Save Electricity

Recap of previous events. Massive Kangaroo has evolved into Thunder Massive Kangaroo!

So, let’s go, Masaru! 100,000 amps!!

"...(scratch scratch)..."

"Hey, I’m talkin’ to you. Why’re you scratchin’ your butt with such a pissed-off look...?"

But no matter how much I urged Masaru to use his electric shock, he just kept scratching his butt like, "The hell I gotta do that for?" Yeah, real rough and full of attitude...

(Hmm... still as stubborn as ever...)

But then again, maybe that’s just how Masaru the Kandaroo is.

Even when we used the Skill Orb out of goodwill, he probably thought, "The hell’re they makin’ me do now?" And now, on top of that, we’re telling him to use some electric shock he’s never even tried before—no wonder he’s completely lost.

So, when Masaru scratches his butt like that, it’s not just stress—it’s also kinda like a warning, like, "Shut your damn mouth while I’m scratchin’ here."

In other words, what the pipe was to Maeda Keiji, butt-scratching is to Masaru the Kangaroo.

"Ugh, this is tough..."

I do want him to use the skill, but if I push too hard and he gets sulky, that’ll be a problem.

"Hey, c’mon Masaru, try using the electric shock. Y’know, like, zappy zappy!"

"Yeah, yeah! I wanna see Masaru-chan lookin’ all cool too!"

But as I stood there arms crossed, deep in thought, two people way more interested in the [Electric] skill than me started buttering Masaru up.

(Nice, you two! Even a pig can climb a tree if you flatter it enough. And if you flatter a kangaroo, maybe it’ll even shoot out some lightning!)

Alright, guess I’ll join in on the flattery train too.

"Nice muscles! Lookin’ sharp today, Masaru! Seriously, it’s like there’s an oni’s face on your back. Y’know what? When we first saw you, we actually thought an oni had appeared!"

"Yeah, yeah! An oni! Oh, now that I think about it, oni and the Thunder God are kinda similar, right? Hey, Masaru! C’mon, do the zappy zappy~!"

"Yeahhh! Thunder Masaru Masaruuu~!"

And maybe that flattery worked? Masaru, sandwiched between Nina-san and Serai-san, mumbled something under his breath—then glowed faintly for just a second.

"Huh...?"

"Did he just glow??"

The two standing beside him didn’t seem to notice, but from where I was standing right in front, I saw it clearly.

"Yeah, Masaru definitely glowed just now. Must’ve used the [Electric] skill."

"But... we didn’t feel anythin’ at all..."

"Hmm..."

Just like Nina-san said, the two were right next to Masaru, even touching him, but they didn’t feel so much as a tingle—just tilted their heads in confusion.

"Hey, Masaru, try doin’ it again!"

"Mmph... grmph..."

But this time, no glow—just his long head fur puffing up a bit. Probably staticky from the discharge.

"Hmm. Well, it’s his first time, so this much is fine. Yeah yeah, good job, Masaru."

"Ehh? That’s it...?"

Serai-san, though, seemed pretty disappointed with the results.

"Don’t push him, Serai-san. Just being able to use it right after learning it is impressive. Plus, we don’t even know how much magical energy Masaru can generate. If we push him too hard and he collapses in the dungeon, dragging him back would be a pain."

"Yeah, true... But why didn’t we get shocked, though?"

Hmm. If we consider that first glow as a spark, then Nina-san and Serai-san, who were touching Masaru, should’ve been electrocuted.

"Well... maybe the electricity traveled along the surface of the suit and grounded out?"

"Oh! I think I know that one! Like how you’re safe inside a car if lightning hits it, right?"

"Oh, spot on! You know your stuff, Serai-san."

"Heheh! Saw it on a TV show once!"

Ah, that makes sense. Metal cars conduct electricity way better than human bodies.

So if there’s an easier path, electricity will take it—which is why people inside lightning-struck cars can sometimes walk away unharmed. (Though if you’re unlucky, you can still get zapped.)

By the way, based on the Insect King Suit’s data alone—yeah, the suit conducts electricity.

After making the suit, I ran all kinds of durability tests. At one point, I hooked up booster cables to a battery and made an arc. But doing that too much damages the battery, so I kept it at a "Yep, it conducts" level of testing.

But if monsters start pulling off electric body slams, I might have to look into that more seriously.
