Chapter 162: Chapter 162: Maxed Out Mage Role
Luckily, it didn’t take long for Alec to get a reply from the board.
After the two of them chatted, Alec put in the call and managed to get an answer from the board within a few minutes.
"Well, congratulations, Lake. It seems that your request was accepted by the board."
"Indeed, but I’m not too happy about this either..." I replied with a sigh.
As a condition for the request to go through, the Academy decided to raise his point quota for the exam.
From the original 1,000 point requirement, it had risen to 100,000. Considering the fact that a single Rank One creature only gave ten points, that was equivalent to having to kill ten thousand creatures.
’Even if I sweep through both the Bug Forest and Swamp Region, I doubt I would be able to hit that number...’
The Academy was once again showing its true colors with these requirements.
Luckily, however, the Academy was a little more merciful than before in the fact that they increased the points for higher-tier creatures. A Rank Two creature was now worth 1,000 points each.
That’s right; the Academy made these requirements under the assumption that I would be able to hunt down a Rank Two creature. The only place that would have that many Rank Two creatures in the Field was naturally the Bay Region.
Considering that the Bay Region was filled with hundreds of Rank Two aquatic creatures swimming around within its water, it wouldn’t be too hard to hunt them down.
’But even for me, a hundred Rank Two creatures are going to be difficult with everything going on in the background...’ I felt a slight headache at this thought, but there was nothing I could do about it.
I probably wasn’t going to pass the test this time considering the unknown status of the Bay Region.
After mulling over everything, I sighed again before getting up from my chair.
"Alright, if that’s all, I should probably be heading out now. I don’t want to waste any more time considering the absurd difficulty of my new test."
"Sure. I wish you luck on your test." Alec snickered as he saw me leaving.
I decided to ignore him for now. When we get back to the Academy, I’ll be sure to give him hell in return.
As I left Alec’s room, I noticed the cracked wall opposite me and the torn book on the floor. A few staff of the inn were looking in confusion at what happened but I tactically activated Stealth before slipping away.
’Not my problem.’
I entered my room without the staff outside noticing, before walking towards my bed and sitting down.
’Bramble hasn’t returned yet... Good.’
After confirming Bramble’s absence, I immediately pulled out my system interface. I originally didn’t intend to use any points before I unlocked Bloom, but the situation had changed.
I wanted to get at least one more insurance before I head out to the bay.
I didn’t have to worry about escape as Master of Stealth and Parkour Master covered that area well enough for now. What I wanted was instead something that could help me wipe out a large amount of monsters in one go.
After going through all of his skills, the only one that met his requirement was obvious.
[Spellcasting Lv2 - A mage’s basic ability is to manipulate the magical energy within their body to cast spells. At the current level, you can manipulate the magical energy within and outside your body to perform intermediate spells.]
[Detected Host has chosen to upgrade Spellcasting skill, does the host wish to proceed?]
"Yes."
[The Host’s agreement has been confirmed.]
[3,000 RP points have been deducted.]
[Beginning upgrade...]
As I laid on the bed, I closed my eyes as I felt my senses quickly fading away. When everything went blank, the upgrade process had already begun.

"Hah..." Kate sighed as she read through last night’s news. The students had showcased a stellar performance through their midnight hunt, gaining the praise of the guardian hunters by slaughtering over hundreds of beasts in a few hours.
As she read through the news, she couldn’t help but shake her head. She had been busy recovering her expended mana and relieving her mental fatigue from hunting with Lake, so she didn’t participate in the event. Lake also seemed to have known this as he didn’t even bother to call her out when he was organizing the event.
Opening some group chats she was a part of, she decided to spend her time browsing through the chats to see how everyone was doing. Although the teachers still hadn’t created the report yet, it didn’t stop the students from talking about last night’s events on the forum.
As a future guildmaster, she valued these small little details very much, as it allowed her to get insight into her guild members and future allies’ thoughts.
However, contrary to what one might expect, the reactions of the students that had taken part in the midnight hunt weren’t good.
[Leroy - I wanna go home...]
[Reggie - I don’t think I could make it another day...]
[Edric - I hate my life]
[Conner - Come on, guys, it wasn’t that bad?]
[Edric - Shut up, loser!]
[Edric - @#$!% piece of %$@#! Go $!#@! yourself!]
[Reggie - It was so bad he started censoring himself.]
[Reggie - Also, go $!#@! yourself, @Conner!]
[Leroy - Also, go $!#@! yourself, @Conner!]
Kate smiled wryly seeing everyone start to curse out Conner. From what she knew, Conner was the only one among the students who actually took pleasure in Lake’s training.
He said it was something about accepting pain to get stronger, but everyone just called him a masochist instead.
Although Kate wasn’t there, she could roughly figure out what must’ve happened to be getting these reactions. To verify her guesses, she opened another group chat.
[Xoey - Someone, send help! I almost died four times last night!]
[Maia - @Xoey, only? I almost got eaten four times, bled to death two times, and smashed to death three times.]
[Xoey - @Maia, crazy!]
[Fiona - This sucks...]
[Xoey - What’s up, Fio? I barely noticed you when we returned.]
[Xoey - Granted, I was still coping with life, but I did notice that you looked a little down.]
[Fiona - Conner got more points than me last night... Hateful!]
[Xoey - (ㆆ ᴗ ㆆ)??]
[Xoey - Aren’t you guys dating now? Isn’t that a good thing?]
[Fiona - What does dating have to do with him doing better than me?]
[Xoey - Wow. That’s crazy.]
[Maia - They’re a match made in heaven.]
Kate giggled a little bit seeing that the group had descended into girls’ gossip. As she was about to join in too, however, she suddenly received a call from her wristband.
When she saw the caller’s ID, her eyes widened in surprise as a hint of panic filled her face.
[Incoming Call - Dad]
Upon seeing her father calling, Kate recalled the unusual promise she had made with Lake a few days ago. She had vowed to use her guild to shield Lake from anyone who discovered his identity as the King and sought to recruit him.
Although she wasn’t sure why he wanted this, Lake had promised to join her guild if she helped him, and she wasn’t about to pass up the chance to recruit someone like him.
However, she never expected that, not even two days later, someone had already tried to contact Lake, forcing her to use her guild’s influence to fend them off.
Unfortunately, it didn’t stop with just one person, and Kate had to repeatedly block potential scouts from other guilds and reporters from various media companies.
This repeated use of power wouldn’t go unnoticed by the higher-ups in her guild, namely her father. She had anticipated her father reaching out eventually, but due to the exam and Lake’s antics, it had slipped to the back of her mind.
Now that her father was calling, she slightly panicked, caught off guard. Thankfully, she quickly adapted and recalled the prewritten lines she had planned.
As she answered the call, calming her nerves, she heard her father’s unnaturally cold voice even before she could speak.
[Kate, we need to talk.]
Her mind went blank for a moment.
"W-What did you call me..?"
[Kate. This is serious.]
Her body shivered at the unfamiliar way her father addressed her. Normally, he would call her "Sweetheart" or "my little girl," but he had never spoken her name in such a cold way before.
As a feeling of worry began to grow in her heart, she finally responded to her father, her voice laced with trepidation.

Meanwhile, Lake, laid out on his bed, was in the process of going through an extraordinary change.
[Spellcasting Lv2 has successfully been upgraded to Lv3(Max).]
[Spellcasting lv3(Max) - A mage’s basic ability is to manipulate the magical energy within their body to cast spells. At the current level, you can manipulate the magical energy within and outside your body to perform advanced spells. Additionally, you can affect the mana of others around by a certain degree depending on the difference in ability.]
The upgrade was completed, and its effects were simple yet powerful. Just the ability to cast advanced spells was already extraordinary, yet now he could even affect the mana of others.
To say this had been a fruitful upgrade would be an understatement.
However, what was truly strange was despite the upgrade having been completed, Lake still hadn’t woken up from his senseless state.
He was still floating around in that pitch-black void in his head, but no new knowledge or information was flooding his head like when he previously upgraded his skills.
’What’s going on..?’
