Chapter 38: Chapter 38 Wen Ran, did you do it on purpose?
Wen Ran watched as Fu Chenlie approached fiercely, her heartbeat inexplicably speeding up. She asked into the phone, "Have you eaten?"
"I have, and you?"
"I just finished cooking dinner and am about to eat."
Nearby, Grandma asked her, "Ranran, talk to Grandma. What kind of person is he?"
"He..." Wen Ran had just uttered one word when the charging Fu Chenlie snatched her phone and placed it beside himself, shouting, "Grandma."
Wen Ran’s eyes widened, disbelieving as she watched him.
From the other end of the phone, a stranger’s voice asked Fu Chenlie, "Are you Ranran’s husband?"
Upon hearing this, he immediately frowned.
It wasn’t his grandma.
The man glared at Wen Ran who, pointing to herself, mouthed the words, "It’s my grandma."
Fu Chenlie’s face instantly darkened.
His look was piercing enough to bore a hole through her.
Despite this, he responded gently, "Yes, I am her husband."
Hearing his words, Wen Ran was extremely surprised.
The shock on her face was akin to seeing a ghost in broad daylight!
"What’s your name, young man?" Wen Ran’s Granny began making small talk with Fu Chenlie.
He patiently replied, "Fu Chenlie."
On the other side, Wen Ran’s Grandma chuckled, "That sounds like a nice name. Young man, when you have time, have Ranran bring you home for a visit. You’re now husband and wife, and you can learn more about her upbringing. Our little village is quite nice, and we get many tourists every year."
"Sure, definitely."
After saying this, Fu Chenlie handed the phone back to Wen Ran.
Caught off guard, Wen Ran regained her senses, her heart frightened half to death. She quickly took the phone while saying, "Grandma, um... I’m about to eat, so I’ll leave it here."
"Alright, make sure to get along well with others, and don’t cause any trouble. Of course, if you are mistreated, you must tell Grandma. Even if I have to fight with these old bones, I will demand justice for my granddaughter."
She suddenly felt a surge of emotion in her heart and, holding back the urge to cry, she smiled and said, "I know, Grandma. Don’t worry, I won’t let myself be wronged."
After that, Wen Ran hung up the phone.
The moment she hung up, her touched emotions were gradually replaced by panic.
The young girl cast her eyes down, not daring to look at the man standing in front of her.
He wouldn’t kill her, right?!
That seemed unlikely; murder was illegal.
Wen Ran exhaled, contemplating...
Should she ask him for dinner since he hadn’t treated Grandma poorly like he did her?
Maybe that way, the misunderstanding about her grandma being his grandma would pass?
As she struggled to decide, Fu Chenlie’s angry voice resounded above her, "Wen Ran, did you do this on purpose?"
"Ah?"
Wen Ran raised her head, her face a picture of innocence as she met his gaze, "Do what on purpose?"
"Did you deliberately call your grandma, making me think you were going to complain to her?"
As he spoke, he moved a step closer, his tone growing more severe, "Should I praise you for being so cunning?"
Wen Ran, "..."
Even if it were true, she couldn’t admit it now.
Otherwise, she truly feared Fu Chenlie wouldn’t let her live through the day.
Wen Ran smiled at him.
Her sweet smile tinged with a trace of fear, "Husband, you misunderstood. I just missed my grandma, I saw you sitting in the living room ignoring me, so I thought I’d call her and catch up on family matters. There was no other intent."
His response was a disdainful retort, "Do you think I’d believe you?"
