Chapter 802: 273. A development team that listens to advice is a good civilization, but can the Dog Planner please go away?_3
"Because they’ve exceeded the ’time limit.’"
Murphy shrugged and said in a subtle tone,
"Once the time limit is passed, they must face a little punishment. Put some pressure on them, give them more motivation... Remember that bullshit I told you about life being like a game? Since it’s a game, there must be rewards and penalties, right?
"Light it up!"
"Whoosh"
Miss Phemis made a motion as if she was throwing something with great force in midair.
The next instant, a dark flame transformed into an arrow, soaring through the layers of Spiritual Energy mist, and landed precisely on the top of a watchtower at the edge of the camp’s core area.
A dazzling firelight flared up in the darkness, scattering the thick Star Realm shadows significantly.
Murphy also bowed his head to grasp the Core Bead and began editing a new message, while the roaring backup from Necessary Evil shielded him from the fierce Jackal Barbarians surrounding him.
Seconds later, a notification popped up on all players’ character interfaces:
[Due to the Attackers’ failure to destroy all camp watchtowers before the Jackal People sentinels took action, the first warning flame has been ignited. Lost in the shadows of the Star Realm, the Jackal warlord Kenbote Bitebone has reconfirmed his position under the guidance of the warning flames.
He and his bodyguard barbarians have already broken through the first line of blockade by Countess Andma!
The good news is, Baron of Hunting Kudell has already blocked him, and Lord Morphy is also prepared for interception at the outermost perimeter.
The bad news is, you must pick up the pace.
Warning!
If Kenbote Bitebone breaks through all three blockades, he will successfully escape the camp! Such an event will lead to certain main storyline changes in the Transylvania region.
Warning!
Due to Attackers’ tactical errors resulting in the breach of Countess Andma’s defense line, Miss Phemis is in an exceptionally bad mood, and thus, she won’t distribute the victory rewards she had prepared to the testers involved in the battle after the war.
Instance extra reward drop change: 3→2.]
"Damn it!"
This notification immediately made the little players fighting the Elite Jackals exclaim in surprise and nearly caused Stick Brother in the sky to lose control and crash to the ground.
He stared intently at his Calculating Pearl.
The good news was, he had guessed right; Dog Planner had indeed set up a trap.
The bad news was, he had guessed right; Dog Planner had truly become inhumane.
In that instant Stick Brother stopped commanding and began to flap his wings, rising to a height from which he could overlook the entire camp before spotting a warning flame ignited on a Jackal sentinel tower to the south, which was exactly the area Meow Brother’s Big Bird Spinning Team was supposed to clear.
"Fuck! Meow! What the hell are you guys doing? Why is that watchtower lit up? Damn, that was your task! You slapped your chest and told me there would definitely be no problems.
For fuck’s sake!
Messing up like this, you’re headed for a military tribunal, just so you know."
Stick Brother was furious in that moment.
His shouting also irked Meow Brother in the south, who was attempting to set the warehouse ablaże, and he yelled back:
"Who knew there’d be another watchtower there, we’ve already destroyed three! Shit, my bad, I’ll take one less share of the loot. Enough with the nonsense, now push forward! We’ll torch this warehouse and then come to help."
Stick Brother soon calmed down.
Things had come to this point; striving for perfection was no longer realistic, but the turn of events wasn’t necessarily bad.
With one sweeping look, he noticed that the little players were much more focused than before, almost needing no further commands from him as the Vampire Players, carrying Molotov cocktails and bombs, made bombing runs like low-flying planes over those lured Elite Jackal Men who had lost their wits.
The Molotov cocktails they dropped and the explosions they caused ignited a great fire, the clustered creatures howling in the blaze, while the shield holders and gunners in the front were even less merciful with their thrusts.
"Quick, quick, quick! Lure more monsters this time."
Stick Brother shouted.
He too grabbed a Hunting gun and joined the monster-luring force, they had already lost one Treasure Chest! They couldn’t afford to lose the remaining two.
The outcome at this point had less to do with drops, and was purely about pride!
Damn, when the NPC on your side has weakened the enemy to such a degree, it would be embarrassing not to win, wow.
And Meow Brother’s face stank like a dead horse.
But he had nothing to say.
Indeed, it was the segment he was responsible for that malfunctioned, directly causing all players to lose a precious Treasure Chest.
"Shit!"
Meow Brother furiously rubbed his face, cursing:
"I knew this Dog Planner was up to something, and now we’ve seriously lost face. When we go back, who knows how we’re going to be mocked on the forums."
"I’m just saying, brother, when you get beaten, you have to stand tall."
Little Hand, who was throwing torches into the warehouse, counseled:
"It’s all part of conquering an instance, isn’t it? How could there be no mistakes? Stay calm, stay calm, look, our main task has also been successfully completed, hasn’t it?"
Before them, the region holding all the remaining supplies of the Jackal Gangs was fully ablaze, the flames consuming everything and casting the flickering firelight on other comrades fighting beside them against the incoming Elite Jackal Men trying to extinguish the fire.
But Meow Brother just couldn’t feel happy...
His male dignity as a grown-up in society felt trampled by that damn mistake. If it continued like this, his dream of becoming a legendary player would drift farther from him, damn it!
A rage burned in his heart, making Meow Brother’s gaze turn fierce.
"In the name of my god, Avalon! I bestow upon thee filthy beings the purifying sanction! Kill!"
He roared atop his steed, tossing the Bloodwood Seed out and releasing the call of the oaken knight. As the seed took root upon landing, the fearsome Bloodthirsty Treant quickly appeared beside him, and with Meow Brother’s charge, they plunged into the midst of the Jackal Barbarians.
Another war sacrifice had begun.
Tonight, in the name of Avalon, he would offer a blood sacrifice to the blood gods and revel in slaughter, thereby stepping onto the path of the Red Knight meant for him!
