illuminated the entire block. The walking crowd occasionally revealed strange grins at them. Only then did Wang Zijia jolt awake.

When he abruptly looked at the sky, it was nearly completely dark, and the pace of this change was incredibly rapid.

The two people behind him were still blissfully unaware. Under the shroud of the blood-colored crystal, they subconsciously followed Wang Zijia around like simpletons.

Wang Zijia quickly headed towards the East District Mountain Range with a rapidly changing expression.

The status of the two people behind him was evidently a bit unusual. They still hadn’t noticed anything amiss and subconsciously followed Wang Zijia’s lead.

Upon careful observation, Wang Zijia noticed subtle changes in their outfits. He wasn’t sure when it happened, but their clothing, while still the attire of the Wanyu Sect’s Outer Sect Disciples, seemed to be a different style. It felt like a design that the Wanyu Sect had phased out long ago.

’Have they also been eroded? Since their established identity is that of a disciple of the Wanyu Immortal Sect, that’s why it hadn’t been noticed before? People with a Blood Crystal can also get eroded?’

Wang Zijia’s thoughts raced and his pace quickened.

"Three Immortal Elders, come in and play!"

As Wang Zijia hurriedly traversed street after street, he passed a brightly lit pavilion. A few women enthusiastically tried to appeal to him.

They were dressed in blood-red wedding dresses, their makeup was so pallid that it seemed to fall off, giving them the appearance of wearing heavy corpse makeup.

On their ghostly white faces, they wore rigid, wicked smiles.

Behind the building, there were exceptionally numerous blood-red lanterns that bathed the entire building in a crimson glow.

With that said, one of the girls stepped forward and gripped Wang Zijia’s arm.

Wang Zijia, who had been quite alert the whole time, suddenly felt like his arm had been wrapped in ice. The place where his arm made contact with her emitted pulses of cold energy that rushed towards his brain.

With the wealth of his experience, he didn’t hesitate even for a second and swiftly moved into the Chaotic Sea of Knowledge.

"Value +143!"

As he exchanged his value, Wang Zijia shivered like he had just slurped an ice cream, feeling invigorated from head to toe.

"Hm!"

The woman who had grasped his arm, however, let out a faint grunt, and her legs became soft as she slumped to the ground.

What made Wang Zijia’s hair stand on end was the fact that the woman quickly lost her reality after slumping onto the ground. In his astonished gaze, she transformed into a paper figure.

The figure was made entirely out of paper and still looked somewhat realistic, resembling a meticulously crafted specialty paper doll.

The transformative spectacle startled Wang Zijia so much that he instinctively took a step back.

"Oh Immortal Elder, you’re so awful, making a girl’s legs weak!" The paper-like girl lying down innocently said without any realization of what was happening.

Wang Zijia shuddered, quickly coming back to his senses. He turned back to see that his brief delay had given two women the opportunity to take the arms of two men behind him, intending to head into the building.

Because the Blood Crystal floated in front of Number Two, Number Thirteen, having been pulled away, was out of the umbrella of the Blood Crystal. At this point, he had completely transformed.

His face was still the same, but his demeanor, hairstyle, and clothes had all changed. Wang Zijia could confirm that this was the attire of a Wanyu Sect Outer Disciple from a millennium ago.

Number Two still had the protection of the Blood Crystal, so he was somewhat better off. Even though a woman had taken his arm, he still looked as he had originally, with only minor changes to his clothes.

Wang Zijia’s gaze flickered for a moment, decisively extending his hand through the light screen of the Blood Crystal to grasp Number Two’s hand. Without a word, he stepped forward and walked off.

"Esteemed Immortal, why don’t you stay a little longer? We have female cultivators accompanying at the Heavenly Fragrance Tower!"

Behind him, the exquisite girl, looking somewhat weak-legged, stood up and tried to retain him.

Wang Zijia had no intention of responding. Bowing his head, he held on tight to Number Two’s arm and pressed on urgently.

While Number Two was in a peculiar state, he did not resist Wang Zijia and followed him out of instinct.

Fortunately, the woman who had taken Number Two’s arm did not use force. Despite Wang Zijia’s tugging, she gave up her attempt to hold him back and stopped at the edge of the Heavenly Fragrance Tower’s customer reception area.

On leaving the range of the Heavenly Fragrance Tower, Wang Zijia sped up, pulling Number Two along, head bent forward in his hurry.

Meanwhile, magical fluctuations emanated from Wang Zijia’s hand. A mysterious aura flew out from the back of the hand that was holding Number Two and quietly slipped into Number Two’s mouth.

He had thought of doing this when they had met during the day.

However, both parties had upheld strong defenses, and Wang Zijia didn’t dare to rashly approach the other’s Bloody Light Screen. After seeing the consequences faced by the youth who had violated the Market Square rules earlier day, he dared to do so even less.

Now, the time was just right!

This was also the reason why Wang Zijia had decided to save Number Two.

As the light spot entered the mouth and silently began to erode, Wang Zijia noticed that there was another cold force within the other. Like him, it was doing the same thing.

Luckily, this force didn’t resist against his demon-seeding power but instead moved out of the way as if acknowledging him as its own kind.

It was as if it was saying, ’Who’s eroding who here? We’re on the same side.’

As night fell, the Market Square began to feel more and more off.

Gradually, it turned into a ghostly mansion of sorts. Blood-red lanterns were hung all around, and a chilly wind blew sporadically. All around lay the stiff bodies of the dead, dressed in shrouds and moving rigidly, a stark contrast to the daytime scenario.

The moment they saw Wang Zijia, their initially eerie grins were slowly replaced by dull, staring expressions, as if they would pounce upon him at any moment.

Luckily, Wang Zijia arrived at the East District Spirit Vein Mountain before darkness had completely fallen.

However, seeing the reception area turned into a paper spirit house, Wang Zijia couldn’t help but shudder internally.

Finally, glancing at the increasingly odd-looking pedestrians and the rapidly darkening sky, he grit his teeth and stepped into the mountain range.

The mountain range was no longer the same splendid sight it was during the day. The surrounding trees had morphed into old locust trees, their branches twisting and turning.

The once-clear spring water had turned a mildewy yellow, emitting a slightly rotten smell, and was lined with various floating objects.

The pavilions that once exuded an aura of Immortal energy had all turned into spirit houses made of paper. Blood-red lanterns hung high in each of them, and not one of them seemed normal.
