Chapter 87: Martial Lord!

Chapter 87: Chapter 87: Martial Lord!

As many first year students signed up for the event, all of the second year students were unmoved.

Although Lake’s proposition sounded interesting, most of the second year students were already Mid Rank Martial Apprentice with a few barely reaching High Rank.

They also had to worry about how to gather points so that they could successfully graduate so doing something like this felt a little too risky.

If Lake really showed results in his training and the group of first years who signed up advanced at a quick pace, it wouldn’t be too late to join then. At worst, they would just be on the same level as the first years which was something they could accept.

After all, Martial Arts training was only 1% talent, and 99% hard work. The requirements to become a martial artist are quite low in the first place, you just need to have a physique stronger than most humans and this can be gained through dedicated training.

The only reason why everyone doesn’t become martial artists is simply because not everyone is cut out to dedicate long hours of training to meet the requirements and even then, most could never follow through with the proceeding training, leaving them stuck at the bottom of the Martial Apprentice Realm.

If someone was hardworking and willing to put in the countless hours of practice, even with a low level mana circulation technique, they could still advance all the way to the Martial Grandmaster Realm.

However, despite the second years not showing an interest in joining, the situation online was completely different.

Videos of Lake’s rampage had already spread throughout the school’s forum and at this point everyone knew about it.

The event had been greatly advertised and as a result, the rest of the first years who didn’t show up originally were finally showing interest in the event.

The crowd of students Lake gathered outside the training field wouldn’t be the final group to come sign up, it would only be the beginning.

...

A few hours later after the match, Lake found himself inside an old rustic style office room.

All the furniture inside the room was made out of a strange red wood that gave off a scent that reminds one of home, making one subconsciously relax.

There were a few potted plants growing beside the window behind the main desk where an old man sat on a large wooden chair that felt more like a throne than an actual office chair due to its high backrest.

The old man had white hair and appeared quite skinny. With a kind smile on his face he looked at Lake with interest.

As Lake looked at the old man, his nerves tensed up as he tried to calm himself down. He didn’t dare to be careless with this seemingly weak looking old man as Lake had long figured out his identity after observing the fates of the other teachers in the academy.

The old man before him was Principal Ralph, the principal of the academy and the man responsible for nurturing the future generation of Martial Artists.

He had a kind smile on usual days and is always open to talking to anyone who walks by. However, Lake knew better than to underestimate this "kind grandpa".

A long time ago, before he became the principal of the academy and when the Disaster had first struck, this old man went by another name as he fought bravely on the frontlines, Berserker!

Like a demon whose only purpose was to kill and destroy, he surged around the monster infested battlefield and laid waste to tens of thousands of beasts and in the process saving millions of lives!

He’s one of the oldest hunters alive today, living close to two centuries!

When the Disaster first struck, he was already more than eighty years old but with the influx of mana, his originally old body had been reinforced and turned into a devastating killing machine.

Rumors say he had practiced an ancient martial art that allowed him to preserve his body strength for all those years which allowed him to be one of the first to absorb mana.

At that time, he was one of the pioneers that had explored the mysterious energy known as mana and began the era of Martial Arts!

A living legend!

What’s even most impressive is that despite being one of the earliest to explore the Martial Path, he had managed to climb up despite his old age and became a Martial Lord!

When one becomes a Martial Lord, their body is reconstructed and further reinforced by mana, becoming godlike existences that look down on the rest of the world. Their appearances would never age and they would have gained a long lifespan.

Since no Martial Lord had died of old age yet, it was impossible for them to figure out the exact life expectancy of a Lord, but through various tests and experiments, they guessed it to be somewhere around 300 years old!

It was because of this that every Martial Artist dreamed of becoming a Lord at a young age, gaining both a long lifespan and an eternally youthful appearance.

However, the difficulty of surpassing the Martial Grandmaster Realm and taking the step into the Martial Lord Realm could be described as the difference between heaven and earth.

The amount of work and effort required to advance to the Martial Lord Realm is hundreds of times harder than becoming a Martial Grandmaster. Most of the people who were close to achieving the level had died of old age or were killed inside a rift.

That was the reason why there were less than a hundred Martial Lords in the entire continent.

Seeing Lake’s somewhat uncomfortable expression, Principal Ralph chuckled before speaking.

"There is no need to be so tense. I only called you here to figure out what you’re up to and verify some minor things under the pressure of the rest of the staff."

Hearing this, Lake relaxed as he spoke.

"Then may I ask what you want to know?"

"Its nothing much, the group of instructors just want to know what you’re up to with this sudden training event and to verify your current strength."

Hearing this, Lake nodded in understanding.

From the instructors’ point of view, no matter how much freedom they give to the students, it was still their job to make sure that they nurture the students in a proper manner.

Understanding Lake’s training method and learning of his goal is a must to ensure the safe development of the students.

As for verifying his strength, Lake thinks this had more to do with the instructors’ curiosity more than their job.

"This training event was originally created with the purpose of speeding up the advancement of every student along the Martial Path. As for my goal, as I had stated, I only wish to create a group of allies that could help me out in the future."

After Lake spoke, he took out his wrist band before sending a file to the Principal’s computer in front of him.

"In that file is the basis for how I plan to train the students. It is only the first Chapter as I have yet to transfer the rest of the knowledge into a digital format to spread among the students, but it should be enough to verify my method."

"The first Chapter is called The Principles of Flow Path."

Principal Ralph raised an eyebrow upon hearing Lake’s words.

"Flow Path? Isn’t that thought in the Mana Theory class. Why did you feel the need to teach this again?" Ralph asked curiously.

"If you read the file you will be able to figure out the meaning behind it."

"Quite rude aren’t you?" Ralph’s eyes twitched.

"Apologies, I didn’t mean to sound disrespectful, sir." Lake spoke calmly.

He didn’t feel the need to explain the contents of the Chapter as once someone reads it, they would be able to figure out its purpose.

"Alright, I’ll send it out to your Mana Theory Instructor, let him have a read and then he can decide what to do with your little event."

"On to the next question now. I can clearly sense that your mana quality doesn’t meet the requirement to leave your body or even strengthen it to the fitness index that you showcased during your battle today."

"However, the strength you showed was indeed far above what your mana tells me, so I wonder if you could tell me where your current strength stands. There’s no need to reveal your techniques or skills, just tell me what level you think you can fight at. Respecting a student’s privacy is something I must do as both the principal and a senior."

Lake smiled upon hearing his words. It was indeed true that Principal Ralph was a kind hearted and principled man.

"My fitness index should be around Peak Martial Apprentice. With my skills and awakened abilities, I can fight evenly with a Low Rank Martial Warrior."

"As for how I defeated Kate, although her mana Fitness Index is that of a High Rank Martial Warrior, her mana reserves are even lower than even some Martial Apprentices which was why I was able to take advantage of it and win in the end."

"If it was a true High Rank Martial Warrior, with both an abundant mana reserves and strong Fitness Index, I wouldn’t have been able to last nearly as half as long as I did with Kate, who was also inexperienced with her current strength."

"Mhm." Principal Ralph nodded his head in agreement.

"Very well, I won’t keep you around after hearing everything I need. Unless you have something else you wish to ask me, you can leave."

At this point, Principal Ralph smiled kindly again.

However, before his smile could even fully form, Lake spoke out.

"Actually, I do have something I would like to discuss..."
