Chapter 98: Upgrading Sixth Sense
Chapter 98: Chapter 98: Upgrading Sixth Sense
"Venom gland was found. After testing, I can confirm that mana can indeed purge the venom."
Landur spoke as he inspected the dismantled parts.
"Everyone has already witnessed the creatures hiding abilities, no need to explain further. The claws and fangs are coated in the venom from the creature while also being sharp enough to cut through most flesh and bone below the Martial Warrior Realm. Our armor should be able to endure it for a while without being broken, however, if it were to get a clean bite off, ignoring the armor, it would be able to pierce deep enough to injure a Low Rank Martial Warrior just enough to inject the poison so try to avoid getting hit."
"Finally, their scales are quite ordinary. We should be able to more or less finish them off with one strike."
Everyone paid full attention to Landur’s explanation of the creature’s abilities and physical state.
Once Landur was done explaining, the group continued to move.
Since they managed to confirm what they knew about the Ambush Fang, there was no more reason to stick around. They still had a whole forest of them to hunt after all.
....
With the success of the first sneak attack, the group continued to increase their pace while still maintaining a cautious and vigilant approach to everything.
Thanks to Lake’s supernatural stealth skills and extraordinary sixth sense, they managed to detect all of the Ambush Fangs ahead of time and were always the one to be doing the ambush!
Because of this, not only did they manage to kill over fifty Ambush Fangs by the time the sun had set, they did so without receiving a single injury!
Most of the Ambush Fangs lived either alone or in pairs of two. With Lake and Hana’s archery skills, the battle was usually over before it started.
They did come across a group of three Ambush Fangs once during their hunt, however, Lake quickly proved himself as a Master Assassin, successfully killing one without the other two noticing. What followed next was the familiar routine of two arrows.
Using broken tree branches, the group created an area of cover between three nearby trees. They refrained from lighting a fire so as to avoid attracting any unnecessary attention with the only light illuminating the area being the small moonlight seeping through the cracks in the leaves above.
Everyone was currently resting and taking this chance to recover their expended mana. Although Jayce, Landur and Gwen had barely used any mana throughout this hunt, only using a little to travel around, it was always good to stay topped up.
Lake was slightly similar to them as well, having turned on the Mana Gathering Formation on his heart, passively attracting the surrounding mana towards him while he kept an eye out on the surroundings.
Since everything was done automatically, Lake didn’t need to pay attention to the technique and instead focused on checking his gains for the day.
[RP Points = 1614.464]
Each of the Ambush Fangs only provided him with 10 RP each. After killing over fifty of them, Lake had gained slightly more than 500 RP. Combined with his previous points, he now had over 1600 RP.
Pulling up his skills, Lake looked at the available list of skills he could upgrade.
Assassinate lv1 (500 RP to upgrade)
Spellcasting lv1 (500 RP to upgrade)
Sixth Sense lv1 (300 RP to upgrade)
Looking at the list of skills, Lake thought for a moment before deciding to upgrade Sixth Sense.
He wasn’t doing this out of a whim but because of a certain incident. He looked over to the silver haired girl peacefully mediating to one side of the small hideaway.
She was less than five meters away yet Lake still couldn’t pick up a trace of her with his Sixth Sense.
When Lake had first bumped into Gwen he thought it was due to his misjudgment, but now seeing that his Six Sense still wasn’t picking her up after being so close, he had to admit it.
It seems that his Sixth Sense wasn’t quite as powerful as he originally thought. Knowing that there could be people out there that could avoid the detection of his Sixth Sense, Lake felt extremely vulnerable.
Although it wasn’t a guarantee that upgrading it would allow him to sense Gwen, strengthening it was also conducive to his current situation so there was no harm in trying.
[Sixth Sense lv. 1 - All assassins eventually develop a special sixth sense once they have gained enough experience. This sixth sense allows them to filter out the unimportant and break through illusions. It also functions as a danger detector that manifests as a unique feeling to warn you of any immediate danger. At the current level, this sense only functions within a range of 30 meters.]
Taking one more glance at the level one abilities of the Sixth Sense ability, Lake asked Hana to take over watch duty for a moment.
After switching out of watch duty, Lake confirmed the system notification in his head.
[Detected Host has chosen to upgrade Sixth Sense skill, does the host wish to proceed?]
[The Host’s agreement has been confirmed.]
[300 RP points have been deducted.]
[Beginning upgrade...]
In an instant, Lake’s senses were stripped. This time however, there was no large volume of information being poured into his head, instead, he felt himself floating in a void.
His body had already gone through some minute changes on the inside.
After a few minutes, Lake regained control over his body.
Before he could readjust to his body or confirm the changes, he suddenly felt a soft explosion in his ears as if a barrier had been unblocked.
Boom!
In an instant, Lake felt his senses that were only slightly better than a normal human expand by several magnitudes.
The soft sound of hearts beating rang out loudly in his ears as he could sense the minute shifts in the atmosphere as it brushed against his skin.
Opening his eyes, he felt like his worldview had undergone another change as he could see the smallest details around him that he usually didn’t pay attention to.
The normally silent breathing of his teammates besides him was magnified by hundreds of times. If it was a normal person, they would have felt like their eardrums were bursting but Lake only felt that it was unusually natural.
He wanted to open up the system interface to find out what exactly changed but quickly sensed something in the distances.
"...."
Turning his head to look through the foliage covering their hiding place, Lake’s gazes traveled through the pitch black darkness of the night.
"Prepare for battle."
Lake spoke softly but his words caused everyone to become instantly alert.
Gwen, who had stopped meditating, looked over to Lake, "How many?"
Lake didn’t immediately speak. Instead, he focused his sense of hearing and sight to observe the distances.
"Twelve, but... four of them are different from the Ambush Fangs we’ve faced so far."
"Different? How?" Landur asked as his eyes narrowed. He had already unsheathed his sword from its scabbard.
"Bigger. Much heavier than the Ambush Fang at the least, and it seems to be walking on two legs..."
Hearing this, everyone was slightly startled but their vigilance only increased more.
However, Gwen was soon to pick up on the hidden meaning in Lake’s words.
"What do you mean by seem?"
She had long noticed that Lake’s gaze had never once looked away from the outside from the moment he spoke.
"I can’t confirm for sure as they all seem to be invisible..."
When the group heard this, they were slightly stunned.
Hana hurriedly tried to ask something, wanting to confirm what she just heard.
However, before she could even speak half a sentence, Lake quickly interrupted her.
"Too late, it seems like they’re on to us! They’re rushing straight towards us!"
Hearing this the group immediately reacted and jumped out of their hiding spot. If they were to stay in such a cramped space and a fight were to really break out, the results would be tragic.
Once the group jumped out of the hiding spot, they immediately got into formation as they carefully observed their surroundings.
The place was extremely dark and the group had a hard time seeing anything pass ten meters in front of them.
They could hear the sound of countless creatures rustling in the bushes around them but couldn’t see a thing, leaving them extremely anxious and wary.
Mana could be used to enhance the eye so that hunters could see further, however, the enhancement effect isn’t particularly strong and did almost nothing to improve their dark vision.
At that moment, a sound of something like a flare going off sounded out behind everyone as Lake shouted out.
"Quick! Close your eyes!"
Hearing this, everyone subconsciously closed their eyes for a brief moment. They didn’t know why they obeyed him so easily but they could feel a warm current flowing through them, slightly enhancing their strength.
BOOM!
A sound like a fireworks exploding sounded out as everyone quickly opened their eyes, snapping out of their previous daze.
Instantly, they felt like they had entered another world as a brilliant light shone down from above, causing the surroundings to transform from night to day.
A little distance away, they could see the blurry outlines of several figures recoiling back as they covered their eyes from the brilliant light.
"Attack now!"
