Chapter 182: Megarifts
Chapter 182: Chapter 182: Megarifts
[Breaking News: Massive Megarifts Discovered
This morning at 3:05 AM, four enormous mana signatures were detected by the MAA monitoring department from the north, east, south, and west. Upon investigation, these signatures were identified as four massive rifts that are speculated to have formed simultaneously. All of them are of equal size and proportion, with unprecedented mana readings that are speculated to be the highest in history. They have been dubbed ’megarifts,’ and access to them has been restricted by the MAA and government authorities.
What does the sudden appearance of these megarifts mean? What kind of creatures will be discovered within? Is the government planning to take on the rift, or is humanity witnessing the birth of the second Disaster? Find out more from our following sources...]
Reading the news report, Lake sighed as he tried to calm his growing headache.
Four megarifts? Unprecedented mana readings? The coming of the Second Disaster?
All of it made zero sense, and the whole report had a feeling of rushed and amateur writing. However, the fact that it was sent directly to everyone’s wristwatch and that the source seemed to be government officials proved that the report had some credibility.
’Whoever wrote this is either going to be severely punished or imprisoned for inciting potential widespread panic..’
Before sitting back down, Lake sighed at the thought. Everyone else was already busy discussing the news and had seemingly forgotten about Lake, allowing him to finally relax.
It didn’t take long for the rest of the students to enter the classroom and join the discussion. Even people like Sylph and Kate were dragged into the conversation, freeing Lake from even more stress.
Lake took a glance at Kate but accidentally made eye contact. They both stared at each other for a moment before Kate turned away with almost no change in facial expression, continuing her conversation with the others.
Lake had a wry smile as he saw this. With his eyes, he could notice even the smallest change in expression and was able to read Kate like an open book.
’I guess it’s going to be a little awkward between us for a while...’ Lake shook his head as the thought of his parents once again entered his mind.
He entered the orphanage before he was even a month old and had no memory of them, so he was always curious as to who they were. Why did they abandon him? Where are they now? What are they doing, and how was their life after they left him?
These are all questions he used to wonder about when he was little, and as he grew, it still remained a lingering thought in his mind. Now that he had finally found a connection to them, he wanted to find out their answer.
The bell rang, signaling the start of class, as Professor Cedric walked in. His gaze swept over everyone, causing them to quiet down. It seemed that he didn’t care about the news and calmly started his lecture on Mana Theory.

A few days passed, and soon it was Friday.
Lake had kept busy training the students and attending classes to collect a few points. During this time, he barely spoke with Sylph and Kate.
He didn’t want any more rumors spreading about him and Sylph, and it seemed that Iris had taken up an active role in supervising her, trying her best to keep her away from him.
As for Kate, she attended his training sessions, but, as expected, things were still awkward between them. They did greet each other whenever they met, but Kate would quickly leave right after.
Thankfully, nobody was able to notice anything strange between them since they were both skilled at controlling their expressions, and although it was slightly awkward for them, it wasn’t that much different from their past interactions.
Kate and Lake would only seek out each other if they wanted something from each other, so it wasn’t too strange to see them barely interacting.
Right now, Lake sat outside the transfer station on a bench. He had already checked their fates and knew they would be arriving through the teleporter soon.
After a few seconds, a few familiar voices could be heard.
"Ahh...I fucking hate spiders..." The voice of a young man sounded out. His muscular body was covered in a sticky web-like substance as he struggled to walk forward, his feet constantly sticking to the ground.
"I know what you mean..." Another young man’s voice echoed the first. His slender body was also similarly covered in webs as he walked beside the muscular man.
"Aww, come on guys, did you really struggle to deal with a few itsy-bitsy spiders?" Suddenly, the mocking voice of a blonde-haired woman sounded out. Compared to the other two, who were covered from head to toe, she was pristine, with only a few strands of web in her hair.
The pair of men fell into silence as they turned to look at each other.
"...Landur, you know I don’t like to fight girls, right?" The muscular man spoke, his gaze dead yet clearly indicating his intent.
"Funny that you say that, Jayce." Landur spoke as he turned away from Jayce to face the blonde woman, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
The woman frowned, watching his actions as he calmly spoke. "I don’t have any such problem."
Whoosh!
Before any of them could react, Landur lunged at the woman as he latched onto her in a bear hug, the sticky web on his body rubbing off on her.
"Aw! Gross! This is sexual assault, Landur!"
"Ahh, I have no clue what you’re talking about, Hana. I’m just lovingly embracing my childhood friend." Landur spoke as a satisfied smile appeared on his face.
Suddenly, Hana felt a shiver as she felt a large palm on a particularly sensitive area. She blushed deeply before shouting loudly at Landur. "Hey! Watch where you’re touching!"
"Please don’t kid yourself. If I wanted to touch someone, I would much rather grab Jayce’s pecs than your flat ass." Landur had an expression of disdain but suddenly froze as his expression turned wry.
"Then why aren’t you moving your hands?!" Hana was pounding on his chest as she tried to push him away, but the cobwebs kept them bound together.
"They’re stuck..." Landur suddenly murmured.
"You’re lying..." Hana’s expression slowly stiffened as an uneasy feeling started to build up in her heart.
"I wish I was..."
"...." Silence momentarily descended between the two but was quickly broken by a thunderous bellow from both of them.
"HELP! I’M BEING ASSAULTED!!"
"FUCK OFF! THIS IS ALL BECAUSE OF YOUR BIG MOUTH IN THE FIRST PLACE!!"
"What?! Now you’re insulting me after getting your hands full?!"
"It’s not like there was anything much to grab in the first place!"
Hana was furious while listening to Landur and gave him a swift kick to the shin.
"Urgh! Bitch!" Landur shouted out in pain as he instinctively recoiled his leg, causing the web on his feet to tangle with Hana’s and causing them both to trip and fall atop one another.
"Gwen! Please get us out of this!" Hana couldn’t take this much more and turned to the fourth person, who had been watching everything silently for a while now.
She had less cobweb on her compared to Jayce or Landur, but more than Hana. Seeing the two of them stuck together, she couldn’t help but smile.
"I think the two of you look good like that." Gwen spoke as she took a step back, pulling out her wristwatch’s camera function. "Maybe you should stay like that for a while longer."
""DON’T YOU DARE TAKE A PICTURE OF US!""
Hana and Landur shouted out in unison, causing Gwen to chuckle.
Lake, who sat on a bench not too far away, couldn’t help but sigh.
"There’s never a dull moment with these third years..."
