Chapter 991: 336. I’ve done a lot of grave digging in the game, but this is honestly the first time I’ve seen grave-plundering here! - [12/15]_3
The spectral war hounds stood half as tall as a person, and their ready-to-pounce posture, along with the ferocity of their spiritual fangs, sent chills down the spines of the two young players.
"Five tomb guardian spirits! They’re all marked as ’Protector Spirits,’ special Black Iron elites! Damn, don’t move! They’re watching us."
Three Five Battles issued a deep warning, signaling Little Hand and Yan Song behind him not to run, lest they provoke a chase from the war hounds in such a cramped space, which would spell their doom.
"Fall back! We are envoys of the current Count of Xikemeier!"
As the young players faced off, Doris quickly stepped forward, holding Count Shuren’s family emblem and sternly rebuked the fierce war hounds in front of her.
The aura emanating from the emblem confused the already combat-ready spectral war hounds.
The tallest and most imposing war hound, as if still alive, stepped forward to sniff, and after confirming that the emblem in Doris’s hand came from the bloodline of the Xikemeier family, it let out a hollow and deep howl, instructing the war hounds to clear a path.
"Follow me, and don’t panic."
Doris spoke over her shoulder.
With a stride, she entered the tomb pathway, with Ya Ya close behind, and the other players followed suit. Under the "watchful eyes" of the spectral dogs, they finally stepped into the burial chamber of the First Generation Count of Xike.
The chamber was surprisingly modest.
In the very center, there was a stone sarcophagus entwined with black vines, along with some funerary objects that the tomb’s owner had used in life. On both sides of the tomb were placed two peculiar "scarecrows."
These were made of special wood and vines, woven into the likeness of humanoid creatures with deer antlers.
"Those are ritual objects for summoning the Deer-headed Spirit."
Doris explained in a low voice:
"If a clueless tomb robber takes anything from here at random, it would trigger the summoning ritual, and with the appearance of two Deer-headed Spirits combined with the five spectral war hounds, it would be enough to bury any grave-robbing party.
I’ve heard these kind of creatures can also bind souls; in other words, if you die by their hands, you won’t even have the chance to return your soul to Hades."
"Look! There are treasures over there!"
With the sharpest eyes, Old Qu surveyed the surroundings and ultimately rested his gaze on the sarcophagus, which held the weapons and armor used by the First Generation Earl.
The beast-headed armor was of a quality that couldn’t be easily discerned, but the barbarian-styled double-edged battle axe, despite spending over three hundred years in the tomb, still glinted with a sharp and cold light under the torches.
It was obviously no ordinary item.
The members of the Big Bird Spinning Team looked at each other.
All were slightly tempted, given that players seldom had the chance to enter such a forbidden place and find such fine goods, it felt a pity not to take something with them.
"If you want to die, don’t drag me into it!"
Ya Ya sensed his companions’ desire and immediately advised:
"We’re here for a plot quest, don’t mess it up. If you really want it, then wait until after this is over and come back with your group to loot once more. You already know the way, but I bet just touching that battle axe will trigger the tomb’s mechanisms.
Judging by the strength of these measures, I reckon you’d need at least ten Black Iron Warriors to even stand a chance in this scenario’s combat mission.
And if you take that axe, you’ll surely become enemies with the Xikemeier Family, but Count Shuren is an important NPC for the engineering profession, along with the reputation of the Winged Cavalry faction.
Unless that’s truly a legendary weapon, it’s not worth the loss!"
"That makes sense."
Old Qu withdrew his gaze in disappointment.
But soon after, Little Hand leaned in and quietly said something to him, causing the other members of the Big Bird Spinning Team to look astonished, but they quickly seemed to come to an agreement.
Ya Ya didn’t know what decision they had made, but he could guess that these guys probably didn’t want to give up on the potential profits.
He didn’t try to dissuade them further.
After all, it was just a game; he could only observe his own morals, not restrict how other players enjoyed the game.
He and Doris bowed in front of the First Generation Earl’s stone sarcophagus before starting to search for the required "quest item," but the Holy Grail of Woodland wasn’t hidden very deeply.
It was placed on a table right in front of the stone sarcophagus, an ordinary-looking cup made from some special kind of wood. When Frostfang’s Claw picked it up, he casually activated the Item Identification, but the information he obtained made his eyes light up:
Name: Avalon’s Holy Grail of Woodland
Quality: Strange Object·Divine Spirit’s Offering
Effects:
1. Those holding the Holy Grail who possess highlander bloodline may converse with the Spirit of the Mountain Woods and seek blessings.
2. Upon fulfilling certain conditions, drinking water from this Holy Grail can complete the special profession change to "Grail Knight".
Warning!
This profession is part of the "Special: Oathkeeper Sequence." Violating the professional oath will result in dreadful punishments.
Creator: Mother of Forest Avalon·Star Realm Forging
Item Description:
[Legends of the Holy Grail exist throughout the Continent, and there’s a common thread within these diverse tales: only those heroes who pass the test may drink from the Holy Grail’s waters and receive the blessing of strength.
The one you hold is just one of many Grails.
It may not suit the path you’ve chosen, but don’t lose heart. As long as you continue forward, you will eventually find the Grail meant for you on the path to legend.]
"We’ve got it, let’s get out of here."
Ya Ya turned to his player companions and said, only to hear the members of Big Bird Team quietly discussing an outrageous idea:
"So, to sum up, where do we find a bunch of fearless and dedicated tomb robbers? They take the fall, and we reap the benefits. If we play this right, we’re not just talking about weapons and loot; we could seriously boost our reputation with Count Shuren.
Hey, why not spread the map of this tomb? There will always be fools not afraid to die for a shot at riches; that way, the few of us could have a clear lead, right?
Tsk, tsk, the plan’s perfect!"
