Chapter 884: 301. I just casually assigned a task, and you actually managed to get it done?

The joyful "loot sharing party," uh, no! After the Reward Settlement Conference ended, the jovial players quickly returned to their gaming rhythm.

However, the students had already logged off by then, ecstatic about Brother Fu’s invitation to a barbecue tonight.

Because they heard the venue was quite luxurious and the car was already waiting at the school entrance, they needed some time to get ready. Although they weren’t about to wear suits to a barbecue, they still couldn’t embarrass themselves.

Before Sister Pomegranate logged off to pick out her outfit and do her makeup, she lent her treasured Cold Night Blade to the Broken Sword Master and her little brother, Hundred Forging Big Horse, for a rental fee of 10 Gold Coins for "observation."

As smiths, they were very interested in the supernatural weapons appearing in the game.

Of course, given their current level of unfamiliarity with the minerals within Transylvania, even the most diligent observation of this divine weapon from the far-off Ancient Country of Eastern Calum wouldn’t reveal any core secrets.

To put it simply, their smithing skills were not up to par, and they had no way to decipher the exact methods used to forge this item and reverse-engineer the manufacturing diagram. To truly learn the smithing techniques of the Far East, they’d have to start with the two Eastern warblades of the Heartless Demon Huntress, Natalie.

But this didn’t prevent these two fellows, who aspired to become "Weapon Forgemaster Masters," from gleaning some "production inspiration" from the warblade.

"This is the real deal, isn’t it? A true ’fantasy series weapon’?"

In the camp’s smithy, the two "otherworldly smiths" placed the Cold Night Blade on the forging table, while the Broken Sword Master used tools to measure various parameters, and Hundred Forging Big Horse was sketching and taking notes.

The two planned to record everything they could find about the blade before returning it to Sister Pomegranate.

"The material is definitely some kind of alloy and must be sensitive to Spiritual Energy; otherwise, there’s no explaining the shadowy trail it casts when swung. Plus, it’s like a special ’container,’ storing some kind of special power that we have yet to understand," said the Broken Sword Master as he ran his fingers along the blade.

That peculiar chill on his fingertips, as though freezing his skin, felt like touching ice, led him to turn to his brother and say,

"We need to find out the reason this thing can store energy. Maybe we can make our own first Psychic Weapon by imitating it."

"I’m sure it has something to do with this thing!"

Hundred Forging Big Horse pointed at the ebony stone carved into the shape of a strange beast’s head, set into the hilt. It wasn’t purely black, but more like a transparent material with ’ink’ injected inside.

The younger smith touched the gemstone,

feeling an even colder aura than that of the blade, and said with conviction,

"This looks a lot like the ebony stone the Graveblade Guardsmen use for their profession badges, but obviously of a much higher quality. Ebony stone has a peculiar use of absorbing the essence of the Dead, doesn’t it? Maybe this unique object accumulates and absorbs power by the user continuously killing enemies, analogous to players leveling up by hunting monsters. This allows the sword to grow stronger through battle.

What the hell kind of world is this, where even swords can level up by slaying monsters?"

"Makes sense to me!"

The Broken Sword Master nodded.

He picked up a pair of Alchemy glasses from the side and donned them. After activating them, he scrutinized every detail of the blade as if he were using a magnifying glass.

Soon, he found a series of inconspicuous but likely significant engravings on the hilt, arranged to form inscriptions that appeared decorative, which seemed odd given the overall simple and majestic design of the weapon.

The brothers sensed a clue and quickly took rubbings of these inscriptions, and right after finishing this process, their Calculating Pearl’s character interface popped up a notification:

[Contact with high-level Smithing/Alchemy/Enchantment inscriptions, effects currently unknown, please perform trials to confirm inscription effects.]

"Hey, this is it!"

The two smiths smiled at each other.

They felt as if they were onto something and proceeded to carefully remove the decorative leather from the sword’s crossguard and discovered more hidden details.

When they placed the famed blade under sunlight, they were also able to spot a few hidden inscriptions through the blade’s inherent "shadow effect," along with some raised patterns, which likely amounted to "advanced" content that was beyond the understanding of otherworldly smiths unfamiliar with the mysteries of Spiritual Energy on this continent.

They spent half the day taking rubbings of all the inscriptions they could find, ending up with a total of seven unknown-effect inscriptions, unable to discern which one was the true secret technique that could significantly enhance a weapon. Out of options, they opted for the "foolish method."

"Based on the arrangement and position of these things on the famous blade, let’s copy them as well as we can onto the weapons we’re going to make.

We know nothing about the smithing system of this world and can’t be researchers or pioneers, but we can at least be imitators," said the Broken Sword Master through gritted teeth to his brother.

"Go to the administration and ask the Quartermaster for some ebony stones. We’ll start experimenting right now."
