My Princess and Crown Prince Are Revived -
Chapter 400 Grand Finale Part One
Chapter 400: Chapter 400 Grand Finale Part One
"Since my imperial brother has allowed me to make a decision, then I shall make one."
Chu Baihan withdrew her gaze, her entire presence turning colder.
"Although the Zhu Family made a mistake, they have indeed made meritorious contributions. Just now, I have already pleaded for a grace from my imperial brother to spare the members of the Zhu Family."
"However, I hope the Zhu Family will not make any more foolish mistakes in the future. At that time, not even I would be able to protect you."
After she spoke these words, everyone began to breathe a sigh of relief.
Zhu Liqun felt lucky, but his legs were so weak that he needed the support of others to stand up.
Zhu Xinyue was right beside him.
She initially wanted to offer help, but suddenly recalling something, she gave a bitter smile, "Father resents me so much, he certainly wouldn’t like it if I were to help you."
Having said that, she moved aside, her expression cold.
Zhu Liqun’s face stiffened, and in the end, he could only look away sheepishly as the servants helped him up.
"Xinyue, come here."
Just as Zhu Xinyue stood in isolation, Chu Baihan suddenly gestured to her.
Zhu Xinyue’s expression brightened, and she hurriedly ran over,
"There is a spot next to me, you sit down," Chu Baihan said softly.
Zhu Xinyue’s nose tingled at once, and she felt like crying.
She knew that the Princess had seen her discomfort among the Zhu Family and had especially made room for her.
"Okay, thank you, Princess."
Zhu Xinyue wasn’t pretentious; she quickly sat down.
She really didn’t want to stay with the Zhu Family any longer.
"I’m sorry, Princess, for hiding that matter from you," she said with a tone of guilt.
When it came down to it, she was the ungrateful one.
The Princess had treated her so well, yet she hadn’t said a word to the Princess about the affairs of the Zhu Family.
"You were raised by the Zhu Family; if you could really betray them so easily, I would actually have to question your integrity," Chu Baihan said without any trace of anger, and continued, "Let’s put that matter behind us, it shall be water under the bridge. Today, I have seen quite a few young lords, and you are also of marrying age now. Have you seen anyone who caught your eye?"
By the end, Chu Baihan began to suggest suitors for Zhu Xinyue.
"Princess, Yueyue is still young. The matter of her marriage can be discussed later,"
It was at this moment that Zhu Yinian stood up anxiously, his expression tense.
There was only one thought in his mind: he couldn’t let Yueyue marry someone else, or else he would regret it for the rest of his life.
"General Zhu’s words are not quite right. As far as I know, girls of Xinyue’s age in Tongzhou City have long been married, and some even have children," Jian Yun said with a light smile.
Zhu Yinian’s face became rigid, and several times he opened his mouth, unsure of how to retort.
Yes, Yueyue was indeed of age to be given in marriage.
Yet, these past few years, he had been the one to turn away suitors who came knocking.
In retrospect, he truly was a despicable wretch.
Worrying that being with her would bring the judgment of society, yet unable to bear her marrying someone else, he thus impeded her pursuit of happiness.
Seeing Zhu Yinian’s distressed state, Chu Baihan and Jian Yun exchanged a glance; they both understood what was on his mind.
Chu Baihan snorted coldly.
This Zhu Yinian, if it were a question of leading troops in battle, he indeed had talent.
But if it were up to him to be a brother or a husband, he was destined to be unsuitable for either role.
"Since General Zhu cannot clarify, let’s continue discussing Xinyue’s marriage. Xinyue, do you have someone in mind?"
When Chu Baihan’s gaze fell upon Zhu Xinyue, his expression softened considerably.
Zhu Xinyue understood that the Princess was taking her side.
She opened her mouth to say something, but at that moment, a handsome man exuding a strong masculine presence strode forward.
"Princess, my name is Su Gaoxuan, Deputy General of Tongzhou City. I met Miss Zhu years ago and fell in love with her at first sight. I have thought of her ever since, but alas, I did not have any notable accomplishments and thus did not dare to propose to her."
"But I am fully aware that if I do not seize the opportunity, I will miss out on this fine lady, so I boldly declare my intentions here. I hope the Princess and Miss Zhu will give me a chance."
Hmm?
Wasn’t this a marriage opportunity presenting itself?
Chu Baihan raised an eyebrow and then looked inquiringly at Zhu Xinyue.
"Xinyue, what do you think?"
"Xinyue, when it comes to matters of the heart, you should follow what you truly feel," Jian Yun added at that moment.
Her expression was sincere, as she truly had Zhu Xinyue’s best interests at heart.
She hoped Zhu Xinyue would find a fated partner, but she also did not want Zhu Xinyue to settle for just anyone in order to leave the Zhu Family.
Zhu Xinyue looked up, and her eyes quickly met the young man’s fervent gaze.
Her feelings were complex.
It seemed she no longer knew how to love someone.
But she... wanted to try.
Wanted to try for someone who had only her in their heart and eyes.
Taking a deep breath, Zhu Xinyue said firmly, "Princess, actually, before tonight, I had already told my father that Deputy Su is a decent man. If he were to propose again, I would surely accept."
"Miss Zhu, do you really mean it?"
Su Gaoxuan was so dazzled by Zhu Xinyue’s nod that he became flustered with excitement.
"Yes, I am willing. With your looks, Deputy Su, could it be that you are no longer interested?" Zhu Xinyue teased.
"No, no, I am willing," Su Gaoxuan nodded frantically.
Their enthusiastic emotions infected many of the onlookers.
Out of everyone present, Zhu Yinian was probably the least happy.
"Yueyue, are you sure you don’t want to think it over?" he asked Zhu Xinyue with a pleading tone.
Regrettably, Zhu Xinyue was unwilling to even glance at him again.
"Very well, as the Princess here, I shall grant the marriage of Xinyue to Deputy Su. Nan Xing, once we return to the capital city, you shall prepare a generous dowry for Miss Zhu on my behalf. Understood?"
"Yes, Princess, this servant understands."
Many looked at Su Gaoxuan with envious eyes.
It was clear to the perceptive that the Princess was protecting Miss Zhu.
Marrying Miss Zhu likely meant gaining the Princess’s support.
But Su Gaoxuan paid no mind to these thoughts; he stood aside, occasionally breaking into a silly grin.
He was finally about to marry the lady of his dreams.
"Ahem, Princess, while this is both an act of rewarding merit and bestowing marriage, it seems you might have forgotten about our existence," Lu Chen’an said with a forced smile.
