Chapter 1002: Chapter 790: The Bizarre Remnants of Different Eras _3

As Wang Zijia’s smile spread, the air around seemed to grow a few degrees colder.

The four little ghosts hoisting the carriage trembled instinctively for a moment.

Jiang Mingda and Kuang Weiping both felt a chill down their backs. Gazing at Wang Zijia’s eerie smile, they felt a sense of foreboding, but promptly stepped into their roles, saying in unison, "At your command, my lord!"

In the midst of their words, the two transformed into lantern-carrying youths who would lead the way for a bone carriage, declaring, "This way, my lord!"

The four ghosts, meanwhile, carried the bone carriage filled with a chilling Ghost Qi. Their presence intertwined, enveloping both Jiang Mingda and Kuang Weiping as they flew towards the distance as one cohesive unit.

A fat and a skinny teenager, both ashen-faced, carried a blood-red lantern at the front, followed by four children bearing a bone carriage, surrounded by swirling Ghost Qi. Though it was clearly daytime, their presence made the surrounding air turn dim as if it were night.

This entire procession exuded a sense of evil, bizarreness, and even seemed too stereotypically demonic, giving off the impression that a Great Demon was on the move!

······

Though the speed of the Five Ghosts moving the mountain and carrying the palanquin couldn’t match that of Divine Powers, under the bolstering of Wang Zijia’s Dao Consistency and cultivation, their pace was still incredibly swift.

The spectacle in the sky was of several little ghosts carrying an odd, skeletal palanquin which would flash and disappear, reappearing tens of miles away.

Accompanied by the style of the Underworld, anyone who saw it would know that a Great Demon was setting forth!

Thus, the group kept flickering out of sight, moving quickly towards their destination.

Along the way, outside the mountains and wilderness, they occasionally saw many ruined cities, nearly all of which were cities of cultivators.

What was peculiar was that these ruins seemed untouched by time, as if they had been destroyed only yesterday due to the nearby clash of cultivators and not due to the ravages of time.

Oddly fresh!

This was the reason Wang Zijia felt something strange about the place.

Of course, apart from this point, Wang Zijia always felt there was something else amiss but couldn’t put his finger on what exactly it was at the moment.

After traversing for a while past several ruins, Wang Zijia suddenly saw a high tower in an architectural group with elements of a Buddha Tower within the ruins.

’That’s rare, after the Third Epoch, when the Dao Court united the Multi-Heavens, cutting mountains and destroying temples obliterated other Dao Consistencies, and things of non-Taoist School style became scarce. This area is still controlled by the Zhang Family······’

Glancing at the fleeting remains of the Buddha Tower style architecture, Wang Zijia was surprised for a moment, then suddenly his thoughts froze.

In that instant, a burst of Spiritual Light suddenly flashed through Wang Zijia’s mind!

"Stop!"

At Wang Zijia’s ancient-sounding command, the skeletal carriage of the Five Ghosts immediately came to a halt.

Beneath them lay a vast expanse of ruins.

While some places still maintained their integrity, many others had been affected, with various ruins standing tall.

"What is it, my lord?" asked Jiang Mingda, transformed into a rotund, chubby lantern-holding youth, who turned back to look at Wang Zijia with a puzzled expression. His pale face reflected by the blood-red lanterns seemed ghostly deep.

Wang Zijia, looking down at the ruined buildings below, asked, "What do you think is the style of the buildings down there?"

Jiang Mingda looked down to see what was clearly a ruined city of cultivators, its beams and pillars engraved with ancient charm, full of distinctive character.

"These should be buildings from the period of the Dao Court, their style is quite obvious!" Jiang Mingda replied accordingly.

"Then which specific period?" inquired Wang Zijia.

Jiang Mingda, lost for an answer, shook his head and said, "I beg your forgiveness, my lord. I have not studied this in depth!"

Wang Zijia nodded, not having expected an answer, and based on the information he had quickly learned in recent days, he said to himself:

"From just now, we have passed through seven clusters of ruins of cultivator cities. Although they are all generally similar, it seems that they are all from the period of the Dao Court."

"However, this place and the one before it have building styles from the early Third Age, distinguished by the evident residual elements of other Dao Consistencies."

"Yet the fifth and the sixth sites were built during the later period of the Third Age, by which time the Dao Court had fully assimilated the ancient Dao traditions, exhibiting an element of grand unity in their style, a bit more stately and less diverse."

"And the third and seventh sites have mixed in elements from other domains, clearly the style of the Fourth Epoch, even the middle to late stages of the Fourth Epoch during the peak of the War of the Worlds."

"And the fourth site······ even looks like the style of the Fifth Epoch."

It was as if in his previous life, during the Han, Tang, and Song Dynasties, cities in the heartland of the Central Plains were all in Han style, with ordinary buildings being wooden pavilions. Yet due to subtle cultural differences, a variety of distinctions would emerge.

Occasionally, a region might exhibit period differences because of the era in which it was built.

But what shouldn’t be happening is the current situation, where styles from different eras intersect, and yet each city clearly exhibits chronological discrepancies.

It was as if······ the several ruins they encountered on their short journey belonged to different periods!

Jiang Mingda and Kuang Weiping were momentarily bewildered before Jiang Mingda said, "You’re amazing, my lord. I knew something was off, but it turns out the problem was this."

Kuang Weiping frowned, doubtfully saying, "But that’s strange. We’ve only traveled such a short distance, so how come there are buildings from many different periods? It can’t be that these cities were built successively over two epochs and have lasted until now, can it?"

Wang Zijia’s eyes flickered as he said, "Yes, although these are cities of cultivation, they’re not that advanced and couldn’t possibly have been built over such an extended period! And on our way here, we haven’t felt any noticeable rift in space······"

Both exchanged confused glances before looking back at Wang Zijia, not understanding what this implied.

Wang Zijia himself wasn’t sure what was causing this, but considering the ruins showed no signs of decay, it wasn’t hard to guess that there might be an anomaly with the space-time here.

However, it probably wasn’t a Time Sin; otherwise, Wang Zijia wouldn’t be here right now.

So, what exactly was going on here?

Or what could be causing it?
