Chapter 362: Chapter 362: Injured

The war drums echoed, thick smoke rose, and the wind howled.

Under the pitch-black night, two armies met.

Dongli Honglang sat on his horse, his cold eyes like a pair of hooks, now staring intently at Yan Lian and Zhu Yinian.

"Didn’t you say your Princess was going to lead the charge? Where is she? Has the woman gotten scared and run away? With your courage, you’d better roll back home and let us flatten your homeland."

He laughed wildly, and the soldiers behind him began to guffaw.

On Tongzhou’s side, the Deputy General’s face reddened with frustration, "Too arrogant, I want to take his dog head."

"Everyone, calm down. Dongli Honglang has been battling since his teens, has killed countless number of people, and is exceedingly cunning. If you get angry, you’re playing right into his trap," the General instructed sternly.

Zhu Yinian rebuked in a low voice.

Hearing this, the fury of the few Deputy Generals around him finally eased somewhat.

"Dongli Honglang, what are you worth? When our Crown Princess was conquering far and wide, you were still fighting over a woman with your brother and couldn’t even win. I’m ashamed on your behalf," Yan Lian said mockingly, arms crossed.

The greatest stain on Dongli Honglang’s reputation was that his concubine had an affair with his brother.

When he discovered this, he had the concubine beaten to death, and his brother’s legs were broken.

In Dongli Country, everyone feared mentioning this incident, not daring to provoke his anger.

But Yan Lian now spoke of it without any restraint.

Dongli Honglang clenched his fists, his eyes brimming with murderous intent.

"Crown Princess? You’re Yan Country’s worthless Ninth Prince. Today, I will take your head," he declared.

"Kill them for your Crown Prince!"

The beating of the drums turned fierce instantly. Dongli Country screamed and then they charged with their weapons.

The two armies engaged in full battle.

The Dongli soldiers fought fiercely, but the Tongzhou army was not inferior.

Though they didn’t gain the upper hand, they also didn’t make it easy for their opponents.

"Crown Prince of Dongli, why are you alone? Didn’t you say Beihai Country was your ally?"

Scanning the enemy troops, Zhu Yinian, seeing only Dongli soldiers in armor without any from the Beihai Army, already had his suspicions. He then taunted Dongli Honglang with these words.

After hearing this, Dongli Honglang’s expression turned even darker.

"To deal with trash like you, I only need a portion of my troops; why would I need Beihai Country’s forces?" he snarled.

"Hmm, really? Could it be that you haven’t settled things with Beihai Country, and they don’t actually want to help you? Dongli Honglang, it could be that while you risk your soldiers here, Beihai Country might stab you in the back. In that case, it would truly be a case of the snipe and the clam fighting, with the fisherman benefiting."

Zhu Yinian’s words floated lightly to Dongli Honglang’s ears, carried by the easterly wind.

"I underestimated you, trying to drive a wedge between us," Dongli Honglang conceded as he drew his heavy broadsword and attacked Zhu Yinian.

"Your petty tricks, worthy to stir trouble between me and Beihai Country?"

He sneered, his strikes growing even more fierce.

Whether it was possible to sow discord... he knew in his heart.

Zhu Yinian, undisturbed, focused on defending against the attacks.

But Dongli Honglang seemed much tougher than he’d imagined...

With each strike, Zhu Yinian’s armor nearly split open.

He narrowed his eyes, his expression growing more grave.

It seemed, Dongli Honglang truly had the capability to secure his position as the East Palace Master.

"Is that all the capability you have? Are there so many weaklings in Nanduan Country?" Dongli Honglang taunted with supreme arrogance.

"Again!"

Zhu Yinian wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and continued to engage with the opponent.

After dozens of moves, Zhu Yinian had suffered numerous significant wounds.

Just as he was nearly overwhelmed, Yan Lian pulled him to his side, and Dongli Honglang’s broadsword missed its target.

"Dongli Honglang, you just said you wanted to take my head, didn’t you? Here I am. Come and take it."

Yan Lian provocatively said to Dongli Honglang.

"Knowing not whether to live or die."

Dongli Honglang disdainfully responded to Yan Lian.

"Let this Crown Prince see just what level Yan Country’s trash has reached."

He did not even deign to look directly at Yan Lian.

But in the next instant, when Yan Lian’s sword pierced through his shoulder, he ignited a towering rage.

"It seems I underestimated you," he gasped, roaring.

Peven Zhu Yinian could not help but give Yan Lian a few more glances.

The martial arts of the Ninth Prince hardly matched his usual persona.

"General Zhu, with me here, you won’t die. My martial arts were taught by the Eighth Prince."

Yan Lian’s tone couldn’t have been more haughty.

Zhu Yinian arched an eyebrow...

Did a certain Eighth Prince know how much his younger brother admired him?

This was a battlefield, and Zhu Yinian dared not think too much about it.

He immediately focused on battling the enemy forces.

The fighting continued for a full four hours until Dongli Honglang heard the sound of the bugle from his camp and promptly withdrew his troops.

Both sides suffered severe damage, and neither gained any advantage.

Dongli Honglang was injured, and Zhu Yinian also suffered a cut to his abdomen.

"Quick, open the city gates, the Ninth Prince and General Zhu have returned."

The gates of Tongzhou City opened, and those left behind hurried out to greet them.

"Prince, you are not injured, are you?"

Jian Yun ran up quickly, her expression filled with concern as she looked at him.

Yan Lian said with a foolish smile, "It’s nothing. I’m fine. The blood on me is someone else’s, don’t worry."

"Prince, my men have found out that it was their camp’s food supply that was burned, prompting them to remind Dongli Honglang with the bugle sound."

Ziyi hurried over to report the findings.

"Burned the food supplies? Who did that good deed?" Yan Lian’s eyes lit up; that wasn’t part of their plan, was it?

"It was me."

Jian Yun spoke softly at that moment.

Suddenly, all eyes around them were on Jian Yun.

Jian Yun tiptoed, then whispered in Yan Lian’s ear, "The High Princess left me quite a few good things before she left, perfect for tormenting the enemy."

"So it was the Eighth Prince’s wife who was prepared."

Yan Lian breathed a sigh of relief.

He said, how could Dongli Honglang willingly retreat even for a while?

You should know that guy on the battlefield is like a ferocious bear, enduring wounds but able to fight for hours.

"Even though the Eighth Prince’s wife was prepared, you must still take care of yourself. Are you injured?"

Yan Lian eagerly took Jian Yun’s hand, ready to check for any injuries.

"Don’t worry. I didn’t leave the city gates. Someone else did the lighting; I just followed the High Princess’s orders."

Jian Yun quickly reassured Yan Lian.

"Ahem..."

Zhu Yinian really did not want to interrupt the beautiful reunion of Yan Lian and Jian Yun, but he could hardly hold out any longer.

Hearing his cough, Yan Lian then realized something.

He quickly turned around, "I’m sorry, I forgot you were injured. Someone, quickly take General Zhu to be treated. Make sure the other wounded are also well cared for."
