Chapter 323: Sending an Invitation
Chapter 323: Chapter 323: Sending an Invitation
"...Since I am one of a kind, why should I be someone else’s second choice?"
After saying that, she smiled at him faintly before lowering her head to keep eating.
Fu Chenlie stared at Wen Ran and suddenly felt that there was something different about her today.
In the past, even though he had noticed her many qualities, he had never realized she possessed such resolve.
Perhaps most people would share Wen Ran’s aspirations—he could understand that.
But he wasn’t just anyone; he was Fu Chenlie, the most distinguished figure among Jiang City’s elite—not merely one of them, but *the* one.
For someone like him, standing atop the pyramid of power, to extend an invitation to share the rest of his life together, how could she so brazenly refuse?!
He couldn’t comprehend it.
Even more surprising was that Wen Ran could remain unmoved in the face of such allure.
The rest of the meal felt tasteless to him.
He had thought deeply before making the decision to spend his life with her, yet now that he’d been rejected, his heart was undeniably unsettled.
After dinner, they returned to the villa.
Aunt Wu had retired for the evening, leaving the living room with only the two of them.
Wen Ran noticed the white gift bag she’d brought back from the company lying on the sofa. She wondered if Fu Chenlie had bothered to look inside to see what was in it.
After all, it had come from "a very important woman," one who could even pat him on the shoulder.
With this thought, Wen Ran bitterly mused to herself—
His abundance of admirers was staggering; how could she possibly dare to share the rest of her life with him?
She was incredibly possessive and would never allow the man she loved to have any communication or connection with another woman that she wasn’t aware of.
Fu Chenlie walked over and saw her standing near the sofa, lost in thought. Following her line of sight, he noticed she was staring at the white gift bag. His lips curved slightly as he strode over, picked up the bag, and handed it to her: "Open it and take a look?"
Wen Ran snapped out of her daze, her eyes filled with confusion as she looked at him: "This is yours."
"I’m giving it to you."
"It was given to you by another woman, and now you’re giving it to me? Are you sure you’re not mistaken?"
In his usual arrogance, he retorted, "Do I look like I make mistakes?"
She hesitated for a moment before rejecting him: "I don’t want gifts others gave you. When someone gives you something, it represents their sentiment. Re-gifting it to me—what’s that supposed to mean? Disregarding their intentions?"
Upon hearing this, his brows furrowed slightly: "That’s not right."
Wen Ran looked at him, puzzled: "What’s not right?"
Instead of answering directly, he countered with another question: "How do you know the person who gave this to me is a woman?"
Wen Ran, "..."
Right—how would she know?
Her heart suddenly panicked. She pressed her lips together, lowered her gaze, and shifted her eyes: "I... I was just guessing."
Fu Chenlie let out a cold laugh.
He took a step forward, his long legs carrying him to the spot directly in front of her. Leisurely, he looked her over from top to bottom. Noticing the way her eyes darted around uneasily, he reached out and lifted her chin, forcing her to meet his gaze.
Wen Ran felt as though his eyes were like a whirlpool, capable of sucking her in at any moment—she instinctively wanted to look away.
But the man domineeringly guided her face back, his entire presence radiating an oppressive aura. He demanded, "Mrs. Fu, did you stand by the office’s floor-to-ceiling windows to look down that day?"
"I... I passed by on my way to the restroom and took a casual glance."
"Casual, huh? Your eyesight must be quite something then."
She replied offhandedly, "Yep, 1.5 vision."
He narrowed his eyes and watched her leisurely: "Keep going, keep making stuff up."
Wen Ran pressed her lips together and went silent.
Fu Chenlie let out a light chuckle: "I thought you were acting snarky with me after work two days ago for no reason. Turns out, you misunderstood my relationship with that woman, didn’t you?"
