Chapter 206: Chapter 206: Pleasing

Hearing this, Wen Ran instantly became alert.

She quickly scrolled through her sparse messages with Zhao Xiuyun.

Zhao Xiuyun’s confession, if Fu Chenlie saw it, he would get angry.

And the pretend lies she made up, if Fu Chenlie saw them, 99.999% he would take them to heart.

How could she clarify this?

Wen Ran was extremely vexed.

She didn’t even know why she had just promised to show Fu Chenlie her chat history; it was like she was digging her own grave.

Fu Chenlie’s patience with her was always limited, and he soon urged, "Didn’t you hear what I said?"

"I heard you, Boss, but I haven’t finished chatting yet, so how about you look at it later?"

"Look at it now, hand it over."

Wen Ran knew she couldn’t twist the arm of the stronger party and quickly compromised.

Holding her phone, she got up and walked towards him.

Standing in front of the man’s desk, she didn’t forget to give him a preemptive warning, "The messages I sent were just to make Zhao Xiuyun clear things up with his mom, they weren’t true, Boss, please don’t misunderstand."

After saying this, Wen Ran passed her phone over.

When Fu Chenlie took it, his scrutinizing gaze pinned her down as if he was about to settle accounts with her the next second.

Taking the phone, the man looked down and leisurely scrolled through the chat.

Initially, his expression was indifferent, but when he saw Zhao Xiuyun’s message asking Wen Ran to be his girlfriend, his dark eyes narrowed, and he coldly smirked at her, "Wen Ran, what magic do you possess that makes so many men like you?"

"I have no such talent..."

After a feeble reply, she muttered under her breath, "Don’t you know me well enough? Zhao Xiuyun might be at the age to get married, thinking of finding someone around his age, and then he saw me fit the criteria, so he said those things. Boss, you mustn’t take it seriously."

"Really?"

She nodded obediently, "Yes."

He huffed disdainfully and quickly pressed on, "So this person you claimed to have liked for many years, what’s that about?"

Wen Ran didn’t even think before answering, "That was a lie to deceive Zhao Xiuyun; I wanted him to clear things up with his mom about our relationship."

Fu Chenlie offered no comment.

However, he quickly threw out a third question, "The person you like found out you were pretending to be Zhao Xiuyun’s girlfriend and got extremely angry, was that person me?"

The man’s tone was steady as he spoke, even the words "extremely" were uttered without a ripple.

Wen Ran knew he would take it personally.

Snapping back to reality, she shook her head in denial, "It wasn’t you, it was a lie."

"Do you enjoy lying that much?"

She bit her lip, her clear apricot eyes filled with a tinge of fragmented grievance, "Isn’t it all because I listened to you? I lied because I wanted to make it clear to Zhao Xiuyun, so I wouldn’t accompany his mom shopping. Why are you blaming me now?"

Whatever word had pleased Fu Chenlie, his face softened a little.

Wen Ran let out a sigh of relief.

But that relief was short-lived.

Because she saw his slender fingers operate on her phone screen, and finally, the sound of a voice call being dialed broke the silence of the air.

Wen Ran’s eyes widened in shock, "What are you doing?"

As she finished, she walked around the desk to snatch her phone back.

Fu Chenlie easily dodged it.

Not only that, he also grabbed her reaching wrist, his indifferent eyes landing on her face, his voice carrying a hint of seduction as he spoke, "Mrs. Fu, I’m just helping you solve a problem, there’s no need to be agitated, hmm?"
