Chapter 115: The Blood Moon!

Chapter 115: Chapter 115: The Blood Moon!

In the female dormitory of the academy, Kate sat before her desk in her room.

She had a slight frown on her face as she pondered the message before her.

[Lake: Send a Martial Master to the Moonlight Theater.]

It was one line and sent without any explanation, leaving Kate utterly confused.

She didn’t question the location of the Moonlight Theater as she had visited it a few times as a child.

She also didn’t question why he asked her in particular to send a Martial Master. The Moonlight Theater was located in the same city as the Blackheart Guild’s headquarters.

What left her confused however was why he needed a Martial Master at the theater.

She knew tonight was the Moon Bright Festival and that the whole city would be in a festive state. Both Martial Artists and civilians alike would be rushing in to witness the Lunar Mana descending from the sky.

Normally she would also be there as the Lunar Mana was extremely beneficial to her technique. Unfortunately she couldn’t leave the academy so she would have to miss the festival this year.

Thankfully it didn’t affect her practice much as with the modifications Lake had made to her technique, even without the Lunar Mana, she could make up for the lost progress with a few days of dedicated meditation.

Looking at the sudden message, Kate began to wonder.

Lake had sent the message a few moments ago to which she replied with a question mark.

However, even after a few minutes passed, Kate never got back a reply.

"The theater is located in the center of the city so there shouldn’t be any problems with security... but if that was the case, why did he want a Martial Master?"

"With his strength he should be able to get out of most situations below the Martial Master realm so does that mean something happened in the theater that required a Martial Master to make a move?"

Kate started to think deeply about the possible meaning of Lake’s message.

No monster should be able to appear within the city as the city borders were usually heavily guarded during the festival so it would be impossible for one to sneak in.

Rifts were also out for similar reasons. If one did appear, the city scanners should be able to pick up on it and even if one didn’t show up within its range, the moment a monster appeared anywhere in the city, the hunters on standby would be dispatched immediately so there was nothing to seriously worry about.

Besides these two reasons, she couldn’t think of any other possible encounters that would require a Martial Master to come to the theater.

"Wait... it couldn’t be..."

As Kate was thinking of possible reasons, she suddenly came across a train of thought that turned her expression grim.

In case of a disaster inside a city that didn’t involve monsters or rifts, the only other option left was a man-made one.

"Terrorists... If it’s them they wouldn’t miss this chance to attack..."

Kate’s eyes flickered as the details of a certain organization appeared in her mind.

If it really was them, Lake was in a lot more danger than he may have thought.

However, her thoughts were only mere speculation at best. If she wanted to convince her guild to send out a Martial Master to investigate the theater, it was going to be difficult without any evidence.

At most, the guild would send out a scout first to investigate the situation and by the time they report back, it might be too late.

Although she didn’t know if Lake was in danger or if the situation was truly as dangerous as she thought, just the small probability of it being true was enough to make her move.

Using her wristband, she dialed a number she hadn’t called for a while.

After ringing for a few seconds, the person on the other end of the call picked up.

"H-hey daddy, I wonder if you’re free now." Kate spoke in a slightly sweet voice she didn’t use often to the caller on the other end of the phone.

"Hmm? Sweetheart, what’s up? I’m currently training."

Listening to her dad’s voice on the other end, Kate could hear the soft delight in his voice from her call.

Although she didn’t have a bad relationship with her dad, ever since he had stopped her from investigating Lake’s background, the two of them didn’t really talk much.

Kate’s dad had sensed this sudden distance between them and had been stressing over how to mend their relationship for a long time. Now that she took the initiative to call him on her own, his joy couldn’t be described in a few words.

Knowing that his opportunity had come, he quickly responded.

"Although I’m training now, since you called I guess I could clear up sometime for my daughter."

"Mhn, thanks dad! You’re the best!"

Kate skillfully used fake words filled with passion to manipulate her father.

Although she knew that he probably already knew what she was trying to do, she didn’t care as she knew these words were more than enough to please her father.

"Haha! Oh~ Come on, no need to be so serious. If my baby girl asks for something, of course I have to do my best!"

Hearing her father’s elated voice, a small smirk appeared on Kate’s face but she didn’t let it affect her voice.

"Thanks. Actually what I want from you isn’t much. I was just wondering if you could check on something for me..."

As Kate continued to talk to her father, unbeknownst to Lake, the strongest backup he could have asked for was on its way.

....

A few minutes had passed since Lake found the rift.

Although he wasn’t certain that the rift was actually in the mana storm, Lake was 99% sure that his guess was accurate.

In the auditorium below, it looked like the play was finally about to begin as the audience began to quiet down.

Lake watched the stage intently. He may have figured out the cause for the massacre, but he still hadn’t figured out the reason for the disruption in the Web of Fate.

Soon, a woman wearing a red dress walked out from behind the curtains on the stage.

She was tall and had a graceful appearance with a charming smile on her face.

As Lake saw this person however, his eyes visibly shook. Looking at her fate, Lake was deeply shocked.

Worming and twisting above her head was a black fate, the likes of which Lake had never seen before. It looked like an amalgamation of mold and dirt with wart like protrusions sticking out from it as an ominous mist swirled inside.

The fate looked so disgusting that even Lake, who had grown accustomed to blood and gore, felt like throwing up.

He felt like he had laid his eyes on something that was not of this world and simply shouldn’t exist within its natural bounds.

However, despite his repulsion towards her fate, Lake still steeled himself and tried to observe the woman’s fate.

"Urgh!"

To Lake’s shock, when he tried to observe the fate, he felt a repulsion force that directly kicked his prying eye away.

It wasn’t like Gwen’s silver veil that protected her fate from his eyes or Bradford’s fate that was impossible for Lake to view in the first place.

Instead, it felt more like someone was actively telling him to fuck off while kicking him at their front door.

His eyes felt a stinging sensation causing him severe pain.

Thankfully with a heal spell, most of the pain faded away yet Lake still felt terrible.

It was as if he had stumbled across his natural enemy and a feeling of hatred couldn’t help but well up inside him.

Gritting his teeth, he continued to look at the woman on the stage, this time using his senses to observe.

....

"Welcome, dear guest, to this year’s Moon Bright Festival special! It is an honor to have you here tonight."

The woman spoke in a cool yet charming tone, enticing the attention of the guests.

"Tonight we have a special event for all of you. My team and I guarantee that this event will be like nothing you’ve ever seen before."

As the woman spoke, a mysterious smile appeared on her red lips as she raised her hands and clapped twice.

Whoosh!

The curtains flung open revealing the backstage to the audience.

A row of men and women stood at attention watching the audience in the crowd.

Each of them were unparalleled in appearance, however, looking at their pale white skin and sickly appearance, one may think that they were all seriously ill.

They all wore simple black robes covering their entire body, leaving only their face revealed.

"Unfortunately, the original team that was meant to perform tonight had an unfortunate accident and wouldn’t be able to make it in time for the play. That’s why the Moonlight theater will be led by my wonderful cast of guest actors and support team tonight."

"However, this play is a little unique in the fact that it requires its audiences to participate in it as well. How exciting is that!"

This time, hearing the woman’s words, the audience was visibly surprised as shocked murmurs began to fill the auditorium.

As the audience paid attention to the woman on the stage, no one noticed that the exits had been shut tight as a few men also in black robes appeared around the massive auditorium.

A dark barrier had begun to slowly envelop the entire auditorium unbeknownst to the clueless audience in the stands.

"Now that introductions are out of the way. Why don’t we finally get this play underway? Without further ado, I present you a play created by the lovely Prestige."

"The Blood Moon!"
