Chapter 722: 247. Colando’s Malice_1

"Those bastards are utterly ruthless, wiping out an unfortunate clan as soon as they escape."

Standing on the ruins of the city wall in the darkness of Crimson Castle, Murphy retracted his gaze. His high-altitude perspective from Reveno kept him abreast of Hog’s gang’s movements at all times.

He saw how the "Pangolin" he had personally chosen ferociously stormed into the abandoned village, and how mercilessly it executed the rebel leaders and Barbarian Soldiers who defied it. Then it distributed all the female Wolf People in the clan to its tribesmen.

Murphy, neither a biologist nor interested in watching "Wolf People pornography", stopped watching to spare his eyes from any further strain.

"This is their way of survival, Master."

Maxim, who had just returned from the Dark Baron’s territory, stood behind Murphy and said quietly:

"They live like bandits, relying on plunder for everything. Even though everyone on this land loathes the Wolf People, many people know that the most plundered by them are actually their own kind.

However, even Wolf People have their merits.

After each raid, they only kill resistant males, but females and cubs are unharmed. Even offspring that are not their own are raised and then driven out of the tribe to fend for themselves.

In this sense, these Barbarians do have a bit of humanity."

"Maybe that’s why the various races of the Dark Mountain Range are so numerous, yet only the Wolf People can spark the Black Disaster that shakes the continent. This is the source of their strength, the innate desire to protect females and cubs.

Protecting females enables the birth of more children, and protecting children ensures the survival of their bloodline. These two points are enough to guarantee that the Wolf People are always expanding."

Murphy said quietly:

"Well, this is far better than some heartless human civilizations. Let’s not talk about that, Hog is a cunning bastard, it sure knows how to protect itself. The next time we contact it, it will probably be the decisive moment."

"But aren’t you afraid that it might betray us?"

Maxim said with some doubt:

"Wolf People can’t be trusted, no loyalty whatsoever. Although I agree that Hog is kind of strange and not a typical Wolf Person, it might be ensnared by its own lowly nature."

"What would we lose then?"

Murphy retorted:

"Our investment in Hog to date consists of only a few shabby armors and cold weapons. It would, of course, be desirable if it maintains loyalty, but even if it defect, at most it would lead the Wolf People through the underground tunnel to attack Crimson Castle.

But don’t forget what’s on the third floor of the sewers.

If King Kenbort is willing to help out, help us once and for all solve the headache of the Ghoul infestation in the sewers, I might even award him a ’Good Citizen’ medal as Governor of Transylvania.

Most importantly, Mark!

When I said I wanted to give all creatures of this land an equal life, I wasn’t joking or painting a pie in the sky for idealistic scholars like Professor Malcolm.

I really intend to do so.

Hog is a trial run.

If it and its tribesmen are willing to abandon their savage nature and become a part of this land, I really would give them the Smugglers’ Forest as territory, and turn it into a ’Wolf People Reservation’."

"I can’t understand, Sir."

Maxim always spoke frankly in front of Murphy, he said:

"I’m not saying equality is bad, but I always feel that your ideal would be hard for others to accept. I was once a human, I know that there are different classes among humans. Even giving them equal dignity won’t change anything.

Rich people will always oppress the poor, powerful people will always treat the rich as slaves, and those with strength can freely take from the first three.

That’s the tradition of the continent, not something that can be changed with a single edict."

"It’s not just about ideals, Mark."

Murphy was always willing to explain his ideas to those close to him and persuade them to join him, rather than issuing commands. He didn’t consider such explanation and teaching to be a waste of time.

He said:

"Actually, I proposed this slogan partly out of selfish intentions.

Just think about it, if in the future Transylvania could have the Wolf People as vanguards, have Gnolls mining for us, have the wisdom of humans overseeing the development of this land, have the technology of Dwarfs and Half-body Men supporting our logistics, and have the skilled elves crafting various tools.

In the daytime, we have the Sun-blessed Sanghai People protecting the land, and at night we have powerful Vampires patrolling in all directions.

Whenever our warriors charge ahead, there are healers from the Avalon Church at the back, brave and sharp Winter Martial Monks are our eyes and claws, and Mother Gaia’s guards are our Unbroken Wall.

Can you imagine the power that such a nation could harness?

Each race has its own advantages and value. When they can be utilized by you, it’s not just a case of 1+1 equals 2.

No one has ever tried to gather all the people under a single banner. It’s certainly challenging, but we should give it a shot. After all, the Blood Vulture Clan is currently destitute, so it wouldn’t cost us extra to give it a shot.

And most importantly..."
