Chapter 106: Chapter 106: What’s dignity? Can it feed you?
BANG!
"ROARR!!!"
With a thunderous roar, the Lizard King broke through the rubble and debris that had blocked the entrance to the cave.
Its giant body straightened as it stood up on its two hind legs.
No longer was it restrained by the cramped space inside the tunnel and could now fully stretch to its full height of almost twelve feet tall.
Sniffing the air, the Lizard King quickly took notice of its lit up surroundings, the bright light irritating its eyes.
The group of normal Lizardmen also came out of the cave and rushed into the valley.
As the Lizard King was about to order its underlings to find the humans that raided its den, the sound of arrows whistling through the air caused the Lizard King to react almost instinctively.
Swoosh!
Swoosh!
However, despite reacting almost instantly, he was still a few steps slow as two of the Lizardmen furthest away from him were shot straight through the head.
Seeing two of its underlings die before it, the Lizard King was fueled with rage as it roared towards the direction the arrows came from.
The arrows flew from atop the valley opposite the cave entrance with a bright light shining down causing it to squint its eyes.
However, that didn’t stop the Lizard King from rushing towards the valley’s wall before jumping up, its sharp claws digging into the walls as its large body slithered its way up.
"Gwen!"
"On it!"
As the Lizard King crawled up the wall, a wave of silvery mana was sent flying towards it in the form of a sword light.
Whoosh!
Bang!
The sword light impacted firmly on the back of the Lizard King causing it to roar out in pain.
However, despite the sword light hitting the Lizard King, it still wasn’t enough to pierce through the rough scales that covered its large back, only leaving a white mark on them.
BAM!
The Lizard King’s fist slammed down as it crawled onto the top of the valley.
Its eyes shifted as it looked around trying to find the culprit that shot its underlings.
As it looked around it was quickly confused as it couldn’t find anyone in its immediate vision.
Slash!
Suddenly, the Lizard King felt a sharp pain on its thighs as its bloodshot eyes looked down.
BOOM!!
Gwen quickly jumped out of the way as the Lizard King’s fist as it smashed into the ground.
"ROARR!!"
With a loud roar, the Lizard King bolted towards Gwen, running on all fours with its large jaw unhinged, ready to snap down and bite the swordswoman before it in half.
Gwen immediately jumped out of the way as she stepped on the tip of its snout before jumping behind it.
Looking at the Lizard King that had swiftly turned around and slashed his claw at her, she swiftly raised her sword to block it.
BANG!
"Urgh!" With a muffled groan, Gwen flew back more than ten meters before landing on the ground with a roll.
Quickly standing back up, she raised her sword as she kept her eyes focused on the Lizard King.
"The rest is up to you... Don’t let me down."
As Gwen was engaged in a one-on-one fight with the Lizard King, Landur and Jayce had already engaged in combat with the rest of the Lizardmen below.
Using the narrow pathway up the valley, Jayce held most of the Lizardmen at bay while Landur dealt with the ones that tried to climb up from the side.
However, although the choke point gave them a great advantage, they were still quickly being overrun by the large swarm of Lizardmen that numbered in the twenties.
Landing on a small protrusion on the walls of the valley, Lake dropped off Hana before handing her his remaining arrows.
Just now, when the Lizard King had crawled up to find them, Lake had already picked up Hana and was prepared to run away immediately. Using the time frame when the Lizard King was distracted by Gwen’s initial sword strike, Lake jumped from one side of the valley to the next without the Lizard King noticing.
This was part of the plan Lake had cooked up after quickly analyzing the situation and the fates of the Lizardmen. He knew that the Lizard King was quick to get angry when members of its tribe were killed or injured so he used that to lure it into a one on one situation with Gwen, who could hold her own against a Peak Rank Two creature on her own despite her lower fitness index.
Using his Master Parkour Skill, he quickly scaled up the valley’s side before placing Hana down on a vantage point that overlooked the entire valley.
"Make sure to rain hell down on them."
"Hehe, you got it, first year." Hana said as an evil smile appeared on her face, "I screwed up inside the cave and Landur got the chance to look down on me. Now that I have both my weapon and an advantageous position, it’s time to reclaim my honor."
Lake only smiled before jumping down from the cliff, gliding towards the group of Lizardmen on the pathway with the support of the wind.
Looking down on everything, Lake’s eyes gradually turned cold as a merciless smile appeared on his face.
Bang!
Lake glided towards a Lizardman in the middle of the swarm before kicking it in the face as he rolled forward.
No matter how good Lake’s stealth skill was, he couldn’t avoid the eyes of all the Lizardmen surrounding him, but that was never his plan.
Slash!
As he rolled forward, he used his claws to tear the throat of a Lizardman apart before kicking its body towards the rest of the Lizardman climbing up the pathway.
Swoosh!
Stepping back, Lake narrowly avoided a spear that was aimed at his side before grabbing it, and kicking the Lizardman who held it in the stomach, causing it to release its grip on the spear.
With the spear in hand, Lake’s Weapon Master Skill kicked in as he used it to block three others stabbing towards him.
However, another spear was coming at him from behind causing Lake to to turn around and hurl his spear.
Swoosh!
Pierce!
The spear stabbed into the Lizardman’s throat.
Lake quickly rushed forward, grabbing both the spear the Lizardman was using to stab him as well as the spear that was stuck in its throat.
Splurt!
Pulling the spear out caused blood to splash around everywhere, covering both Lake and the Lizardmen around him.
With blood dripping from his face, Lake turned to the rest of the Lizardmen that surrounded him.
"RAH!"
With a battle shout, Lake successfully intimidated the surrounding Lizardmen causing them to step back momentarily in fear.
Swoosh!
Swoosh!
Swoosh!
While Lake was slaughtering Lizardmen after Lizardmen, Hana was busy raining down countless arrows towards the Lizardmen that were trying to climb the wall and giving support towards Landur and Jayce.
Lake’s movements were too sporadic and fast so she dared not shoot towards the swarm that surrounded him lest she shot him instead.
Instead, she aimed at the ones a few meters away from him, providing occasional assistance.
As the battle went on, more and more Lizardmen corpses piled up as the heavy smell of blood permeated the valley.
Even with all the support and his skills, Lake still sustained several injuries throughout the fight.
There were countless cuts both big and small across his body. Thanks to his armor, he didn’t sustain any serious injuries and all the cuts that covered his body were mostly slash marks that appeared after he chose to narrowly avoid the attack before immediately countering.
Landur and Jayce were slightly worse off than Lake. Although they also only sustained mostly light injuries, their wounds quickly stacked up and they were bleeding quite a lot.
They didn’t have the chance to focus their mana on their wounds so they were only getting weaker and weaker as the battle went on.
However, as more and more Lizardmen died, the rate at which they got injured was greatly lowered and after only a few minutes, they had mostly killed off the swarm of Lizardmen.
"Hah...hah..."
After the last Lizardman was killed, Landur and Jayce immediately collapsed to the floor, greatly exhausted.
They were bleeding heavily and their mana reserves were low.
Lake was also slightly exhausted after the battle but his stamina was far higher than Landur and Jayce’s who mainly relied on mana to boost their endurance and recovery.
He was soaked in blood and his clothes were ripped and torn but he still spoke out.
"Can you guys keep fighting?"
"Hah... First year, look at us, do you think we could even fight a regular Lizardman in our current condition, much less a super lizard?"
"Junior, I would love to get up and fight alongside you, but my body just isn’t up for it.... hah.."
Seeing that the two were really out of commission, Lake quickly nodded before walking up to them.
Using half of the remaining mana in his body, he casted two Heal spells that helped the two recover a little of their strength.
"Get somewhere safe for now. We’ll take care of the rest." Lake spoke as he got up.
As the two watched Lake quickly rush up the valley where Gwen was engaged in an intense fight with the Lizard King, Landur couldn’t help but speak.
"I don’t care how shameless it may seem, I’m begging him to teach me that healing skill after this."
Jayce’s eyelid twitched slightly at this but he quickly spoke up, "You’ll tell me how it goes and find out if he’s willing to teach two."
"Bastard, why don’t you come beg with me?"
"A real man has dignity."
"Bah! What’s dignity? Can it feed you?"
