My Pregnant Contract Wife Ran Away from Me! -
Chapter 70: Why are you drinking?
Chapter 70: Chapter 70: Why are you drinking?
Wen Ran uttered an "Mhm," "The person who answered your call last night, that was my husband."
He nodded, unable to resist probing further, "Really? Hearing his voice and tone, your husband doesn’t seem to have a good temper. Does he match the image of the boy you described liking earlier? Does he... treat you well?"
Does Fu Chenlie treat her well?!
That was a question she could answer without thinking.
Not well, not well at all.
And it was quite bad.
But how could she tell Qin Zeyu that?
Wen Ran curled the corner of her lips and smiled lightly, "It’s hard to speak in terms of ’good’ or ’bad.’ Life is just like that."
Qin Zeyu made a noncommittal noise.
He glanced at the alcohol placed beside his hand.
Though he had said he wouldn’t drink, he couldn’t help but pick it up now and bring it to his lips.
He had liked Wen Ran since high school.
However, in his freshman year, his parents had told him they would send him abroad for studies after he graduated high school.
To avoid breaking up because of moving abroad after they got together, he never confessed his feelings to Wen Ran. Sometimes, when he unintentionally saw her walking behind him, he would deliberately slow down, hoping to extend those beautiful moments for a little longer. Back then, he thought all these were coincidences.
It wasn’t until he contacted a high school dorm mate before returning to the country that he learned from him that many classmates knew Wen Ran liked him. Only he, like a fool, had thought all their interactions were mere coincidences.
He eagerly asked around for Wen Ran’s contact information, finally getting some news through Jiang Yan.
But still, he had missed the chance.
"Qin Zeyu, weren’t you going to drive? Why are you drinking?" Wen Ran’s words pulled him back to reality.
He looked at her and smiled, "Don’t worry, I won’t drive under the influence. I’ll just call a substitute driver later."
She nodded.
Fu Chenlie, always a sharp man, naturally noticed the undercurrents flowing between them.
He made a show of glancing at his wristwatch, standing up while speaking to Wen Ran, "It’s getting late, we’ve eaten, Driver Wen, take me back to the company."
Wen Ran pursed her lips, looking towards Qin Zeyu, "Then I’ll head back to the office first. Remember to call the substitute driver."
"Sure, sometime let’s get together with Jiang Yan."
"Mhm."
Fu Chenlie, running out of patience, urged her, "Aren’t you leaving yet?"
While speaking, he gave her a glare.
She looked towards Qin Zeyu, "Thank you for treating us to lunch. Next time we meet with Jiang Yan, it’s my turn to treat."
He smiled in response, "Sure, you can bring your husband next time."
Wen Ran was startled, then waved her hand at him, "Goodbye."
With that wave, Qin Zeyu saw the bracelet on her left wrist and couldn’t help but chuckle, "You’re still wearing that bracelet after all these years?"
"Mhm, got used to it, never took it off."
"Hurry up, don’t delay your boss."
Wen Ran nodded, and under the piercing gaze of Fu Chenlie, she lifted her foot.
They both headed toward the exit of the restaurant.
Qin Zeyu watched their retreating figures, leaning back in his chair, his face filled with loss.
He glanced at the wine bottle and poured himself another glass.
...
After leaving the restaurant, Fu Chenlie’s steps were extremely brisk.
Wen Ran had to jog to barely keep up with him.
Reaching where the car was parked, they both got in and buckled up, and the car drove off.
Along the way, the car’s cabin was terrifyingly silent.
This silence, suppressed and constrained without a sound, was like the calm before a storm.
Unknown storms, no one could predict how formidable they would be.
Wen Ran felt deeply uneasy...
