Chapter 110: Chapter 110: Web of Fate

"H..."

Lake’s consciousness was blurred as he woke up.

The mind numbing headache had eased up at this point.

He was no longer in the Simplistic Realm but felt that he had returned to his own body.

"Wake... up..."

He could vaguely hear a voice calling out to him. His senses still seemed to be dulled but they were quickly returning to him.

As Lake’s senses returned to him, he slowly opened his eyes to the blonde figure in front of him.

"Hey! Get up already! I still need you to pay for my vacation!"

"...."

Just as quickly as Lake opened his eyes, he closed it back just as fast.

"Hey! Don’t pretend to go back to sleep!"

....

After Hana gave Lake the wake up call, everyone gathered together again at the front of the hotel.

They were all wearing a simple white shirt and pants. It was the spare clothes the hotel staff had lent them after seeing the condition of the battle suits they came here in.

Lake still had a slight headache but he put up with it and followed Hana as she dragged him out of the room.

Standing in front of the hotel, Hana was examining herself, a dissatisfied expression on her face.

"These white clothes are really horrible. I feel like I just escaped from a mental health facility."

"Hehe, you sure you didn’t?" Landur replied with a smirk.

Hana only snorted.

"Gwen, where do you think we should go as we obviously can’t leave it up to these fools."

Hearing Hana’s question, Gwen smiled awkwardly as she spoke, "I personally don’t mind. After all, this trip wasn’t really planned so anywhere is fine with me."

"Then it’s settled, let’s go shopping first! I don’t want to walk around the festival dressed like a mental health patient!"

Everyone only smiled at Hana’s words before they looked over to Lake.

It was his money they were using so ultimately he had the final say.

Seeing their gaze, Lake calculated for a moment before saying, "We can go, but the total can’t exceed five hundred between the four of you."

The money he had on him was from his bank account. Luckily he had kept his card inside the system’s storage space so he was able to access it.

During his hunt in the Ruins of Star City, he had already amassed more than ten thousand dollars but he refrained from spending too much on his seniors.

The only reason he even offered to spend money on them was to foster a better relationship with them so that their future hunts could go more smoothly when he worked with them.

If it was anyone else, Lake wouldn’t have even said a word about his money.

He still remembered the pain of living frugally from his high school days so he didn’t dare to spend his money carelessly.

"Alright! Let’s go then!" Hana shouted excitedly. Although five hundred wasn’t that much split between them, it was more than enough to buy a full set of clothing which was all she needed for the night.

....

Almost three hours later, Lake, Jayce, and Landur finally walked out of the shopping mall.

The three men had a dead look in their eyes as the two girls walked behind them.

"Junior... How long did it take us to buy our clothes..."

"It took us fifteen minutes total for the three of us to buy our clothes, senior." Lake answered Jayce in a dry voice.

".... Let’s never shop with Hana again..."

"Agreed..."

"Alright, let’s go to get something for lunch now!" Hana suddenly said.

"Mhm, let’s go get something to eat." Landur, for once, agreed with Hana. Although he still had a dead look on his face, one could see the glimmer in his eyes at the mention of food.

Lake shook his head and was about to follow the two with the rest of the group, however, he picked up something with his senses causing him to come to a stop.

"Hmm?"

Gwen noticed Lake’s sudden pause as he stared off into a crowded street in a daze.

"Aren’t you coming with us?"

"Huh? I mean, yeah, yeah I’m coming." Lake seemed to come back to his senses as he followed after everyone.

Gwen tilted her head slightly before looking in the direction where Lake was watching in a daze.

It was a crowded street. Many people were walking about and a few stalls were being set up for the festival tonight.

Gwen didn’t seem to notice anything out of the ordinary so she continued to walk with the rest of the group.

As Lake walked with everyone, he seemed to be lost in thought.

"I didn’t expect those two to be here..."

Thinking back to the two figures, Lake felt his headache worsen a little bit.

....

In the streets of Moonbright City, two figures walked with their arms crossed.

One was quite short with pale white skin and long black hair cascading down her back. She wore a slightly gothic style of clothing making her look like a doll.

As she walked, she spoke to the taller girl beside her, "So, what do you think about the city?"

"I think it’s quite lively." The tall figure spoke as she stared off into the distance.

Looking at her friend’s daze, the short girl felt slightly annoyed.

Her friend was usually quite cute and always had a bright smile on her face, but ever since that incident, she often got lost in thought like this.

"Look, Evelyn, it’s been almost two months since you broke up with him and I can’t believe I’m telling you this again, but you should really move on by now."

"We didn’t really break up... After all, it wasn’t like we were together in the first place..." Evelyn spoke as she stared slightly downwards.

"Yes, yes, I heard it a thousand times at this point, but come on now! I brought you to the Moon Bright Festival wanting to cheer you up, but if you’re going to be down and out through it all, what’s the point?" Leah asked as she sighed.

Evelyn seemed to breathe in for a moment before finally raising her head, "You’re right. You brought me here to have fun yet here I am thinking about something else."

A smile slowly appeared on Evelyn’s face causing Leah to also smile in response.

"It’s good that you know! Now, the Moon Bright Festival doesn’t start till tonight, so let’s go walk around and have some fun until then!" Leah cheerfully said as she looked forward.

However, out of the corner of her eye, she saw a familiar person causing her to be momentarily stunned in place.

Evelyn seemed to notice her friend’s daze but before she could ask her what was wrong, she felt Leah pull her arm as they began to walk in the opposite direction.

"Hey! What’s going on? Why did we suddenly turn around?"

"Uh-am, I just remembered a good shopping area nearby, so I thought we’ll head there instead."

Evelyn seemed stunned at the obvious lie. Although Leah may have been able to trick some people with her excuse and cheerful tone, Leah was Evelyn’s friend for a long time and she had long picked up on her lying habits.

Turning around forcefully, she looked to see what Leah was staring at before, but when she looked, there was nothing that stood out to her.

Leah saw that the figure she had spotted had already disappeared around the corner causing her to breathe a sigh of relief.

"Look, let’s go! The shopping area is really good. I came here the last time with my mom and we spent the entire day walking around. I’ll show you some nice shops and we could pick out some new dresses."

Hearing this, Evelyn sighed. Although she didn’t know what made Leah suddenly so frantic, since she didn’t say, Evelyn wouldn’t ask.

"Fine. Let’s go."

....

Lake sat down inside a shop, eating with the rest of the group after they found a decent restaurant.

Everyone was devouring their food at an astonishing rate. Landur and Jayce ate like pigs as they inhaled everything that came onto the table.

Hana and Gwen were eating slightly more elegantly and at a slower pace than the two but they were still eating far more than any normal person would eat for one meal.

Lake also ate a good amount, but compared to his seniors, he was nothing.

However, while everyone was focusing on enjoying the "free" high class meal, Lake’s mind was elsewhere.

"So that’s why they’re here." Lake soon found the answer to why Evelyn and Leah were in the city.

After following the group to the restaurant, he felt a little curious about the two so he decided to take the chance to test out the upgraded Observer of Fate skill to find out.

After he had returned from the Simplistic Realm, the changes to the skill could only be described as divine.
